I'm glad I made the switch in 2013, though I still dual-boot in the older laptop.
Linux gaming is becoming more and more of a thing, though, if only because cross platform libraries for indie devs and attention from Steam OS.

Probably Ubuntu.

The most common are Ubuntu and Linux Mint, which come from Debian. SteamOS as well.
But in the end there's no great difference between distros, aside from the default Desktop Environment and the Package Manager.
For those of you who are on the fence, give it a try. Not depending on the next turd from MS it's very liberating. Specially since they're being bolder with their damn spyware.
You can always dual boot.
