Only about 16 of those are from before the dlc. Of them half or so are special versions. Given the way special weapons works in fallout 4, a proper list with all variants would be relatively similer to the base NV, but with far more special variants. You have to take into acount that there are like 4 different modifiable versions of just the knuckles with different models and stats. They just no longer each get their own wiki page. There are legit criticisms for the weapons in fallout 4 but this isn't one of them.

Fallout 4 has considerably more repeatable content than NV did. There are fewer named NPCs, fewer settlements, and fewer unique quests. Most of it is shallow and incredibly samey, consisting of a dungeon run with a conveniently placed loot chest and emergency exit. This is not fun or engaging content. There is hardly any reactivity or interactivity, either.

Only the first part of NV was in any way linear, and even then, players who knew what they were doing got everything they needed to utilize the Long 15, the backroads, Primm Pass, or Hidden Valley to get to Vegas faster. Outer Vegas is filled with low-level content as a result. Besides, quest design is far, far more important to an RPG than level design. Fallout 4 has fucking abysmal quest design, whereas NV's is excellent. There's not a single moment in Fo4 that can compare to the unmarked interrogation quest in NV.

The way you'd learn new VATs attacks as your skill increased, could get them from perks as you level up, and get those 4 special real time special attacks as you play through the games quests was brilliant

It's all down to how Obsidian met the challenge of making weapon types viable without making you overpowered at the start, baby.

Every weapon type has an obvious starter which you can find or buy quite early on in the game, assuming Doc Mitchell didn't give it to you based on your character creation. And beyond that you can quickly find or buy the next step up from your current weapon. Then you have several different tiers and different branches, particularly with Guns and Energy Weapons (the Minigun and AMR are both in the same 100 Guns bracket, but are entirely different in functionality).

Bethesda's solution is the same as Fallout 3: limit how much ammo you get for certain weapons, like .45 or .308 until you cross a point where it starts handing the ammo types out like candy, same for certain weapon mods whenever it rolls random guns.

I swear to god, Fallout 4 has the worst scripting/pathfinding of all the Fallout (And possibly Elder Scrolls) series. Seriously, half of the time, when a friendly NPC is involved, they just end up getting stuck, walking endlessly in a wall, or outright disappear.

But I'm glad that at least the atmosphere felt right to me. There's traces of pre-war era everywhere, with countless interesting pre-war logs (And those implicit stories told by skeletons and items surrounding them), unlike that fucking retarded western movie atmosphere NV had.

That's the thing. After 200 years, you'd think that most of the valuable crap you find everywhere (Electronics, weapons/ammo, water, and fucking pre-war food) would have been totally looted, except for some rare, unexplored places.
Also, what rustled my jimmies was the fact that when you take a fusion core from its socket, nothing changes, everything in the building is still powered.
It would have been awesome to have to decide wether or not you take that fusion core from the very last room in that deep and dark bunker and have to go back in total darkness (Possibly giving the game a horror dimension. Imagine only the faint light of your Pip-Boy guiding you through ghoul-ridden corridors without being able to see past two meters in front of you.)
That would also make the use of power armor way more rare and valuable.

K niggers you guys got me wanting to really get into roleplaying in NV but I'm getting freezes whenever I leave a worldspace. Pic related is my mod list. Also using a repack of Poco Bueno's textures. I get pretty consistent 50+ fps with some stuttering but I put that to the engine.

if you havent found an instigating rifle yet then go to hubris comics. when i went there there was 4 legendary ghouls that dropped in 2 shots from a combat shotty, i killed them over and over and reloaded til i got a good legendary. ended up getting that rifle


also, did everyone in the thread know that all the crafting skills are utterly pointless? the weapon i use is an instigating .50 hunting rifle with a marksman stock, long range night scope (because recon is goody as fuck, have that on my otherwise identical .308 tho), quick release large mag, silencer. all that good shit

i got it by finding and buying individual weapons that had those parts on them, and then going to a work bench and swapping them for the base level no skill check versions, and then adding the good parts to my main rifle as adding parts, unlike making them, requires no check. same goes for armor and melee weapons

I loved having the designation as Courier from the beginning. Who wants to be fresh from the vault. I mean seriously. If Obsidian was told to handle a Vault-Dweller origin, they'd probably do it 10x better as well instead of me exploring the map, coming back with a gauss cannon and mid-tier armor only to ask "What's a super mutant" after I killed hundreds of them in the nearby city.

The variation is non-existent. For the majority of catagories, going down the list is an upgrade rather than altering the gun in a signficant way. You can change the ammo that's chambered, change it from semi-auto to auto to sniper, and then energy weapons can turn into plasma shotguns/snipers as well. If you really wanted to be generous, sure, you can call the Combat rifle 3 different weapons. Although why you can't just hit a button to switch it from semi to auto, who knows. Everything in FO4 is so barebones, its baffling what they did with their time.

The Dialogue system for fallout 4 is my biggest issue. That's just a personal preference though. I prefer to BE the character, not play as them.
the weapons in fallout 4 are not a huge issue for me. Gunplay was improved, and I usually only use a couple of guns in the fallout series anyway.
What they should have worked on was giving you more stuff to spend caps on, making the game world larger and more interesting and in depth, NPCs, AI, they should've kept skill points, and they should've made a more intuitive UI for PC users because the Pip-Boy interface is currently the worst I've ever seen even compared to Skyrim's UI.
