Has Metal Gear conditioned anyone else to fucking abhor these things? Like, I have a serious ethical problem with these things just being around, and I tried picking one up but immediately had to drop it. I don't care how good the fatman is.

Look what these fucking things did to the world, why would I use one?

>I tried picking one up but immediately had to drop it

Why? So some super mutant can use it? You should have took that shit back to vault 111 and locked it up in there so it was buried. At least there you know that shit is safe. Your inactivity in handling the mininukes is just as bad as the people that use the fat man.

Way to be an enabler, you shitmop.
>>
>Not hoarding all nuclear-related objects and storing them out of everyone elses reach
>>
>>317518360
I sell them cause I love money. Also whatever makes less super mutants run at me holding them jesus christ fucking help me.
>>
I only ever used the Fat Man against Super Mutant Overlords in 3 because they are annoying as fuck damage sponges that otherwise take 5 minute constant streams of bullets to take down MEANWHILE your wasting your supply of Stimpaks just so you don't die because FOR SOME REASON when they wield Lazer Rifles it does a fuckton more damage then you will ever do wielding it.

Fuck, even the Behemoths are easier to take down because they're dumb as fuck. Yes I'm mad, and yes the Overlords still piss me off.

It's funny, because in Fallout 1, even the fucking terrifying hive mind abomination Master refused to use nukes as a weapon for MORAL reasons.

"This is our Master's weapon of last resort. If we find an enemy we cannot defeat in battle, then we will destroy them with this. But I doubt this will ever happen. Even our Master does not want to unleash the dreaded power of the atom again!"

And then by Fallout 3 you go around nuking everything with mini-nukes and the megaton bomb while HACKIN AND WHACKIN AND SMACKIN is playing in the fucking background
>>
>>317518360
But Metal Gear doesn't really even show the impacts of the Nuclear arsenal, the furthest it ever got was deterrence. I mean, they used a bloody Davy Crockett in MGS3 and its effects are barely shown anywhere in the game.
>>
>>317519717
Well, yeah. Bethesda fundamentally misunderstood the tone of the games.

Because Bethesda had to go full on lol whacky and introduce fucking nuclear catapults.

Not even some type of Davey Crockett knock-off or anything, a fucking shoulder fired catapult. For nuclear weapons.

Not to mention Bethesda was under the impression that the Great War was fought with fucking WW2 style fatman/littleboy type bombs instead of goddamn nuclear ICBMs. Because lol whacky 50s setting.

>>
>>317520003
If they had waited just a bit longer, it's quite possible fusion reactors could have become efficient enough to be mainstream and therefore eliminate the issue the war was being fought over

That being said, I doubt conventional warfare would have the same impact on the planet as Fallout's ridiculous amount of ICBM neutron bombs
>>
>>317520471
If we're going down this route with the amount of shit that got nuked there should be a lot less buildings standing and random foot items/whatnot sitting around unharmed.
>>
>>317518360

>>
>>317520471
When I sided with the brotherhood I actually got a little perturbed at the fact that Liberty Prime was literally just pulling an infinite amount of nukes from his back that were the size of a smart-car, and whipping them at the ground in front of us. Like holy shit what the fuck is going on who thought a shitty escort mission was what I wanted to finish this bullshit story arc with the worst faction in any game. Christ
>>

>>
Why was the bomb in Megaton a fatman style bomb? And why does it have a logo on it that looks sorta like the Vault-tec logo?

Did Beth forget that ICBMs were used in the Great War? And that the Great War didn't happen in the goddamn 50s?

Did they seriously try and have a fucking Chinese bomber cross the entire continental US to manually deliver a fucking antique nuclear weapon that is over 100 years outdated by that point? And the bomb doesn't even explode but still produces a fucking massive crater?

>>
>>317520349

I don't think a nuke launcher is out of place in the Fallout universe, or Liberty Prime for the matter. The game is very clearly a parody of 1950s jingoism and that stuff fits perfectly. The realism argument goes out of the window when you have shit like radiation turning people into zombies.

What is out of place however is how despite the destruction nukes caused no one seems to have a problem with using them. The BoS in Fallout 4 sit and rant about how they need to destroy synths because of the harm they can cause humanity but they have no problem nuking the shit out of Boston with an arsenal of nuclear warheads and a giant robot? The same BoS who hate wastelanders because they don't want irradiated DNA in their ranks?

Bethesda are just shitty writers. There's no reason in a post-apocalyptic world all the organised factions like the BoS and the Enclave would be using weapons of mass destruction. Even in the previous games the most evil factions had more sound motives. The Master's Army wanted to evolve everyone into super mutants so humanity could thrive on an irradiated world, while Caesar's Legion just wanted Hoover Dam to power their infrastructure. The only faction that should reasonably want to use shit like nukes are raiders or dumbfuck tribals.

A giant communist hating robot held under the Pentagon fits into deus ex, not fallout.

Contrast the Master to liberty prime. One of these were obviously made for children raised on memes, and created by people who didn't understand the franchise they'd bought.

Can you guess which?

Speaking of the Master, he wouldn't ever appear in a Falloutscrolls game. He's too sophisticated and mature for Bethesda's target audience.

And you get a suitably fallout narration if you actually launch the nukes. The player character voices disbelief about nuclear missiles.

The NPC who has them calls them 'America's voice.' He had to 'speak to history' to even be convinced that they existed.

It's not a casual nuke catapult that any random raider can pull out their ass.

Shit is cancer. Worse is when you wear power armor and a missile/fat man instantly destroys most of the pieces.

