I'll admit it, The Old Hunters DLC is the hardest thing I have ever experienced in video games. I am losing my mind.

This guy and his afterbirth jojo are fucking unbeatable.
>>
>>318062942

Shit meme game.
>>
Is it really that bad?

I just got to Ludwig and he doesn't seem very tough.

oh, /v/
>>
It's a real shame how easy Lady Maria is since you can stunlock her like most common enemies.

Similar with Orphan of Kos. Parry 2 win.

Fuck Laurence though. That was a god damn mess.
>>
NG+ right?

I died to this once in NG, Laurence 2 or 3 times. Beat the others first try.
>>
Is it viable to use the starting axe the whole game? I suck with kirkhammer hammer form is too slow for me so I suck with it. Only best cleric beast and father guacamole
>>
Probably, I used the cleaver for the whole thing.
>>
>>318063208
All weapons are viable.

In fact, the axe is considered one of the best items in the game. Or was, I don't know how the meta has changed with the updates and DLC.
>>
>>318063042
Imo Kid Kos is the hardest boss in any of the "souls type" games
>>
>>318063380
Thanks mate. The game definitely has a nice feel to the combat. I keep pressing triangle to 2 hand like a tard and wasting syringes, but they are common as fuck.
>>
>>318062942
You can stun lock him better with the saw blade
>>
>>318062942
He is weird, first run I one shot him, next run I died 6 times

Some tips; stay on his ass, you can just walk around a lot of his first phase attacks and backstab him, you can also parry his crazy chains

When he enters second phase lead him in to the ocean, you can easily dodge the lightening there after his scream and there won't be anything obstructing you

When he throws his hubba bubba at you, never dodge in to him, but back - otherwise he can land all 3 and get one shot
>>
OP here, JUST BEAT HIM!

Got to his second form and noticed I he was at 1/4 hp and I had lots of vials, started cheesing by always having full health. Choked hard as fuck but somehow finally managed to beat him, 12 or so hours later.
>>
>>318063918

>>
So where do you go after kos?
>>
>>318065745
Nowhere, that's the end of the DLC.
>>
Being able to parry bosses was a mistake
>>
>>318062942
>100% meme difficulty
>>
I found Ludwig pretty challenging.
Living Failures were just that.
Maria was pretty okay but parry to win and i just lost a few times from panicking/running out of ammo one time cus repeater pistol.
I have 2 tries so far on Orphan but haven't went on cus 1 try i had like 10 vials and the other i just failed.

Orphan seems very manageable i just need to go get some more vials before i attempt.

Laurence was fuck though. I should've hugged his left leg from the start though honestly but he two shotted me so many times those fire hitboxes are giant when combined with clerics already big arms and his AI was much more aggressive.

He took me like 12-15 tries but i didn't hug his leg until the last 3. Holy shit i'm rusty as fuck at games and something like him should've seemed easier especially since i've been through Master Ninja like 10 times in the past but fuck he put my through hell.
>>
>>318063137
what level were you, and did you have chalice gems?
>>
>>318063918
>hardest thing
>beats him same day
yeah, right
>>
>>318066412
ya Laurence was pretty much the only boss i truly had problems with since i couldn't really attack him from the back. The orphan was alright all you really had to do is actually fight him really close and time every attack right. Maria was like orphan but a bit more challenging and Ludwig with some summons was easy.
>>
Stop being double niggers and play the DLC as intended. Tricked beast claws only.
>>
>>318066778
>Ludwig with summons was easy.

Cmon man any boss is easy if you have something to continually distract it.
>>
>>318066507

I don't think there is a set meta for PvP.

For summoning, the game scales you down to the host's BL, so you should always be able to get summoned as long as someone is in the area wanting help.

Views. He usually completes the new (Souls) games that have been released even if he gets stuck at some part. Only in DLC's he just doesn't give a shit anymore if things don't go his way from the start.

I think he legitimetaly enjoyed DaS2 because of lightning spells which allowed him to just cheese every encounter without any issue

To be fair, if he had beaten him with some miracle he would have ragequited on Kos anyway.
>>
>>318062942
I don't think it's the hardest thing ever, it's mostly just endurance test. Instead of splitting up boss fights they just require you to do them one after another. Oh sure you can't fuck up as much but it's not like the enemies patterns are difficult to figure out. You just have to be consistent. I just prefer difficulty to be in short bursts not long drawn out redo boredom.
>>
>>318073579

>>
>>318073579
just run behind him before he casts it

>>
>>318073020
Actually healing next to a boss is sometimes more beneficial than away from them in Bloodborne. So many bosses have huge AOE long ranged attacks that just dodging and healing behind/next to the boss is better. Otherwise it's pretty right I would assume.
>>
>>318073160
He's not wrong. I mean, it's not that difficult in comparison to other stuff from the series. But it's literally just an amalgamation of fuck... Just lazy design.
>>
>>318062942
I did it with 10vit, you just have to try harder and learn his moves

>>
>>318063918
>cheesing by always having full health
you mean playing safe and sensibly?
>>
>>318074993
I don't think it's lazy at all.

