The enemies in the DLC in general seem to cover a lot more room to the side up to right behind them. Good thing about the sharks is that they're always close to stuff you can hide behind.

Something unrelated: Found out today that the fishermen drop chunks. Now I COULD upgrade weapons to + 9 before killing rom but the thought of going there at a low level fills me with despair.

Holy fuck, that was probably my most satisfying moment from playing this game yet.
After getting rekt more than 10 times in NG++, I've finally done it. I actually had a harder time on the first phase. The second was easier due to most of its attack are sword based and rarely dead angle.
Also, what's the point of that lantern to the right before Ludwig? I thought the path branches from there. Is research lab the only way to go forward for me at this moment?

Chunk drops are probably too rare, so you're better off just do chalice dungeons.

I had them mostly drop radial gems (waning for the lightning wizards). So far I only had a single chunk from a few dozen of them. There is just one spot below the lighthouse lamp where you can off a few easily from above, with some oil filled pots.

Now that I think about it it might not even have been a fishermen but one of the dogs. The armed dogs and those in the chalice dungeons drop shards. Have to look into that later.
I had the hardest time with Laurence by far. I got Ludwig on my first try, those ayyys on my first, Maria on my third and orphan on my second. Fucking Laurence took almost ten tries.
