THIS. FUCKING. PSYCOPATH.
>>
>>317575268
who is this rogue looking motherfucker?
>>
>>317575268
but he's not wrong
>>
All of the factions are a bunch of psychopaths.

Bethesda can't write characters with interesting goals and motivations for shit.
>>
>>317575343
Even the minute men?
>>
HE DID NOTHING WRONG

SYNTHS ARE MACHINES NOT PEOPLE.
>>
>>317575479
The Minutemen are the only faction that is normal....and that is why they are the backup faction.

Strange how you are forced into leading them...would be interesting to have a true independent ending in which you do everything solo.
>>
Is there a way to destroy everybody? I pretty much turned against the Brotherhood with the Danse stuff. The Institute are incredibly retarded and don't give a shit about people in the Commonwealth, The Railroad are just shit from head to toe, and the Minutemen don't seem to be anything, what's their purpose?
>>
>>317575479
The minute men are just dudes, literally nothing going for them, except a little shitty "Castle."

To give the player a way of actually ending the game that doesn't require any of the other factions. They are dull, but they are the best bet, both flavor wise, and completion wise.

Except they even state in universe that you can't tell. The only reason they caught The diamond city mayor was because he took a few rounds to the chest and shrugged it off.

Blade Runner replicants aren't robots though. They're like genetically engineered humans, still real flesh and organs.

4th Gen Synths are practically human down to having a skeletal system, nerves and muscles. That's why it's so hard to identify them as synths.

It's like Bethesda listened to the people who were unhappy with the Brotherhood's portrayal in FO3, but swung too far in the opposite direction. They're supposed to be selfish, isolationist assholes; not shining knights of the Wasteland or genocidal bigots.

I must be retarded, because I just don't get the Institute at all. What the fuck are they even trying to accomplish?

How about they spend their efforts on actually helping people rather than robots who are not people?

kindest thing to do is to just destroy all synths. For their own good too.
>>
>Spend a large chunk of the game fighting Synths

>The institute wants to replace humans with synths
>They even make a synth version of your son

Synths deserve what they have coming. Valentine was the only Synth i trusted, and even he starts acting weird after he helps you access Kelloggs memories. I stopped letting him tag along after that

Do you have to do all those sidequests to progress? I only did a few missions and I think I'm stuck at something like "ask Drummer Boy something-something"
>>
>>317577207
Yes, but Railroad and BoS have continuous goals - freeing all synths from slavery. BoS used to have a decent goal ("preserve technology, help the wastelanders") that became insane.

The Institute just kind of has no goal except.. staying alive underground and developing shit? Like why is this only possible underground? Why do they need synths for relatively simple food research? What?
>>
>>317577290
It should be kind of obvious which the radiant (i.e. randomly generated) quests are, which include the DIA cache getting, the Weathervane quests, that kinda thing. They keep repeating (I'm pretty sure it's not endless, but it is a lot and it's optional). I think you need to do one of each to get a few new quests, and after that it mostly ties in with the main storyline.
>>
>>317575614
Kinda... they also don't do a fucking thing. Really they're there for pussies to choose because even if you side with them "because they're normal" you still end up destroying the Institute. The game makes the choice for you, you just feel like it's the better one because Preston told you to.

Every faction in this game fucking sucked.
>>
Does anyone else have people in their settlements they can't command? Mccready and Sturges won't do shit. The option for command doesn't even come up.
>>
>>317577364
>Yes, but Railroad and BoS have continuous goals - freeing all synths from slavery

That is not the goal of BoS. They want to destroy all mutants, and safeguard all technology. Synths are mutants in their eyes.
>>
>>317577449

>wanting to save humanity from degradation, disease, starvation, aging, mortality, and the effects of nuclear fallout
>converting humans into immortal synthetic lifeforms to exist in a pure state of transcendant electronic bliss
>superior brain and physiology, able to learn anything, able to be anyone, able to live forever, without deformity
>paraplegics now can walk, amputees now will have new limbs, burned alive people will have new bodies, even ghouls can become new humans again, intelligent robots can become human

If you didn't pick the Institute to side with you literally fuck up your entire life pham.

