This is true. Buu being a threat never primarily came from his skill or energy level. It was his magic and his invincible gum that made him such a threatening enemy. Even if he is a bit weaker now, he still has his magic, and he could still probably take full power energy blasts from every Z warrior and regenerate to come back for more.

I would, Buu was never traditionally defeated by anyone, not even the bad version of himself could beat him so he had to eat him.
Buu was able to take out Dabura, someone that Vegeta and Goku even said felt on par with Cell. Buu was able to handle a suicide attack by Vegeta, Took a beating from SSJ3 Goku and was in a standstill with not only against evil buu but kid buu as well (though kid buu was a lot weaker due to being his original form)
Not to mention, Buu has magical powers. He can turn people into candy, morph his body into anything he wants and let's not forget NEVER seems to get tired. Also constant regeneration that doesn't seem to have a limit.
And guess what? unlike Kid Buu, Buu can't even be defeated by the spirit bomb because he's literally pure of heart now.

You forget that Frieza was a prodigy who never trained. His raw power level without any training was that of a Super Saiyan. Him actually training for a few months, specially with the technology and knowledge they had would let him raise his power level to that of a SSJGSSJ.
