Do you use anti-aliasing in games? What kind? I personally always keep it completely off unless I can do real AA with constant 120 FPS.
>FXAA
Adds an off-putting vaseline filter without really solving major aliasing.
>SMAA
Same, but better.
>TXAA
Blurs the shit out of everything, but very effective at removing aliasing.
>MFAA
Needs a brand new NVIDIA card.
>MSAA
Kills frame rate.

What happened to CSAA anyway?
>>
i always have it off. I don't sit close to the monitor and 1080p is sufficient for me to minimize jaggities
>>
I dont care what anyone says txaa is the best anti aliasing so far. Makes things look more realistic imo.
>>
Why don't they make games without aliasing in the first place?
>>
>>318216563
Gotta sell GPUs somehow.
>>
>>318216563
Games are always going to have aliasing due to the way pixels work. Thats what anti aliasing is for.
>>
>>318216880
Why not make the pixels round then?
>>
Does MFAA really do anything? Supposedly it doesn't work without first enabling MSAA and then it looks indistinguishable from MSAA. Supposedly because the benefits can only be seen in motion or some horse shit. It definitely doesn't give 8x quality at 4x performance like they claim anyway.
>>
>>318217289
It's closer to 50% more effective than MSAA, so it's worth it if the game supports it.
>>
>>318215840
I generally use OGSSAA Just because I can and my system can handle it.
>>
>>318217046
They somewhat did with old CRT's. Not round as in circles, but it still hides some aliasing.
>>
>>318216880
That's only at low pixel density

At 4k and say 27 inches, the need for AA diminishes greatly.

Once we have 8k monitors AA will not be needed anymore.

TXAA

>>318215840

I downsample when I can afford to, else I use SMAA and or TXAA.

There is just no real way to reconstruct missing data without temporal artifacts from sampling. Sub pixel artifacts has and will always be a problem with rasterization, especially as graphics get more complex. The only real way is to throw more resolution at the problem.

i downsample with gedosato.
never really have any kind of AA on.

How do you get constant 60fps on that shit
I have a fucking Phenom II X4 955 at 3.8GHz and a 960, and I get drops to 30fps during fights. Not even at 1080p.
>>
>>318215840
I like sharper images, so I generally have it off. I've never played a game where the jaggies are so off-putting that I can't stand looking at the game.

What I don't understand is why developers can't come up with some sort of selective anti-aliasing. I'd like to have it off, but on for certain things, like chainlink fences, and surfaces with lots of close lines. That way I could maintain some graphic fidelity without tanking my performance.

its actually your graphicscard.
set it to performance and tax it more.

i had the same thing happen with my old 760 gtx. where dota would run incredibly shit if the graphicscard wasnt taxed enough.

GHz isnt everything about cpus.
the phenom II is a creat cpu bit really bad with some instruction sets.
>>
>>318223747
what do you mean "set it to performance and tax it more"?
you mean in the windows power saving options? Nvidia inspector?
>>
>>318223836
nvidia cards have this really funny thing since the 6XX series.
if they are not taxed enough they go into power saving mode and drastically underperform.
running gedosato like >>318222790
is actually a great way to tax your graphicscard more.
it will literally perform better at 4k or more than it will with default settings if you dont go into the nvidia control panel and set dota 2 to performance instead of adaptive or power saving.
additionally alt tab a few times douring a dota game to see how perfomance increases.

>MFAA
Also it's pretty much useless because it only works for games that have MFAA going by default because MFAA adds on top of that
>MSAA
Poor fag get gud etc

>>318217515
what if you squint your eyes really hard
>>
I usually downsample from 1440p.

r9 290x can pull 60fps at 1440p in most games I play at, and I only have a 1080p monitor.

Downsampling from 4k is the best there is, if your card can handle the torture.