Ludwig has the most unsettling design of anything in Bloodborne, in my opinion. And it's in part due to how he's an "amalgamation of fuck."
>>
>>318074525
I mean he did admit that he was glad he quit when he did. If all the bosses were like that, which they are he would have lost his mind anyways. Which is fine with me. I don't get why any of you give a fuck whether he "bitches out" or not. It's his choice, you made yours and no one gives a fuck.

Unsettling... for no reason. It has no literal reason to look like that. Cool for looking creepy i guess but no one cares. This isn't a horror game. It's an action game with alien invaders morphing people. I just don't buy him looking like that when everyone else turned into werebears, turned bigger, etc. Something more logical than that. Best transformation of a "boss" will always be the blind man I thought I could kill so easily.

It is for a reason.

I forget which item description this comes from, but one describes how the more holy a man, the more terrifying the beast he becomes is. Ludwig was one of the first members of the Healing Church, so it makes sense for him to be so abhorrent.

He always tried to heal directly in front of Ludwig, the wondered why he was still getting hit.

>You can say that it's not a good design

I think its good design and its persistent throughout the whole game. There are some really cool details by just looking at enemies. For example the new Bloodletter weapon and the old Bloodletting beast. When you stab yourself with it what you are doing is killing the vermin worm inside you. Its like a cleansing thing. The Bloodletting beasts has a giant hole on his back and a worm inside him. Whoever the BLB was must have been a really holy man or hunter who tried several times to stab him and get rid of the worm but it was too late for him and went mad. The release turned him into that fuck huge beast.

>>318079237
I've had too many times where the host has been shit and just died in the last two minutes. I'm normally good enough to dance around the boss and weather it down with some back-up from the host.

Yes. You have to hit enemies in the back with a maximum charged R2, then you walk up and tap R1 to backstab. It's essentially the same thing as parrying and doing a v. attack, except you R2 their back instead of shooting them just before they land an attack.

Being dead.

She died from the parasites and washed up on the fishing village shore. Then the villagers started fucking with it and then the scholars started fucking with them pissing of The Orphan and Maria.

The real question is how the hell Kos got there to begin with. In order to summon a Great One Mensis (and presumably the other ancient civilizations) had to do shit like perform mass sacrifice rituals in order to bridge the nightmare and reality.

As far as we know Kos just sort of washed up with no magic or any bullshit. Then again I guess she could have been old as fuck living at the bottom of the body of water or some shit.
>>
>>318088224
>implications
Orphan of Kos has been inside that belly for a long-ass time. his inability to leave his mother's side is shown in the fact that his essence sticks around EVEN AFTER you kill his body. It refuses to let things go, and return to the ocean like it should (hence the unrelenting curse of beasts that is unjustly punishing the people in Yharnam for the sins of their ancestors)

Furthermore, notice how the Orphan drags, like, half of Kos's body out with it when it emerges. It's very obviously been in their for quite a bit longer than intended

>Byrgenwerth shows up

>Orphan gets pissed, flees with village into the Nightmare, curses Old Blood that Yharnamites use as revenge
>years pass
>choir and mensis start exploring the Nightmare
>choir sets up labs in the Frontier
>start experimenting on people
>Maria is in charge (or at least in the inner circle)
>the find the fishing village
>Maria becomes disgusted with what she's done
>tosses her weapon
>makes a pact with the Orphan like Gehrman did with the MP
>becomes host of the Hunter's Nightmare
>sucks in blood-addled hunters, ensures that any future hunters join the party
>they murder the local choir staff

I don't think any research ever actually happened inside the nightmare. I think we're making some big assumptions that the Fishing Hamlet and the Research Hall in Nightmare Frontier are both real places that got warped into a nightmare dimension but I'll accept it. However I'm fairly convinced that once the Micolash nightmare happens Maria has long since faded away into her nightmare and thus precedes that. In addition the Orphan thing probably has to happen almost at the same time because we haven't seen anything where you can have a nightmare dimension without a host first.

So while the specific don't matter it's

>Byrgenwerth fucks with fish people
>They do experiments on both the fish people and research hall patients
>Maria and Orphan make Hunter's Nightmare

Hell I think she basically has to predate even Gehrman making his nightmare since the Doll is probably Gehrman's and that could only be the result of his waifu leaving him first.

