Just wondering, is this currently the best MMO on the market? I picked up Black Mage in my trial and this game seems pretty fun.

The journey from 1 to 60 is quite fun though and takes a bit to complete
I miss playing. I just dont see a point but I think thats a personal problem. The world is beautiful and I had a ton of fun in it.
I enjoy raiding and pve but I am not a hardcore raider. I dont have the time or will to devote so much of my life to it to stay caught up.
I enjoyed wow and aion immensly but only because of their pvp. Thats where I feel a sense of victory. I mean its fun to beat a raid boss but it loses its allure knowing I have to do it dozens of times just for loot that makes beating it easier.

The trial is pretty bad at selling the game since no class is fun until 50.

The leveling experience is great. The fact there are attunements are great. Being one character and do everything tickles my FFXI nostalgia. Aside from that, tome grinding, retarded ass catch up mechanics, and boring shallow gear and gameplay killed me off. HW only compounded the problem.
If they don't try something really different in the next patch or two, I imagine subs dropping off sharply, as if they aren't already.

FFXIV is the best "standard" style MMO at least, there is probably better games out there but MMOs depend a lot on the community and consistency of updates, which you are guaranteed with XIV. So unless you're fine with playing a really niche game, I think XIV is the way to go.
You have an absolute fuck ton of story to get through (it's on par with normal, singleplayer Final Fantasies), and plenty to do while you're leveling. Due to a new expansion and level cap there's not too much to do once you hit 60, but you have a long way to go to get there.
I play and raid endgame as a Caster DPS main (Black Mage and Summoner), so I'll let you know right now that your rotation will be pretty simple all the way until level 60, where you need to start practicing timings, calculate potency gains/losses, and practice to the point where your rotation is pure muscle memory and you have no chance of dropping Enochian. On the bright side, Black Mage is rewarded with the highest single target burst damage over any other DPS, which is why I also recommend grabbing Quelling Strikes from Archer 34, since you will be ripping hate from even geared tanks if you do it properly.
That said, enjoy the game, it's not perfect but it's definitely fun.

When you pop Enochian for trash, do you perform a normal Enochian rotation? Or is there some way to perform an AoE rotation and keep it up. I typically will do two Fire II's and a Flare rotation, which allows me to get off a Blizzard IV after the Blizzard III, but I can only keep that up for the first Enochian rotation unless I drop a second Fire II from then on. Is there a better way to perform trash AoE pulls? I always feel like a shitter for doing single target, but I love them Fire IV numbers.

Going a class over a job brings raid utility.
CURRENTLY, the benefit to being a class over a job increases your party's DEFENSIVE Capability:
Classes can do the following things that MOST jobs cannot:

>Reduce physical damage recieved with Virus
>Swiftcasted stoneskins on a party member
>Eye for an Eye for more reduced damage
>Provoke (admittably with limited use by non-tanks, but there are uses for it in raids)
A class can support the defensive side of the party that jobs cannot. In terms of pure DPS, Jobs are that, damage dealers, whereas classes can specilize in these sort of defensive-ness aspects as well.
If Yoshida ever adds cross-class abilities into the game post level 50, i'd like to see some more healing-orientated shit.

THM cannot use Goad
The only benefit to going THM over BLM is to cast infinite stoneskins. You have infinite MP, and can use it to spam stoneskin.

BACK IN THE DAY, you could have used provoke as a way to utilize your 100% physical reduction shit.
FOR INSTANCE, in Twintania, a THM could provoke the boss right before death sentence and cast Manaward, then have the tank grab it since you still had 2 stacks of manaward left

It only exists for lore reasons anymore.
In fact they could easily just make it so that as soon as you hit 30 and do your quest, your job crystal becomes permanently equipped on that class. Arcanists would just get a button to toggle jobs in the stats screen.