If I could transfer my shitty physical body into a superior synth body I'd do it in a motherfucking heartbeat. I don't give a shit if I'd have to be a slave for awhile.

You mean you didn't take emotional baggage in a physical form?

I had no reason to care about Shaun at any point in this game. I think it was ok as far as a vehicle to move the story along, but Bethesda's classic mediocre story writing never lifts it above what it is, meh.

The entire game funnels you into joining the BoS, it is very likely going to be the first faction you run into because while doing the Graygarden quest for the minutemen you hit Danse's signal and auto-fucking-matically pick up the quest to start the chain of events that lead you to see a giant blimp with never ending VTOL death machines.
Why the fuck would you join a bunch of peasants or some terminal huggers in a basement after seeing that? Furthermore once you run into the institute their self guided tour quest doesnt give you any fucking reason to side with them besides LOOK AT ALL THIS SLICK SHIT WE HAVE [spoilers]plzdontlookatourFEV[/spoilers]!!!!

Besides it's bad story, dialogue, and use of an engine thats showing its age terribly there are some enjoyable things. For me it was a definite world improvement over F3's randomly generated flat landscape.

This game is ok/10, I'll buy it when its down to what I feel its worth, $20.

Institute is the intellectual's choice. The only flaw with the Institute is it's leadership.

I am thinking about it. And my answer remains the same.
A copy of me is still me. To believe otherwise is to believe there's more to the human consciousness than a complex collection of electric signals inside a biological computer. Which I do not.
>>
>>317578836
No. Consciousness is preserved when you go to sleep. You are operating on an incredibly binary and incorrect understanding of consciousness. Stop that.

The process being discussed is death. Not sleep. You die and a thing wakes up with your memories. You are not that thing. You died. In fact that thing can and does exist alongside you. Go watch Art murder Art out in Boston. Your consciousness is not required for the copy to operate. You do not continue when it kills you. You die. Just like it does not continue when you kill it. It dies. The two Arts are separate entities with shared memories. They are not a contiguous consciousness.

Death is not the same as sleep. Death is a true loss of consciousness. When the brain is sufficiently shut down to the point that consciousness can not be retrieved, it has died. Sleep is not this process at all.

You're operating under the assumption that I for some reason care which consciousness came first.
Art versus Art is a perfect example. No matter which Art wins, they both react the same way. They mourn the fact that they had to kill their copy, and well they should. But both of them are still Art

you don't get a huge tour of the institute, but a contained area for the sake of not giving it all away at the start. there should be a hint of something sinister, though, so that everyone's worries about the institute make sense.

>>
>>317579153
Yeah sure, if it's a 100% perfect copy.
But there are no '100% perfect's in the universe. Perhaps the lack of one is the only one to exist. Even if the copy is 99.99999% identical, it is still a different consciousness, nevermind -actually having two separate physical bodies means you have two separate individual consciousnesses-. Unless you're constantly streaming & updating your consciousness, and not allowing it to think on its own, it's a separate entity. And even if you are, that's only temporary, and you may be creating an ethical quandary by overriding what that consciousness would otherwise do with your constant streaming & overwriting.
>>
>>317578495
Even if you viewed identical memories as the only thing necessary to be the same thing, the instant it's copied it begins creating new thoughts from its new experiences that weren't and aren't yours because its a separate entity with a separate existence. The very moment it gains consciousness, it is immediately different from you.

It could help to look at it as copy/paste and cut/paste. If someone created a copy of you, and pasted it, there would exist two of you simultaneously. No one at all would argue that they're the same person, regardless of having identical memories because they obviously exist separately and you can see that they're currently creating new memories and experiencing new things independent of each other. However, people get confused when it comes to cut/paste because the old entity is destroyed. Functionally nothing is different though, one is a copy that is a new entity and the old entity is simply dead. The new entity doesn't have to be aware of what happened, and it doesn't matter that it happened because they *believe* they're the same person, but in actuality they aren't. It does matter to the old entity though, because they no longer exist.
>>
>>317579345
For the outside perspective which came first is less meaningful. Even in another context there is room for entertaining the validity of both entities' continued existence. (I am pro synth) But for this discussion regarding the nature of consciousness and man continuing by the means described, it very much matters which came first because You are only one of them.