So really

>Maria makes her dream
>Gehrman makes his
>LONG ASS TIME
>Mensis achieves a dream with Micolash

furthermore, he doesn't have an umbilical cord, I'm looking at the fight right now and I see no such thing -- if you want to claim otherwise, point it to me. Regardless of whether it's called an "umbilical cord" or "third of an umbilical cord," all other Great Ones that are stated to be infants drop them when they die, no matter what their models look like. The fact that the Orphan does not, is strong evidence to suggest that it's a lot older and developed than you seem to think

Where did this "Orphan is really old" come from?

Even if it was thousands of years old that doesn't mean the thing was up and walking around previously. Which for all intents and purposes makes it a newborn since it has had no time to develop.

I mean is there actual proof it was doing stuff outside the womb prior to your arrival?
>>
>>318090227
Maria can't have made her nightmare before Gehrman, Gehrman is the first hunter, and him making a pact with the MP is what kickstarted his career as a hunter.

the way I see it, Maria disappeared into the Nightmare with the Choir, and never came back, so Gehrman assumed that she died or knew she was otherwise lost forever, and made his waifu to compensate.

And we do have an example of a nightmare realm existing without a host -- the Lecture building. when Nightmare planes merge with reality, shit gets outright sucked in or copied -- like a moving/copying files in a computer -- all the time
>>
>>318076029
I'm happy someone else said this. Cause I beat Mcdonalds or Micolash w/e u wanna call him first time. Came back through on NG+ and it is like he started spamming that attack and all of sudden I was respawning. It took off a lot of health.

Old Hunters is the hardest part of bloodborne by far. The hunters are vicious, and take off huge chunks of health and the attacks stagger all the time. It makes fighting them great fun but its also kinda scary.

Did they update the chalice dungeons? I'm hopin for some new bossess and stuff in the dungeons? I realized that as boring as the dungeons are when you force a run through them, they are fun to go into from time to time to fight bosses. The fighting in BB is great. Just great.

Bloodborne is totally a horror game

I feel like you're supposed to do each depth at a certain point inside the game, but that point isn't shown enough. Like Depth 1 0/3-1/3 into the game, Depth 2 1/3-2/3 into the game, Depth 3 2/3-3/3 into the game, Depth 4 on NG+ and Depth 5 on NG++.
>>
>>318091126

it's clearly been in the womb longer than intended, disembowling the mother's body -- even pulling out it's skeleton -- isn't something that's meant to happen and is a strong visual cue that it is much bigger than it's supposed to be, which is a hint that it's forced itself to stay in.

In addition, the fact that it's spirit clings to it's mother after death instead of moving on gives off the impression that it was WAY too attached to being inside it's mother's body.

Plus, people like the idea that the Orphan was the one who cursed everyone and made the Hunter's Nightmare instead of Maria, since Kos is dead, and thus would naturally have difficulty doing these things (even if Great Ones don't truly die when they die, they seem to go dormant like Yharnam and Annalise)

He has an umbilical cord, far as I'm aware. Sticks out of his belly button, wraps around him from his left side. Just checked a video to make sure, but I have this practically ingrained into my memory - fought that fucker many, many times before I beat him earlier today.

What's to say the umbilical cord itself (considering the "third of an" thing) isn't his? That the various characters in the game somehow inherited parts of it, in some form or other? Iosefka in her likening to Maria with her experiments, Mergo what with their shared fates as newly born Old Ones, Arianna with her relation to Kos in this instance, having given birth to an elder babby, etc. etc.
>>
>>318091408
But that doesn't imply that the founding of the Hunter's Dream created the proper organization of being "A Hunter". Even within that description it beckoned "the hunters" who clearly existed before Gehrman created his dream world.

You don't need a connection with a nightmare/dream to be a hunter and it's not as if there aren't like a dozen groups of people using the blanket term "hunter" so I don't get where you're getting the idea that Gehrman didn't already have a career as a hunter before the point he makes contact with the Moon Presence and gets his waifu sanctuary.

>It has no literal reason to look like that.
the more powerful the person, the more powerful their will to resist the transformation, the more horrifying and hideous the resulting transformation eventually is.

one of the earliest items tells you that when the scourge hit, clerics became the most horrifying beasts, and it follows the theme. Cleric Beast, Vicar Amelia, Lawrence, and Ludwig all became the most hideous beasts imaginable.

Ludwig himself actually has a reason specified in his own fight.

His Moonlight Greatsword was his "guiding moonlight". he saw slivers of light that talked to him and kept him sane throughout his hunts.

