Also, Awakening prevented the Fire Emblem series from stagnating itself to death, and Lucina was pretty popular. I know that you probably mostly browse 4chan, and it's really easy to just dismiss waifufags as subhuman, but as a total third party here who has never played a Fire Emblem game and watched this shit from the outside, it's pretty clear that this backlash against the character started specifically because she became popular. All of this extended use of the character beyond Awakening seems to have come after her Smash announcement, or alongside it, which is well after people started to grow fond of her.
It's not like people don't like her. It looks to me like it's just traditional Fire Emblem fans from before Awakening don't like her, because they feel older characters deserve the recognition more.And those people aren't Fire Emblem's target demographic anymore.

While Mark is still a self-insert it's way more difficult to do with him than with Robin. And I think some of the more "pushed" pairings should stay that way and not be changed for a everybody supports kind of thing.
