I'm not trying to shitpost or anything, I am just curious... at what point is undertale going to be fun? Is there a point in the game where it really becomes interesting? I've only played a little bit and the fight system seems a bit dull at the start so I am wondering...

its not a game you play for "fun" really. it reminds me of to the moon more than anything, where its more about the story than actual gameplay
but to the moon barely qualified as a game, undertale actually has some game to it. also after completing true pacifist I refuse to play this game ever again.
this is more of an experience than a game
So to summarize, there might be some interesting puzzles in there but the fight system will never begint to be exciting and the only thing that might help me get through the game is a story that might or might not be to my taste. I get it I guess.

that guy is just being dumb, enjoying a good story is fun though and for a lot of people that can be a big draw to a game. Gameplay is not the only thing that can be fun in a game (though its probably the most important )

As someone said earlier, it's mediocre. People just latch onto the characters because they are designed around easy-to-recognize stereotypes. Sans has the weakest characterization but people are won over because he occasionally drops a line which they think is legitimately scary for some reason.
People are just very easily impressed by surface-level techniques used better in other media. It's to the point where "It's not supposed to be fun!" is unironically used to defend the so-called "evil" route.
