From the little I know about the quake "story", quake 1 was basically the initial invasion, and then by 2-4 they had captured enough humans to convert into shock troops/fodder. Note how most of the bosses are still non-human.

No not the slightest.

Quake 1 was supposed to be an action RPG about a hammer wielding guy named QUAKE. That's why castles and ogres and monsters and shit.

Thing is they made an awesome engine and when they were done, they realized they haven't done THE FUCKING GAME. So, with the assets at hand, they remade a DOOM clone for themselves.

Still, the contrast of the Ranger fighting interdimensional Old Ones is fucking awesome and Romero pulled it off well.

He's right actually.
The Strogg needed biomass to continue expanding but had no way to get any. They found Shub-Niggurath and contracted her to open portals to earth. In Quake 1 you've been sent through the portals to find and destroy Shub and close the portals.

Quake 2 is many years later, earth has built a fleet and army to invade Stroggos and fuck them in in retaliation for the initial attack.

I really liked Q1's atmosphere and world. It felt pretty incomplete sometimes, but was otherwise great.

I wonder how things would've been like had instead of making Doom 3, id made Quake 4 as a remake/sequel to Quake 1 and added in all the stuff that didn't make it.

the strogg, much like the combine, are a capture and conquer species. they actively convert new species they conquer to their side by adding bio implants and shit. if you played quake 4 you got to sit there while your character was slowly and methodically converted to strogg in first person (pretty brutal cutscene actually).

I spent like a thousand fucking hours of my life playing Q3 and I never knew the series had any sort of plot. Like I just thought they made all of the shit look the way it looks because it looks cool. I mean, THEY DID, you can't seriously tell me they didn't FIRST invent all the cyborgs and robots and monsters and all that shit and make the levels a ridiculous mix of space platforms, industrial looking areas, temples, spartan looking battle arenas, satanic ritualism all over the place, and THEN tried to hapharzardly come up with a story that fits. Still, I didn't even know they tried.

multiplayer is dead. But i enjoyed the campaign back in the day when it was released. It's the same engine as doom 3 so you'll notice the graphics are dated somewhat but it's not an eyesore.