In fact, the moment his sword enters trick mode, he suddenly regains cognitive human thought, and even stands upright. The sword and it's light was what kept him from transforming, and so when he eventually did transform, he became a horrifying mess that was also likely part ayy-lmao due to the eldritch nature of the sword itself, his second head has eyes lining it's mouth, so not only did he become a beast but he also attained "eyes" from the sword, so he became even more horrifying through it.

>the way I see it, Maria disappeared into the Nightmare with the Choir, and never came back, so Gehrman assumed that she died or knew she was otherwise lost forever, and made his waifu to compensate.

I'm not so sure. Seems likely that Maria committed suicide, what with the given evidence in her boss room and the description of her chosen weapon having been discarded in the well. She probably just felt disgusted with all that she had done and wanted to end it all - Gehrman either made the doll in remembrance out of grief, or made an idealised form of her to get away from the fact that she was the proto-mad scientist of the Choir. Perhaps both.

The nightmare's blatantly the cause of the orphan, evidenced most obviously through how it says the usual "NIGHTMARE SLAIN" when you kill its spirit.
>>
>>318090325
I have yet to really experiment with the entire host of weapons since I don't want to spend the blood chunks.

>>
>>318091504
Not to mention the only horror game in a long time to actually put the fear of death in you.

Bloodborne is the best kind of horror game, the kind that let's the horror speak for itself. Instead of some scripted haunted house ride. A person who doesn't find something scary shouldn't have it forced down their throat, it just becomes tedious.
>>
>>318091816
nothing technically stops that, since there isn't any item description that explicitly states otherwise. however, I would urge you to apply Occam's Razor here, since there are multiple possible explanations that all fit the "confirmed" lore. All the explanations you're forwarding to claim that the Orphan isn't old tend to produce more questions than answers

I dont think so, that happened after. Remember, the Hunter's Dream workshop is based on the real one in Cathedral Ward, which is where Gherman and his hunters originally worked, until the Church shut them down and set up church hunters instead. At some point gherman was enthralled by the Moon presence, and set up to suck up Hunters to do moon presence's will.

except that the description of the Yharnam Hunter Set said that no-one tried using "normal" people as Hunters until Ludwig, because normies don't stand a chance against the beasts. this in turn implies that all previous (real) hunters were dreamers

>>318092028
>non-dream hunters weren't a thing until Ludwig started recruiting the masses
Non dream hunters were a thing.

the church originally employed Hunters sort of like assasins. to cut down beasts before things got too messy. Eventually, when old yharnam happened, that was when the scourge hit big time and they burned the place down. From there, The hunter's workshop was closed, Cathedral Ward closed it's doors, and the Church set up their own internal church hunters, the likes of which were people like Ludwig and whatsername the yandere waifu.
>>
>>318092310
if she killed herself in the real world, that would be evidence for her corpse being in the IRL hunter's workshop, not her being dead in the Nightmare (unless she was trying repeatedly to do so there as well).

Personally, I think that she's like Micolash. She portaled into the Nightmare with whatever researchers were in the Nightmare Frontier, and left her body behind -- only she stayed so long that it died without her
>>

>>
>>318093002

>>
>>318092414
Come now. I refer you to >>318091408, who made a pretty valid point. If Laurence, Gehrman and co. lured the Moon Presence with a cord to conceive the Hunter's Dream, they must have got it from somewhere. I believe they obtained it from the orphan. Makes sense, no?

Even if the orphan is decades, or centuries old - that may mean nothing in elder god years. Time is inconsequential to them. What does the 'age' of it matter? When you get asked for your age, do you tell people your age calculated from when you were conceived, or from when you were birthed from your mother? The orphan's a newborn, plain as day.
>>
>>318093228
how old the Orphan is, from the Orphan's pov, isn't important. the claim that people are making is that the Orphan was in the womb when Byrgenwerth fucked up the Fishing Hamlet, and was responsible for the Curse and for creating the Hunter's Nightmare with Maria
>>
>You must accept your death, be freed from the night.

QUESTION. When Gehrman says this, is it supposed to imply some sort of meta fourth wall break? That the only way for the player to be free from this world is, to quite literally, accept your death and walk away from the game?

Or is it explained in the lore what actually being free from hunting implies?
>>
>>318093228
>Makes sense, no?

No it doesn't. The Church/Mensis/Burgerking were trying for years to get closer to the Great Ones and hybrids were attempted all the time. The two other chords are from random ladies who got space preggers so I don't see why the third chord has to come from The Orphan just because he was around during that time.

I mean fuck there are attempts at Great One babies going back literally to the dawn of recorded history back with Queen Yharnam. You can take a chord from any given point in history.
