I'm a legit world champion sports shooter m8. My shooting is only partially judged on accuracy, it's also judged on time. Time being measured by literal milliseconds. I think this is a good example of how limitations of the systems impact the games. Both games suffered from this, so I have to agree on this point.
If we ignore the KOJIMA writing, the fact is that the other games were just much more enjoyable from a gameplay standpoint, as well as storytelling.

MGS1 was alright 2 was so so and 3 was pretty good™. Both endings were incredible.
Chapter 4 had Big Boss throwing away The Boss' will and her bandanna, and finally owning up to his own legacy (which was retconned in the MGSV novelization, since now Outer Heaven and Zanzibar were created to fulfill the Boss' will somehow), and Chapter 5 had Big Boss accepting the part of being the biggest villain in the world, hunted by everyone, and setting up Outer Heaven.
PW is the true missing link in the saga.

except for how silly and over the top the ending was, and the mammal pod business, the writing in PW was great I think. It has more restraint than most MGS games but it gets just as much done as the previous entries. I legitimately do think PW has the best cast of characters in the series, and people complain about the codec conversations being removed but I think the cassette tapes of PW are better (Paz's diary being the best example of everything good about PW writing).
the intro is particularly good, dat atmosphere during the silent credit scroll in the first mission
personally I liked the gameplay, the shorter levels always kept the pace up and avoided player exhaustion unlike MGS3 and TPP which can have some pretty lengthy sneaking sections. It was fun to develop and experiment with new weapons, Motherbase has a good interface, and it was addicting to catch 'em all (especially when they're hidden mini challenges like the snipers or the sleeping guards in inaccessible areas). I loved the co-op too, stealth co-op is king tier

This 100%. I see it as creating art from adversity. A lot of PW's story and drama relies on you caring about the characters and about Motherbase, but the limited PSP system meant that Kojima had to find a way to properly portray and develop the characters and Motherbase in an effective but doable way. The cassetes were the answer.
It's why TPP falls flat. In PW, you could accept and enjoy the cassetes because you knew they were there to show things you couldn't see otherwise.
In TPP, it fails because it just makes you think "Why isn't this a cutscene?"

I think PW fails gameplay wise, which is to be expected since it's a portable game made to be played in short bursts, but story-wise, it's absolutely a great sequel to MGS3.
You might dislike the whole Boss AI plot point (And I think that while the plot point itself s dumb, the way it was used and the purpose it served was very well done), but the story manages to either explain or foreshadow most of what would drive the series later on in the timeline.
Hal's parents are shown, Big Boss deciding to create a stateless army to interfere in the world's affair, Outer Heaven becoming a nuclear power and building a Metal Gear, it finally explains why Big Boss and Zero split up (Zero believed the "The world must be whole again" speech, while Big Boss thought it was a cover-up, and only saw The Boss as the ultimate soldier loyal to her mission to the end), it shows how Miller got to know Big Boss well enough to train Solid to kill him, it shows who created and where the Patriot AIs came from, etc.

I wish there was more meaningful content. I can't believe they created an open world, but don't allow you to drive your own Metal Gear around in it (Battle Walker was supposed to be this, but it was cut late in development). The only mech battle is against ST.84. The only vehicles are Jeeps and Trucks with little variety. I can't believe there are no flying vehicles to use. Motherbase feels lifeless and boring. You can't even meet and interact with Ocelot, Kaz and the child soldiers. The place feels dead and boring. A far cry from PW's motherbase, which was a glorified spreadsheet, and managed to feel bustling and alive, thanks to great characterizations in the cassetes.
In PW, you didn't see things happen in Motherbase, but heard them. In TPP, you don't see or hear.
