I'm sure it's balance reasons. They don't want to have to make encounters that deal with 8 heroes at once. And there are others depending on the type of game.
In RPGs like Mass Effect which take place on the "real" world map and in doors, there's probably space concerns. And the player would have to manage them all. At a certain point, it basically just becomes an SRPG like Fire Emblem or something like XCOM and Valkyria Chronicles. Not bad, but another genre. Tying into that, especially if it's turn based, more party members in a battle would no doubt begin to make every fight longer. Again, it eventually becomes something on the scale of SRPGs or TRPGs where each battle is taking upwards of an hour.

From didn't want to worry that much about the story so they gave the player hints and follow ups and many puzzles so the player can put, together the story in his own little way. i never said it had a deep story but, the story is very "eerie" and anti-climactic yet, I do see your point.

Open world wrpgs like TES games are also shit. No need to try and call games you think I like shit, anon. The Witcher games are better RPGs than the recent TES games but I don't see why people like them so much.
I guess I can see why you might pinpoint a single facet of western RPGs to try and insult to get at me as I may be doing the same thing. When I think JRPG I think games like Final Fantasy as those seem to be the most talked about types of JRPGs. Dark Souls is obviously much different than the standard JRPG and if Fire Emblem counts as an RPG then it's fairly different as well.

And yet they have crappier stories, forgettable characters, ugly art styles aimed at the "muh realism" crowd, and are more casual than tactical. Only exception is Witcher series. Fallout got buttfucked hard by Bethesda. Damn shame to cause it had a great lore but otherwise suffered the same like the rest of wrpgs. The genre just flat out sucks stop pretending its good.
