There are still some goths left, but yeah you won't find them easily on the streets as you'd do in the 80s. And yes, most kids who self-proclaim themselves as "goths" nowdays are more like a mix between emos and scene, not goth.
Your best bet would be to frequent some festivals like M'era Luna or That Spring (I don't know if That Spring fest is still held, but I know M'era Luna is because they're doing one this year)