You are not the copy. You never will be. A new person is born with your memories. There is no more You when You are murdered, even if by your doppelganger. Both Arts are valid, and that supports what I am saying more than it helps you. That first Art does not deserve to be murdered by a guy who is just like him. Neither deserves to be snuffed out. And that is exactly what happens. One is snuffed. Ended. No more consciousness. Both were valid and neither benefit from the other being ended prematurely because they are not continued by the other.
>>
So what I wanna know is in terms of carrying capacity, which is better for armour?
Ultra-Lightweight or whatever the best pockets one is called?
>>
>>317579137
>But what's the difference between the two consciousnesses?
The difference is one is you and one is someone else.

>If they are 100% copies of each other why does it matter if it's "you" or not?
It should matter to YOU, no one else cares if either dies. But one of these will affect you, and the other won't in the sense of your continued survival. If your goal is to grant immortality to your consciousness the copy does nothing for you. If your goal is have a copy of you go on living so that it can affect the world around you in your name then go ahead. But copy pasting your memories does not prolong the life of your consciousness, it is a new and separate entity that shares your memories. It will believe it is you, but the consciousness in that body will not be the one you are experiencing at this moment. The YOU reading this will have died still.

Deep pockets is far better for carrying capacity. +10 carrying weight is more valuable than taking something that weighs like 10 pounds and cutting off 5. On chest, it's +20, and even decked out combat armor is only like 15 pounds saving you 7.5 vs 20.

I think the point of light-weight is for sneaking. Heavier armor is supposed to make you more and more noticeable. Armor weight might be a factor is vats cost for sprinting as well, I don't remember.

>Video games are not evidence to anything in the real world. Are you for real, man?

>soma devs are the first people to make researches/thesis on the subject

It's just a /v/-related illustration.

They started making those assassins when people above ground started kidnapping their own synths.

Meanwhile the institute is reaserching the fev and radiation effects and how to reverse it, engineering plants so they can repopulate the place with food and more. But hey, you can conviniently ignore those parts to suite your argument.

Any more proofs than "another video game"?

I've seen the Fly, and every other sci-fi on teleportation/transferrence into android bodies to not be afraid of "the jump"

>You can't transfer consciousness
>only make a copy of it to another body

What the hells the difference retard? A copy is a transfer, or has to be transferred at some point

You literally are retarded

>it's about avoiding the horror of death

Bro, you were born in a fucked up, weak genetic temporary meat shell, that will wither away and die inevitably, your DNA will unspiral, your body will age, you will die

Whether you're afraid of it or not, transferring your consciousness (making a copy whatever) is the best hope of living on after death you've got

Should be grateful that that kind of technology exists, and stop being a pussy

>What the hells the difference retard?

The difference is that you're still in your original body and the synth you'll meet will be "you" only for a short amount of time.

I don't think you'd behave the same if you were suddenly a synth.

Next synth I kill, I'm gonna think of you.

>These retards in here who think having a synth doppleganger means you somehow live forever
You guys are the idiots who shoot themselves in the brain scan chair thinking that would mean living again.
>>
how do you get the armor layers with shoulder guards?
>>
>>317580848

Transfer: Take A and put it from place X to place Y
You now only have one A in Y
Copy: Take A and copy it from X to Y
You now have two A one in X and one in Y

If you are too retarded to know what the difference is please remove yourself from the gene pool.

They kidnapped people and dipped them into FEV vats. Then they killed most of them or released them into the Commonwealth, allowing them to do whatever the fuck they wanted.
Also reminder that Bioscience plans to kill and replace a farmer with a Synth, to test crops. After the test, they plan to kill the farmer's family and demolish the farm and all evidence of it.

These people are stupid evil.

>The horror of changing your body! Aaaahhhhhh!

I don't get this irrational fear

>OMG U DIE AHHHHHHHHH
