Steam selling mods made v hate him despite the fact that Steam wasn't forcing anyone to make paid mods.

Once Valve saw that they couldn't pull the wool over people's eyes about it, though, he reversed the decision. Not out of any sense of regret, I'm sure, but because it's bad PR.

>So regret?
Not really?

I mean he didn't regret putting paid mods on the table. He didn't reverse the decision because he thought paid mods were bad. He reversed the decision because people actually kicked up a storm about it.

Regret implies that he's sorry about the whole thing, but I doubt that he is.

He might regret the backlash (since he was most likely hoping that more people would just go along with it without much thought), but he doesn't regret the initial decision and will most likely just try a more subtle approach in the future.

It's in the steam TOS that they have no obligation to make your games accessible to you, and refusing to accept the TOS even when it changes means they will deny you access to your library.

Option a) Making an account on one of the mod nexus sights to be able to install mods. You have to navigate the site to find the most up to date version of your mod because all versions are consistently hosted on the site. After finding and downloading the file you have to either split up onto two routes, downloading a patcher-like application to install your mods, or drag and drop them into the correct directory yourself. Make sure you have additional programs installed like winrar to do this.

OR

Option b) Search for it on steam and click subscribe

>>
>>318069452
Maybe when he started to sleep on baconweave pillows.
>>
>>318069104
Developers aren't going to want to dramatically discount their games for the entire duration of the sale, unlike before when they would have a steep but not too steep discount, then have a flash sale or daily deal that discounted it 75-90 percent. That's how they got a ton of impulse buyers, which would increase the player base of their game, which otherwise might not have sold that well.

That, and it was fun impulse buying cheap games I otherwise would never have given a second thought to.
>>
>>318069487
>Yes, but he doesn't care about the fact that it upset people. He cares that it affected his PR.
So he obviously regretted his decision because it affected PR.

He's still feeling regret.

We're not really arguing about anything but semantics right now.

Citations about what? Do you want me to find a Gabe Newell quote saying "I memed it, I ruined PC gaming"?

Turning steam into facebook had a very negative impact on the community.

Throwing agressive sales at the userbase turned them into entitled fucks. Developers don't give a shit about PC because nobody buys games unless they are under $5.

Dota 2, and Team Fortress 2 are the most played games on steam.

Should I even mention the "early acess" debacle?

Hah
Developers don't give a shit about PC because nobody buys games unless they are under $5.
Seems Devs should lower their prices then, if the market won't respond to a higher price.

How is this a negative again?
>Dota 2, and Team Fortress 2 are the most played games on steam.

>Should I even mention the "early acess" debacle?
Early access has been a thing since forever. They were just called "full conversion" mods back then.

1. Friendlist for added availability to play with people you meet through game, or to help organize events through groups. Social connections don't take away anything from the game, and if you think it does the ignore/mute button should just be clicked more often on your end.
2. Steam tackled the piracy issue that was a main excuse for developers to ignore it for an awfully long time, as well as making an easy of access interface for video games that other companies had already been working on for things such as movies (Netflix, Hulu, etc.). This put PC gaming back on the map for a bit for people trying to sell games, aka the creators. In case you haven't realized, the ease it is to sell and play games through steam has broadened the library games offered. Many Japanese games are getting ports (Most I will admit being half-assed) that I never would have imagined. Steam is making visual novels normalcore, I would say it's not harming developers but letting more developers compete for sales, which applied with basic economics says an increase of quality over time.
3. Asian mmo companies have been doing the free to play for years at this point. That was just as simple as American money see, American money do. These models are usually applied to the cheapest made games for maximum profits. This is where video games were going since it is ran by business people and share holders.

Checkmate, Atheists.
