let’s not be too critical here; the movie is very good at what it’s supposed to be doing and since I liked the game a lot I am a bit biased towards overseeing its hiccups. It has a fine name in its title and for the duration it was allowed, it offered a basic plot and lots of good action. It sure felt a lot more enjoyable that, let’s say, the animated Tekken movie or the live action adaptations of Super Mario, Street Fighter, Dead or Alive, or Dragonball. Plot and character emersion suffer of course but the soundtrack is still awesome and I still watch the action scenes from time to time. That counts as a half-success to me.

I remember being a young teen and knew nothing about VII. Watched Advent Children, loved it. I mean I really adored it.
Now the more I think of it, the less I like it. Amazing music and beautiful CG. Can't deny that. But the terror triplets were just Nomura being Nomura. Yazoo held no value except driving those dumb kids who apparently trust anyone and crime doesn't exist for some reason so they have no reason to not trust him I guess? In AC: Complete, I can't think of a single thing he did aside from smack Reno around, get mad over his mom, and die. Loz at least had a cool fight with Tifa. And cried. That's it. Kadaj was just some whiny brat and I get annoyed simply thinking about him.

By Shinra I mean Rufus Shinra and no he's not dead and his character was great. Turks are comic relief but they actually hold their own against Loz and Yazoo at one point and they're pretty useful even if they're not crazy OP like the others
The story is cool because it leads to a bunch of cool fights, it's like the story in a DMC game, it's just there to give you a reason to beat up demons
Barret is weird, Cid is meh but the others are great

Chibi models were only the shitty overworld and were only because of the limitations, the FMVs and even the battles showed way more grand movements and even more crazy shit than AC like the summons or Sephiroth's supernova

Nomuras inclusion and sakaguchis removal are the 2 biggest factors.
Nobody took the movements of the overworld models literally, they're more expressive and animated because thats the only way to convey body language with such limited hardware.
The translation of these physics to realistic models are very jarring to say the least and is just another example of why advent children doesn't feel right and why the remake is going to fall flat on its face if it tries to translate these scenarios into a fully realised world.
