If it gets funded great - there is still no obligation to produce a product if you don't want to. If it doesn't get funded then they've essentially lost nothing because it beats actually making a full game that nobody wants to buy.
Kickstarter has made it completely win-win for developers: if it gets funded you don't have to deliver, if it doesn't get funded you didn't waste your resources making something that wasn't going to sell anyways. Lots of video games lose money because they don't sell, Kickstarter has provided the opportunity to measure interest because unlike large companies, most studios cannot afford to commit the resources only to have the project flop on release.

It was never to gauge interest. It was to get nearly a third of the funding and for the publisher to actually agree to funding the rest. If this initial goal isn't passed, then it isn't happening. So unless you genuinely just don't understand how KS works, I don't see why you're complaining about the extension.

When devs make games, especially indie devs, they usually make a short prototype, or a short video, to give to publishers to show them what the game is going to be like. If they do hand them a piece of paper, it's usually a few pieces of paper with a bit of what the story will be like, characters that weren't shown, and other things like that so the publisher has an idea of where it'll go.
Lab Zero has essentially treated all of us like publishers, as they gave us a demonstration of what the game will be like, and have been drip-feeding us information about the characters and story. Unfortunately, consumers aren't publishers. They don't give a shit if it will be improved (which is what publishers generally know), especially with a small prototype. Publishers know that depth will eventually be added, and the prototype is generally pretty bare and is only a representation of the gameplay of the final product.
Consumers do though. They care that the gameplay isn't that deep, they care that the abilities don't have a lot of weight, and they care about animations that were quickly done. And most of them won't care enough to do some research once they've finished playing the prototype.

Professional musicians ask for professional rates. Those can range from $2-4k, depending on the musician's equipment, the style of music they're requested to make, and any other expenses they need to pay for (like utilities). It's a different league from asking a teenager at Newgrounds to make your music for exposure.

Valkyrie Profile was a great game that nobody cared about. We were too busy wanking over Final Fantasy at the time - Final Fantasy didn't need more masturbation. What we failed to do collectively was ensure that the later generation would find games like Valkyrie Profile, Secret of Evermore, or Planescape Torment. They're going to find Final Fantasy and Earthbound on their own.

I didn't like VP simply because it had basic 2D platforming and a bit different combat system. Those parts are also more shallow in Indivisible.
The character designs are also very very bad in this game. Only the protag has a good design. They're not even remotely reminicent of VP nor are they of high quality.
If it actually WAS a blatant VP rip-off I would be more interested.
