the leadership in my guild was a couple that just played wow all day and like 4 of their irl friends, we played together for years, we only did 10 mans so it wasn't hard to have a solid 10 that we could count on, I was objectively the best tank on the server so my spot was always there for me, idk if there was any behind the scenes drama with dps fighting over a spot or something but it was never there at raid time
I miss that guild, I loved the organization and teamwork of raiding, especially in mists with all the boss mechanics and tight enrage times before nerfs

What i did against this was to just hang around the smokers when they did. Depends on how many in your office or workplace do smoke. If a good portion do, you get vastly out of the loop and can miss out on good networking for raises/promotions if people higher than you attend and you enter their cliche.

My guild had a "brb someone's at the door" once. Was just a hunter so it wasn't a big deal so we kept clearing without him. 30 minutes later he still wasn't back so we booted him out and brought someone else in. Doesn't log back in until the next day, apparently it was the cops at the door and he fit the description of some criminal and got taken down to the police station for the night.
And of course it became something of a running joke whenever he had to afk afterwards.
I miss that guild, wasn't a serious progression guild and everyone was always having fun but we were good enough that we had managed to get a few bosses in Sunwell down before the big nerf hit. Of course after the nerf we cleared the rest but that's not worth much.

My guild was surprisingly equal parts female and male or well, there was about 13 active female raiders and about 16 male raiders so close enough. The girls were just as talkative on Vent as the guys too. Surprisingly enough only one of those girls was in a relationship with one of the guys. I'm still amazed at how well that guild functioned since I always was waiting for some kind of drama bomb to go off but it never happened. The largest drama I can think of happening was just the average stupid "why am I being forced to sit out on this raid?" shit.

The guy I mentioned is a friend and he actually doesnt take the piss, literally goes out to smoke, but it's the double standards that get to me.
Near every non smoker has said at least once they thought of taking up smoking just to get in on the 5 minute sit offs.
