At least 2 managed to have both good gameplay, memorable characters, and a story (while flawed) that was at least personal to Max and relatable the audience.
3 only manages the gameplay part. I can't remember a single character from 3 other than Max himself. The story was so hollow, boring, and had nothing to do with Max. He was just a body guard who got caught up in some unrelated nonsense. Fuck Rockstar, Remedy did it better.

The only major upgrade over the first game was the graphics, and even then the level design wasn't as good.
3 mostly just suffered from the time gap, but was a fitting end to the series.

after playing a lot of 3 i went back to 2 and jesus christ you can say what you want about 3 but the voice direction in 1/2 is so, so, so, so incredibly shittier it's not even funny

your enjoyment of 3 will be tied to how attached you are to rainy new york and 1/2's general ambient weirdness. if those are essential to you then you might be disappointed; if not then it has possibly the best third-person shooting. a GOAT soundtrack, and who knows you might even have fun

I love 1 and 2, I adore 2 but 3 is just better, the gore the physics the attention to detail holy fucking shit it is so great, the gunplay is literally god tier.
Storywise it's 6/10 but for fucks sake that airport level with the music made me lost my shit.
Multi was broken but had it's moments.
Only thing that triggered my autism is no blood splatters on walls.

Blood is everywhere in MP3, it even spill from ennemies wounds (thats fucking awesome)
It's on the ground everywhere but never on the walls surprinzingly, I mean ther's a little but when you shoot a guy at point blank range with a shotgun I expect more blood if he's close to a wall
I liked the story/tone/ambience of 1 the most, 3 the least. In terms of gameplay, completely the opposite, 3 is light years ahead of the other two, while 2 is significantly better than 1.
I don't think this is a very controversial view though.
