Endless Legend is one of the best 4x games to come out in a very long time. Part of why is because it is actually trying to step out of civs shadow and do something different.
UI is great. Easy to use and tells you what you need to know.
Combat is meh. You only give troops general idea on what to do. Half of them fight must be performed by the AI which is pretty dodgy.
The races are awesome. All of them have something unique about them like being unable to declare war in exchange for economic advantages, or disregarding a resource entirely in exchange for doubling down on another.
Base building isn't that complex and the optimal building pattern was pretty goofy looking last I checked, but there are resources, global markets, mercenary markets, et al.

Really? There are many different tactics and several different strategies you can play, and the computer doesn't always play the same either.
It's a game I really like to play in coop mostly because I love coop games and because the AI mostly isn't as stupid as in many other games.
