I also have a hacked 3DS but play it less due to titles that look like they are either designed for children, or I just have no interest in.
I think the 3DS WAS better, but that was over 3 years ago when developers tried a bit harder. I think time spent on the Vita speaks volumes for my preference, as well as my outlook on what to play and what I want next.

When I was saying dead/dying I mean the absolute lack of first party support combined with the very slow meticulous outrolling of third party titles. The bigger issue I have with the vita however is the lack of games, especially quality ones, being released on the system, this mainly pertains to the west. We have been getting subpar indie games, decent classic ports, and less than stellar releases. With the games being shown to come later this year, this doesn't seem to be changing. The reception of the vita in the west is terrible, and games are getting ported over and made less and less. This has been happening on the 3DS too but it at least has first party support and had an initial good run.

I'm not stating I don't have interest in these games, I love ys (although you're full of shit if you think 8 is getting released anytime soon), I've been looking forward to EDF (but it keeps getting pushed back) and cyber sleuth looks interesting, but none of these are going to bolster the systems sales in any significant fashion. The vita sold like shit, is selling like shit, and will continue selling like shit and as thus its dying. As far as I can tell Sony will exit the handheld market due to this.
Just looking at game releases to be coming the biggest titles to expect till the end of the year will probably be EDF and Cold Steel, but else than that there's not shit else. 3DS isn't much better, but like I said, and I'll say again, it atleast had a really good beginning reception and midlife, which will end up with its revival in whatever new handheld Nintendo decides to spawn.

I was honestly all 3ds and hated vita for the longest time, but now my Vita gets way more play and I actually have a backlog. Most of the good games on 3ds were really short and I don't remember the last time a really good one came out, and they're making people pay $80 for all of the new fire emblem content which I am pretty miffed about still. That being said Vita has a lot of great games if you like niche genres, and the PSN sales are usually pretty good. I've gotten plenty of my games for up to 75% off. The worst part is the expensive fucking memory cards.

In all honestly, the 3ds is closer to death compared to the vita. The golden age of the 3ds is behind it, the golden age of the vita is 2016. Also the vita library is starting to dwarf the 3ds in terms of games. 3ds is just too dated.

Again I don't hate the vita. Straight up, it's just dying, again, more specifically in the west. There will be a point where you're going to expect X port, or something to be made and it simply won't happen because it's not worth the companies effort to port it over or make it. If system sales and game sales start to dwindle then it DOES affect me as ports and games I may potentially want will simply not come over here. Also Just compare Soul Sacrifice, Gravity Rush, or Muramasa to the quality of any of the recent games we've been getting over here. The biggest release was probably P4D out of this entire year. It's not negative at all, it's reality.

I like the Japanese third party support vita has alot actually. With games like Yokai Watch, Project Mirai DX, and Stella glow on 3ds. Then stuff like P4DAN, Dungeon Travelers 2, and Corpse Party Blood Drive on vita as a few of the more recent releases, i've been enjoying both alot.
