Is there a legitimate reason for this to exist? Can the video game industry just do without them from spoiling games, surprises, and anything in general? Not like a M rating matters to most parents who buy their kids a game, all it does is delay games for the consumers and cost companies money.
Honestly, I think the eC, E10+, and AO ratings need to be abolished.
Very few games use eC, and even then, they would qualify for E because they have no offensive content whatsoever.
E10+ games need to be reevaluated and re-rated to E or T, whichever it suits the closest.
AO should be abolished, because
1. No major developer is going to make an AO-rated game
2. The few "adult" games that do exist aren't going to bother with the ESRB anyway.

They exists so moral fags parents cannot bitch about "this is not for kids" as the rating make them the dumbasses for buying the game in first place.
To help stop the parents who actually do give a shit from buying anime tiddies for their kid.
To stop kids from buying anime tiddies for themselves
>CEET MARP
What did they mean by this?
PEGI>ESRB
Does Japan even have a rating system?

>Very few games use eC, and even then, they would qualify for E because they have no offensive content whatsoever.
Educative games still need something to tell themselves apart
>E10+ games need to be reevaluated and re-rated to E or T, whichever it suits the closest.
Supposedly Nintendo pushed for this to not lose a part of the market with their not-so-edgy-games like StarFox 64 on the DS
>AO should be abolished, because
>1. No major developer is going to make an AO-rated game
>2. The few "adult" games that do exist aren't going to bother with the ESRB anyway.
I rmemeber an online casino prodly showing their AO rating to showcase how law abiding they were.
The CEO of the ESRB has commented that the AO is need for when the time comes and explicit games become more common.
Man. I'm actually a father and I use these before buying games for my little retard. Hell, some games I just don't want him playing, and without these ratings it can be hard to tell sometimes. The fucker is only 6.
>>318220801
ESRB's just retarded for anything past E
Hatred
>Extreme violence, blood, gore
>AO
eden*>lolis>holding hands
>AO
why is the content in the second game even allowed
it should be banned everywhere
>>318221898
PEGI has a better system, but poor application.
I actually like the ratings divided by age groups, as well as color-coding them. It makes it very easy to understand.
The real problem, however, is that some games are rated too high for what they are. A lot of games that should get the 16 rating end up getting 18 instead.
>>318222001
>>318222001
Nigga do you even CERO?
>>318222001
CERO.
>>318222004
>Educative games still need something to tell themselves apart
They often have many telltale signs, like "Elmo's ABC Learning Adventures," or "Sponsored by the Edutainment Educational Entertainment Council."
Also, many parents who buy educational games for their children don't usually buy console games. They usually buy proprietary systems like LeapFrog or some shit, which often bypass the ESRB system entirely.
>The CEO of the ESRB has commented that the AO is need for when the time comes and explicit games become more common.
>when the time comes
Once again, not likely. If a major dev made an adult-oriented game, namely pornographic content, it would be bad PR. And the SJWs are trying to stifle even the slightest instance of female sexuality, and so far they've met with some small victories. If thongs get replaced with shorts, then there's very little chance an AO-rated game will be commercially sold.
>>318222868
I believe all the consoles won't allow AO games, so every AO game ever has been only for PC (and they're usually eroge/porn games where the content causing the game to have the AO rating is important and can't be stripped out to obtain a M rating).
>>318222868
So are you telling me Leap frog can have hardcore furry shit and my kids are playing it?
>>318223381
Every pornographic game I've seen are either unrated, or have this weird "Adults Only" rating from some completely different board authority.
>>318223559
No, I'm saying that LeapFrog doesn't go through the same level of quality control as actual video games do, which is an accurate reflection of their content.
>>318222004
>The CEO of the ESRB has commented that the AO is need for when the time comes and explicit games become more common.
This is pretty hilarious considering the existence of the AO rating in the first place makes it easy for those games to be stamped out due to rating restrictions on consoles and retailers
>>318222178
Why is it in English for the first five, and then the last one is in ching chong?
>>318223932
That's their equivalent of RP - Rating Pending.

Doesn't stop those parents that buys their kids Halo and COD though.
To avoid lawsuits, I figure.
would the esrb even rate an explicit loli fucking game
>>318226494
yes
it's called eden* PLUS+MOSAIC
I don't see why the AO rating is such a big deal. It just sucks that an AO rated game would be sales suicide. Movies don't have this problem, I don't think. If a super violent or super sexy movie comes out, they can release it straight to video unrated, but you can't really do that with games. Not if you want to make money, anyway.
does the USA use the same rating system for games, movies, and tv shows?
>>318222124
Pretty much any game with extreme violence and gore gets PEGI 18 which seems retarded but I agree.
>>318222178
>CERO
>Doesn't allow nipples in any JP release game
>Extreme violence gets Z rating which is 18+
CERO is so pathetic.

Nope. Different one for each medium.
>>318224772

How retarded is Australia's rating board?
>>318226710
Didn't all the console companies ban AO games from being on their platform?
>>318226710
>If a super violent or super sexy movie comes out, they can release it straight to video unrated, but you can't really do that with games.
Actually, you can do that with games, and it happens more often than you think.
The only problem is that it has a niche audience and profits are minimal.
>Who the fuck would pay money for a shitty porno game?
The same people who pay money for porn.
Pornographic games go hand in hand with pornographic films. Most people enjoy it for free, and only suckers actually pay for that shit.
>>318227175
Yes. Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft won't allow AO rated games on their consoles. Not only that, but most retailers won't even stock them. I know it's places like Gamestop, Wal-Mart, and Target. That's like 80% of physical sales.
>>318220801
>CEETMARP
what does it mean, /v/?
>>318227204

That's what I meant. Things like Senran Kagura and Neptunia don't make the same numbers that Activision and Ubisoft's yearlies do, but us weebs are a dedicated bunch.
>CEET MARP
>>318226751
>Extreme violence gets Z rating which is 18+
Nothing wrong with this, games with CERO Z can actually be published.
>>318220801
>Is there a legitimate reason for this to exist?
For retard parents to have minimal thought involved in letting other people raise their children for them.
>>318227962
But don't they only put Z rated games under the counter or something? They cannot have Z rated titles on display?
>>318228072
That is true, but I don't know if that's a choice of the store or enforced.
You can buy Chaos;Head on vita with the same violence of the PC version, though you gotta ask for it.
>>318227204
>>If a super violent or super sexy movie comes out, they can release it straight to video unrated, but you can't really do that with games.

It only happens on PC though, I don't have a single unrated console game.