While I don't want to advocate making the game easier than it already is, I think explosive damage needs to be toned down. At the same time, up the damage of all weapons, so that enemy humanoids always die in 1-3 headshots based upon weapon, and you die in a few shots too.

Debatable. I can see a handheld nuclear device thanks to Fallout's general obsession with nukes prewar. I can see some american general going "OKAY, SO WHAT WE NEED ARE SMALL NUKES THAT CAN DESTROY REGIMENTS AND BUNKERS, BUT NOT OUR GUYS. EGGHEADS, GET ON IT"

>Or Liberty Prime

No, not even close. Not even a little. It maks no sense at all. Giant Robot's are not a 50's thing. That is more of an 80's or 90's idea of having a giant robot fight wars for you. Robots in the 50's are like Mr Handy's, where we thought robots would eventually do everything for us.

And even if you take it out of what generally fits in Fallout, Liberty Prime is so fucking stupid. The idea alone pisses me off, it sounds like some fan-fiction bullshit.

I mean a mini nuke should be more than just a big explosion. You're destroying stuff at the cellular level, I'm expecting nuclear weapons to be both rarer and much, much more deadly.

Crysis did the nukes right imo, all you need is add a fuckton of radiation so if you were to pass by the area where you used the nuke youd die after a few seconds.

Also nukes are the main reason why WW3 didnt break out and probably won't.

>People think Fatman launchers make no sense

Seriously? The game is set in the 50's. In the 50's, the world is obsessed with nukes. They put nuclear material IN FUCKING FACIAL CREAMS IN REAL LIFE. The alarm clocks have nuclear material in them. There are sodas named after nukes. Cars were nuclear powered. There is plenty of precedence to developing small nukes for use by infantry.

That doesn't mean that they should be as prevalent as they are, of course. The Fatman should be extremely rare, only used by a few enemies, and the ammo should be even rarer. Like coming across 10-12 in a whole play through.

Instead you find tons of fatmen and like 100 nukes.

Except no. Even in FO1 and FO2 military technology progressed and advanced similarly to ours. Automatic shotguns developed in the 80s are explicitly mentioned and present.

I'll give you a hint: the Great War nukes weren't used in bombers like in WW2. They were on nuclear ICBMs. There is a good reason the Great War only lasted a few hours.

The major technological divergence in the Fallout universe was that they never developed microchips and other miniaturization technologies. That is why the Platinum Chip in New Vegas was such a huge deal; it was the beginning of microchip technology and miniaturization brought forth by House.

That, and man portable nuclear launchers are a real thing deployed (but obviously never used) in the 50s. It doesn't seem so silly that if the 50s mindset remained into the future that a handheld version would be looked into at some point.

The idea for nuclear ICMBs was around before WW2 ended. I remember there was some talk of trying to strap nuclear bombs to the V2 rockets Germany was using. Those being developed are not out of the question.

And it's less about what technology is present, but instead how it is applied. They have advanced robotics that are used to make what are essentially robotic maids and butlers, because that was an idea of the 50's, robots taking care of everything. Nuclear power is used in cars and everything else (though they also had the justification of fuel running out), because Nuclear power was seen as the future in the 50's.

The culture as well is incredibly similar to 50's america. The language used, the red scare, the patriotism. It's definitely 50's america, in the future.

Obviously, as human beings, we're not going to be able to know what would happen if America kept on it's path in the 50's, but they've tried to emulate some of it.

They weren't man portable, and it wasn't some retarded catapult that shot it 20 yards. A tactical nuke is still going to have a massive blast radius, the mini nukes in 3/4 are smaller than a 250 conventional bomb, which were commonly dropped from fighters during WW2.

I'm assuming you're talking about the Davey Crocket system, which wasn't somethign one guy would carry around, and he didn't launch it from his shoulder. How the hell was gas for poor people pre-war? It was ridiculously expensive because the world was running out of petroleum.

The fallout universe fears nukes, and for good reason. They wouldn't employ shoulder firing catapults to nuke each other's raider settlement.

Even if they had the technology, it would be exclusive to forces like the master's army, the brotherhood, and the enclave, and they wouldn't want to use it, either. See the master's views on using the nuke he actually does have.

It's Bethesda being stupid.

>fallout is about nukes and a 'what if' future, as it would have happened if the 50s were different.
>so it's 50s music forever, 50s propaganda, communists, nukes, and every game has to be about water and bottlecaps.
>forever.

Bethesda are retarded, and you're retarded too, anon. Go fuck yourself.

Thanks anon, I was super concerned with the scientific validity of shit that happens in fallout.

Because they keep getting truckloads of money despite being incompetent and awful. Why improve or change at all if you're getting rich as fuck?

If you liked fallout 3 its impossible not to like this one which puts me in a bit of an awkward position since I fucking hated fallout 3 but I like this one

Seriously though bethesda abandoning their stupid attempts to make an RPG are for the best, skills in fo3 were basically just the same as the perks, could max them all out easily and speech was still random chance you could save scum

The only difference now is that there isn't a lot of dialogue (which lets be fucking real, always sucks in bethesda game since their writing is illiterate vietcong tier), its basically the same amount you'd get in a standard story driven shooter, but you get to pick some meaningless replies, and the gunplay is vastly improved to their previous showing

Imo just pirate it, I put 30 hours into it and I'm not even ashamed because they cut so many corners

Do you have an ethical problem with flamethrowers too? Or is just because you fear the big bad nuclear boogie man?

I mean gas cars were low quality shit compared to american nuclear powered cars.
Same with generators.
Obviously it was expensive, it's expensive now too, I was talking relatively, and frankly if I were to make a nuclear-powered car right now it would make a gas powered car look cheap by comparison.
