DoA5 wasn't even playable or balanced or functional without constant glitches until Ultimate, and even then the best thing Ultimate could offer were returning the characters they intentionally left out from vanilla and adding in the entire back catalogue of character themes from the other games cause all they made for DOA5 were a couple really boring and repetitive stage themes.

The way to fix DoA4 for a more promising DoA5 would have been reducing hold damage just a bit. DoA5's actual way of doing it was making stun delay slightly longer, making holds more baitable (to the point of being obvious enough to encourage the defender to not hold at all), while making them weaker in general. This is bad because there are more characters in DOA than just the fast-hitters, which this stun delay only benefits them alone as slower characters and grapple characters don't see the same return in guaranteed follow up hits and don't get the opportunities to capitalize on their throws since the opponent is less likely to hold.
DoA5 is fucking broken and all four variations of it never improved this simple fundamental flaw in the game design which you would had to never played a DoA game in your life to overlook.
