Great combat system. You have to plan every attack so you can't button mash through the game.
It's challenging and without any bullshit (most of the time).
It's literally Ghost 'n Goblins in 3D. But a lot better.
Story is meh. Music is pretty good, and the camera can be annoying at times which can mess with some platform sections. The bosses are also to easy and forgettable.
But nothing major that is holding the game back.

Honestly, I still enjoy games. I just ignore all the bad shit that's going on and just focus what I can buy.
If I get bored of games, I just take a break and pick up another hobby for a while.

I seriously didn't realize until after the fact, but it captured that "anything can happen" magic that I haven't had in forever.
You hit a point when you grow up where you're like "I know how video games work" and you tend to see everything for what it is and accept it, it's a video game, of course there's nothing behind that gate, of course you're gonna go up to that setpeice, etc.
It was weird that some indie pixelshit somehow subverted that and I felt like anything could happen, and every time it surprised me it was genuine.

The games are easy to make and it's one man team with occasionally a studio there to make a fighting game.
It wouldn't surprise me if he spent more time composing the music than he did making the game.

this game really gets the self referrential stuff right.
it takes itself seriously, but also doesnt. It has a good balance at this, and the soundtrack fits every part of the game. The game isn't perfect, and could definitely be better, like having more enemies to fight/spare etc.
but what it does right, it does it exceptionally well.
