Are you fucking kidding me? Being so shit at programming that you need to resort to map-editor level hackjobs is pretty embarrasing
>>

>hurr durr lets implement a whole new system that we would have to lengthen the costs and time for the game to come out just for one scene

You're fucking retarded. You only experience this once in the game, and it works just as intended. You don't even know it's like that until you load up the fucking thing in an external program.

A man sees that a newspaper is having a pun contest. The rules are that you can write up to ten puns, send them in for free, and if any one of your puns are selected then you win a gift card. Thinking he's got a few good ones the man writes up the maximum allowable entries and submits them. The next week he opens up the paper to check the results page.

Alas, no pun in ten did.

In Portal 2 there's a special map entity that acts like an invisible portal of any size and lets you seamlessly link two areas together. They used it at least once in the base game, in an area where a large test chamber moves around and you have to enter it from under it.

Technology thread. Here's a list of games with some technology:

>Half Life 2 (physics, high interactivity, gravity gun)
>Cryostatsis (water, ice and snow effects: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHmcCVFhoTk)
>Metal Gear Solid series (lots of little touches, interactivity, funny stuff you can do)
>Starbreeze games (your character has a body and is a physical entity, not a floating gun, physics, high interactivity, dynamic lighting)
>Dark Messiah (again your character exists in the world, combat and physics)
>Crysis (destructibility, nanosuit, customization, lighting)
>Alone in the Dark (fire system, inventory, blinking, lots of interactivity)
>Max Payne games (lots of interactivity and physics)
>GTA IV/V (lots of interactivity and physics, lots of little touches and details)
>Call of Juarez (same as Dark Messiah)
>Trespasser (physics, being able to see your boobs)
>FEAR (details, particles, physics, slow-mo, seeing your body)
>Prey (lots of interactivity, portals)
>Hitman Blood Money (lots of interactivity and details)
>Flatout series/Next Car Game (car destruction)
>Red Faction series (destruction)
>Soldier of Fortune 2 (dismemberment and gore systems)
>Stranglehold (destruction)
>Wind Waker (http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=104415)
>Spintires (mud transforming, car physics)
>Overgrowth (colission, physics, fighting system)
>Metal Gear Solid Revengeance (choping shit up)

You'd have to program a new object that deals with the train movement. At the end of the day it's pointless and takes up space, and extra loading for something that will never be seen again (another example is the baby in the beginning being just a small version of you).

It's efficient programming.

>pre-rendered animation
lol, do you even know what pre-rendered means. The animation may be static and predetermined but it's still being rendered in real time, as is the lighting. Also, get off FEAR's dick. Cooler/better game != superior tech, Shadows Fall's lighting and shadowing is unquestionably more advanced.

TECHNOLOGY threads are great for pulling out the retards that don't know anything about tech.

You're right, I was being a retard. It's obviously real-time rendered. What I should have said is that it's just an animation, as opposed to a dynamic simulation of a melting object.

The "cubes closer melt slower" thing is just a myth, if that's what you mean. All the cubes melt at the same rate, but the bigger chunks disappear slower because they're bigger and it takes longer, duh. It has nothing to do with proximity to other cubes.

That makes me think
You know what would make a GREAT VR game?
40K: Guardsman
That way, even if there's no feedback, you can just say the gun is a laser and has no recoil.
I mean canonically, they added in fake recoil to the lasguns because soldiers were complaining, so you could say that the characters one broke.
I mean just imagine being part of a charge.
>>
>>317639305

Who's idea was that, anyways
The whole story was really fucking stupid
>>

it's pretty much common sense to know that.

the game would have to run at like 500 FPS for it to work like that
>>
>>317640103
You are right, but a lot of the things posted in TECHNOLOGY threads are not necessarily impressive simulations or technical achievement, just details you wouldn't expect them to bother with.

I mean the whole joke behind the TECHNOLOGY meme is that the wide-eyed player is attributing his surprise to games becoming more advanced without really knowing what's going on.
>>

>>
>>317635679
This isn't technology, this shit has existed since particle tails during the PS1 days.

>>317638962
This. All that happens is that the game slows the falling rain particles, so the tail gets shorter.
>>
>>317640436
The effect is exaggerated but having non-shiny tiles is perfectly acceptable and is actually a more natural way to show it. Indirect lighting is a real thing that happens, dude, turn off the lights and shine a flashlight at the wall of your room. My walls definitely aren't shiny but it still lights up the ceiling and floor quite a bit. Don't have any colored walls to prove the effect though.
>>
>>317640464

Compare destruction from the two games in detail and tell me Armageddon's isn't better. In Guerrilla everything is kind of made out of big chunks, it doesn't form much rubble when it collapses, and props like rebar spawn in weird places where they shouldn't.

I don't know about the story, it was fucking death-knell THQ. They were trying desperately to make the next big thing.
>>
>>317640436
The heck are you talking about. Things dont have to be shiny to reflect things. I dont know where you are going with this at all, at all.

>>
>>317619326
this is some antichamber shit right here
>>
>>317640820
No, it did have better destruction
But the game took place in 90% caves and it felt like a huge step backwards from guerilla.

The story is this
>terraformer gets fucked up by terrorists
>everyone has to go underground
>years later, martian bug things emerge because of mining or something
>we need to do something about this!
>go and fix the terraformer after a lot of bullshit
So everyone spent however many years undergound because the terraformer was broke, and then only after a ton of bullshit, do you go back to the terraformer and fix it, which takes all of ten seconds, which begs the question "Why didn't any of you fucking idiots just go fix the damn thing?"
>>
>>317640545
It's details that aren't usually present in a wide array of games. Shooting out a window commonly has effects on the surrounding, it's about as impressive as hitting a pedestrian with a car in GTA and took little attention to detail to pull off.

Maybe if the barrels actually melted in relation to the light it would be impressive, but they don't even do that. The side farthest away and facing opposite to the the light melts fastest, which is just lazy.

>>317643194
non-euclidean means that over a particular space two parallel lines do not stay parallel.

Math is done on a flat plane, where angles in a triangle add to 180 and parallel lines stay a constant distance away.

In hyperbolic geometry angles in a triangle sum to less than 180 and parallel lines get further apart.

In ellipsoid geometry angles in a triangle sum to over 180 and parallel lines eventually intersect.

Longitude and latitude lines on a map are one example of ellipsoid geometry, in that two parallel vertical lines crash into each other at the poles and that greenland is fucking huge.

Get your shit together before my autism is triggered further.
