The assets in general are incredibly demanding memory-wise
It's actually scary because we have gta v as the bigget game now but when stuff like ffxv gets released we might be looking at a 2 disc releases on consoles
I don't remember gtav having prerendered cinematics but they take up a lot of space as well

Exactly why we were limited to smaller dvds back then with lower quality audio and now we're not
I'm not defending them, I have shitty internet but there are people with superior internet and better audio systems that would prefer this
I still believe the solution is in releasing textures, audio packs and prerendered cinematics as free dlc with 2 or more tiers

You're missing the point. FLAC isn't a very good lossless compression format. They could have easily made the size much smaller without sacrificing any audio quality.

daggerfall could easily occupy all of a computers memory with sound alone and still not be able to process that.

I'm not gonna pretend I know too much about this since I'm not an audiophile and generally listen to mp3 music but what would be a good format? Isn't flac only 10x bigger than mp3 320kbs
I do know that compression usually kills quality
Just think about ps2 games like ff12 or even xbox 360 games like mgr which had lower quality cutscenes

Now the issue is the download size
That's why I think we should have multiple tiers of downloads

Look at the mgr example
Sure mgr on the xbox360 is 8gb compared to the 21gb it is on ps3 but the quality on the assets on ps3 especially the cutscenes is a huge difference
