They admitted that the heavy fan outcry was what got them to start the localization process. Even specifically mentioning a facebook petition.

if you're referring to Dragon Quest XI, it seems to have a much better system than FFXII. Its still turn based battles, just on the field. Basically, they found a way to have instant transitions to battles like in Chrono Trigger.

Why wouldn't the games sell well? I mean, they won't sell 10 million copies like SquareEnix expects. But there's a good chance with all the negative hype against SquareEnix for ignoring the games and the growing DQ fanbase that they could easily surpass a million copies. Even more if they get actual advertising.
The problem is moreso about what SquareEnix thinks is successful. This is the same company who thought a port of Chrono Trigger to DS sold poorly when it was only 250k less than a full FFIV remake.
Is Square or Nintendo publishing these games in NA? Kinda worried about small print run if it's Nintendo.

The PS4 version is being made because Yuji Horii said 4 years ago he wants DQXI to be on consoles. He then came up with the idea of making the game for both PS4 and 3DS at the same time, realizing that the 3DS version will sell far more copies. And that many DQ fans will buy both versions of the game.
All of this is because Yuji Horii is a genius. SquareEnix marketing/localization department have proven time and again that they are stupid. And years ago when they were starting development for DQXI, the western market didn't even come into their calculations.

Nintendo revealing Ryu in Smash was more surprising. Cloud is just another third party character now. Still surprising, but not as big of an impact as Ryu.
Whereas SquareEnix supporting Dragon Quest is something they have been actively saying they won't do for over 4 years. Then overnight, they just reverse that policy. It would be like if they suddenly announced a Chrono sequel. it's that big.
