At some point I definitely started playing less and less so yeah, a lot of people surpassed me as I didn't really keep up with the meta and such. If I'm in the right mindset I think I can still beat a lot, if not most players, but I'm not as consistent as I once used to be.
There used to be a time where I took the game quite seriously and rarely lost a single round, since whenever I did lose a round it would set me back by a lot, so that could be pretty stressful at times.
Nowadays I can't really take the game seriously anymore and when I do still play I rarely really try, from a lack of motivation.
The game will always have a special place in my heart though.

This, pretty much.
I think some of the main reasons people kept playing in the first place were that the developers used to updated the game fairly regularly, especially when it was still in early acces, so people kept coming back to see what's new. This slowed down a lot, especially after the game got out of early access, so a lot of people just didn't have enough of an incentive to come back, especially if they'd already sunk hundreds of hours into the game. I think people got burned out, at least did.
Another main reason I think people kept playing was because of the community. There have been several groups and clans during the game's lifespan that had servers, each with their own maps, rules, events and just general ways of doing things. Although of course there were other, smaller groups, I think the main ones were School of War, Sexy Food and Blade Rebellion. I think these helped a lot to keep people interested and playing. So after these groups stopped existing people also didn't really have this place to go anymore, which I think also helped with the 'death' of the game.
Honestly though, my friend was usually better, but we made a hell of a team. Especially considering we didn't fart around with the cash shop.

Sure, that's up to you. From what I played it didn't seem that 'casual' to me, at least not in the same way that Battlefront could be considered casual. And even if you'd consider it casual that wouldn't necessarily turn me off of the game, but to each his own.

Yeah in terms of it's mechanics it doesn't seem to have as much depth. However like you mentioned there is also a teamplay aspect to consider, at least in the team-based gamemodes, which wasn't really the case with Blade Symphony.
Despite it not being very deep I still quite enjoyed the combat though. It could use some improvements, but I think they got a lot of things right and despite there only being a limited amount of features in the alpha I played, I didn't really get tired of it.
Of course some of that has to do with the novelty though, so we'll have to see how the game does in the long-term, but I do have at least some hope for the game.

Blade Symphony is the perfect example of a fighting game made with no knowledge of martial arts fundamentals.
Juggernaut should be by far the most able, especially with rapiers, but he's surrounded by flipping faggots. I still kick the shit out of people until they realize they have one combo or tactic that will win and can spam it to death.

I can see where you're coming from, but I don't think Blade Symphony is really trying to be that kind of game.
It's more inspired by the Jedi Knight games, rather than actual martial arts.
For Honor, although not fully realistic either, definitely seems to be more grounded.

I don't care about the major differences from reality, I care that Juggernaut actually uses common, sensible form but the rest of the roster is nothing but vastly exaggerated old arts with a leg up over something modern. No matter what universe, that doesn't make sense.
The fact that it's only gotten worse doesn't help. Three or four well-placed counters dropping someone is the only solace until your enemy realizes that's what you're doing and they use attacks that have better range and mobility at the same time.
