Dude if you pay attention to the higher level male NPCs around level 15-18 they teach you the secrets to avoiding the nightmare mode and you still get access to the opinions and hobbies perk trees. The main difficulty then is overcoming the age-comprehension skill check for friendships. I've fucked up though; my NPC grandfather was a stonemason and I missed my window to join.

it was called off though, the devs realised that the player base prefers the more grindy PvE and day to day aspects of the game at the time and that it also got them a higher cash yield over time

You need 2 existing characters to get together, then they register a character for you
AND THEN you wait another fucking 9 months for the server to generate your character, AND assuming the character is generated successfully you don't even get to fucking decide any aspect of your character

the servers are already packed anon, they have to do this to stop over population
in the earliest builds the dev was able to instantly spawn new PCs using a rib or other bits of the existing PCs, and also make female PCs spawn news ones just by talking to them
but they removed all that shit because the first time introduced the female class, which is completely broken, it can win the game with a sold CHA roll on spawn ffs. and the other time the PC that was created was the catalyst for the religious wars DLC that is still going on. he also respawned himself, he duped 5000 fish one time, he would hack water to make it into wine. it was bullshit.
only certain aquatic animal races can spontaneously create additional PCs now, but theyre shit

You can still invest into certain stats and skills even if your appearance and base stats are randomly pre-determined. Too bad it takes fucking YEARS of grinding to boost any of them, your character is literally worthless without high Charisma and like 3/4 of skills are trap options. it all started ages ago with the first game and their stat and characteristics gets mixed and it's assigned to a new player. With little customization with such scars, hair and clothing available. Even going to the npc that can change your appearance kinda sucks also cost TONS of gold. If you rolled a female character and try to change your breasts a bit it just fucks up the game physics so badly. Worst part for those players that picked the wrong gender, you have to pay so much gold it is crazy and it is barely convincing on the majority of them.
Anyways customization is shit. The community is really bad esp around level 6-18. Bc mods doesn't seem to give a shit about gankings in non-PvP areas.

well picking sex is like a risk-reward thing. males are high-risk high-reward with stuff like crazier jobs, better strength and weightlifting, job progression, but females tend to get free gold and xp, less grind and if they manage mistype the "suicide" in console somehow, they get like 3 NPCs to help them instantly
