No games on vita and 3ds.
Puyo Puro x Tetris not coming to US because of shitty ubisoft remake.

Critter crunch was the last best game.
Is this a dead genre?

Its mostly just single player stuff now.
Puzzle&Dragon on 3DS, Lumines on Vita.

Genre is definitely struggling. Its a shame.

I just want 3D Classics Puyo Puyo to come over here at this point. Seems like a reasonable assumption.

Puyo puyo is one of those games that is really satisfying, but nobody ever takes the time to learn. So under appreciated in the west.

It still hurts.
>>
>>318024879
The funny thing about Puyo Puyo Tetris is that people bought it as a Tetris game or as a Puyo game, but not because of both of those things coming together. It's kind of a good thing though because the cross versus mode is terrible, but the swap mode is pretty fun if both players are decent at both games, but that requires you to be good at two games that have fairly high skill ceilings.

But I did. I hoped to rake in more Puyo players by easing in the Tetris aspect, since everyone knows Tetris but no one knows Puyo.
It failed immensely.

How come a genre so rife with competitive gameplay be so dead in the west?

Hell, Red Bull Japan hosts vidya tourneys and Puyo is there every single year.
>>
>>318025262
How can anybody actually have an issue with puyo pop?
It pretty much has no entry barrier. The rules are as simple as they get.
Shit only hits the fan if you play against people that are much better than you are, but thats just the nature of competition.

Yeah but thats a different thing.
Building chains is a skill that comes through playing a lot and learning patterns and shit.

If you play against absolute beginners you should definitely hold back, or let them play against each other.

I like puzzle games but I am not fond of the competitive ones, I'd rather there be an option for endurance runs instead of trash throwing to the other side, then it can be about skill in the normal game and not just who can throw combos at each other fastest
>>
>>318025434
Puzzle games are marketed to casuals, all the comp-fags in the west think they are for kids and old people. "Where are the guns? How do you beat the other guy up? What the hell is a 'brain'? I'll just stick to LoL lol!"

but the skill in the normal game perfectly translates to the competitive mode in most cases.
>Puyo Puyo
Countering garbage
>Panel de Pon
Garbage helps as means to counterattack (and apply pressure)
>Magical Drop
More pieces to work with/die with
>Super Puzzle Fighter II
Countering works, and the garbage blocks eventually become standard blocks

It's still skill, anon.
>>
>>318026457
It's different skill though, I'd just like a straight endurance mode where its who can last the longest and instead of trash throwing it just increases the difficulty for both players

so... an endless battle to wait it out until someone gives up? Assuming both players go toe to toe in terms of skill and always end up in the same difficulty range.

It takes less skill than regular puyo puyo and tetris because of how chains work in that mode. you can literally just pop a bunch of 1 chains and make a 10+ chain.

not to her and a couple of others
>>
>>318027718
Only barely, and at actual high-level play, they're even. You should be making 7-8 chains in the time it takes tetris players to set up back to back tetris combos.
>>
>>318027806
Aiming to do actual tetris' is actually the worst way to play tetris in that game when you are playing against puyo. Leaving a 2 space gap is the most optimal way of just getting a full attack bar.
>>
>>318027806
>and at actual high-level play, they're even
No they most certainly are not. Tetris destroys Puyo easily because:

A) Tetris does not need to build a combo
B) Tetris is not hurt by junk, junk becomes ammunition immediately
C) Tetris can do chains
D) T-Spins, one of the easiest and quickest things to set up, give as much of a score/chain multiplier as a tetris does

Puyo Puyo X Tetris is not coming outside Japan because Sega believes Puyo Puyo is too japanese for western customers. And here is what we got instead of Puyo Puyo Quest:

>>318028752
Not really the same thing. P&D is turn based, single player, you're doing direct damage instead of messing up the opponent's playing field, and the opponents don't play by the same rules as you and instead just attack after x number of turns.
>>
>>318029663
Its cheaper.
It is literally the "Greatest Hits" or "Player's Choice" version.
