It was never good to begin with, and it was getting raped starting with 2 if we really want to be honest here (which I doubt).

Yes, we should.

I love that power armor design.

aren't cats supposed to be extinct? Cos they're in fallout 4.

>playing fallout 4
>get audio tape near first suit of power armor at beginning of game
>guy says his vertibird was downed by emp, which should've occurred just before shockwave hit
>shockwave hit the vault, so presumably it would've hit Concord less than a mile away
>noone in squad dies from shockwave
>people in squad are killed by desperate survivors who should be dead due to radiation
>guy on tape talks about walking to Boston, despite that he is outside and should be dead due to radiation

How did someone read that and say, yeah, that makes sense

Do we know what ending is canon from New Vegas yet? BoS mentioned Citadel so I assume it wasn't blown up.

Why aren't there any Vault cities on the east coast?

Why are there so many Vertibirds when they were a prototype?

Why does Jet now exist pre-war?

By the times the bomb dropped, The world is basically completely fucked, a single magazine costs $35, food is basically impossible to buy, there are mass riots and looting, you even see in Fallout 4 in game military checkpoints were handing out rationed food... so why is the Pre-war so rosy when you're actually in it when it's basically post-apoc by the times the bombs are falling anyway?
>>
>>317410712
Literally the first comment is going to start another FO4 hate thread.
>>
>>317410903
>jet is pre war

Wait wat

How does Bethesda pay so much attention to detail in certain small things, and then completely fuck up basic shit like that?
>>
So we know that in the NCR they build villages and new cities, but do they ever attempt to full refurbish certain buildings like A sky scraper or a big block of apartments? Or would that just be considered future scraping projects?
>>
>>317411191
How is there still edible pre-war food on every other table you visit after 200 years?
>>
>>317411257

If I'm not mistaken NV isn't cannon period.

>>317410903

When do we see it as a pre war chem?
>>
>>317411257
I'll suspect neutral (Mr House) or NCR end with Legion falling back to the east.
>>

>How does Bethesda pay so much attention to detail in certain small things
Like what?
>>
>>317411191
There were survivors from the initial blast. That's not too far fetched, since the same happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The vault-tec guy from the start of the game also survives the blast, despite being locked out of the vault.
>>
>>317411273
I didn't think about that kek, the intro video literally talks about looting and yet your little community is perfect and safe

Ok so I can't remember exactly what off the top of my head right now, but there's been moments where I notice certain cool details that I would've never thought to include which obviously would take some measure of time and effort to code in. And then on the other hand they just rewrite the origin of jet without a single thought. Just odd.

They pay attention to certain things and ignore others. If you get Cait to kick drugs, she calls you a hypocrite for using them.

In Fallout 3, when you find the AntAgonizer and the Mechanist, you can tell the AntAgonizer about the comic book she based her character off of. You can only do this if you read a certain terminal in the comic book factory in the DC ruins.

Couple examples.
>>
>>317412167
So that they could box him up and freeze him for two hundred years, I'm guessing. Maybe Sanctuary was built more for the vault, than the reverse. Seen as how practically everyone living in Sanctuary had space in the vault.

>>
>>317412167
Presumably you got preferential treatment as a veteran, the same way you got into Vault 111 (besides narrative convenience)

>>317412383
or this makes more sense
>>
>>317412326
Oh, and if you have Jericho in your party in fallout 3, I think he will cough from time to time and complain about you running E everywhere because he used to smoke a lot. Cool stuff like that, and then they screw up other things. It's infuriating.
>>
Does the game explain why there is so much cola quantum in Boston? I thought that was produced in very small numbers, and only shipped hours before the bombs hit.
>>
Just because we saw no cats in the original two it means they are extinct.

And no, the world of a single girl peasant its not the word of God.
>>
I'm really enjoying FO4 but does anyone get the feeling the 'dungeons' aren't quite as interesting this time around?

I feel like the computers don't have as fulfilling or information and aren't as fleshed out.

Maybe I'm just older and lost my imagination
>>
I called bullshit when Jet appeared in Fallout 3. You do know how near impossible it is to cross the country? You need to fly over the super storms. Only the BoS and Enclave could realistically do it. And they wouldn't bring Jet with them.
>>
>>317412464
>>317412618
It's not like Vault-tec has shown to give any thought to social status or class. They killed the US elite of musicians in one vault, and the presumably highly qualified scientists in vault 111 were apparently disposable.
>>
>>317412603
There it's settled finally. Jet is now a pre war chem
>>
>>317410856
Yes
>>
>>317412603

Some tired interns probably designed that vault and it slipped through the cracks, but that's lame. The origins of Jet should be something the writers know considering I have 42 of them
>>

>considering I have 42 of them
Todd?
>>
>>317410642
Why don't the Vault Dweller or the Chosen One need Power Armor training?
>>
>>317412758
I found my issue with dungeons were the fact that loot was the same no matter where you went, since they practically removed unique guns from the game. Also, many distinguishing locations, didn't feel like they had any fun in them. Vault headquarters is pretty barren, and so was the national guard training yard, and the corvega factory.
>>
>>317412836
But it's not. It's never supposed to be a pre-war drug unless we go by something similar to it.

I think the locations are much better than fallout 3 (which were pretty damn bad for the most part) but either on the level or slightly worse than new vegas.

A ton of the locations are cool as fuck but make absolutely no sense. NV it all made sense, and was also pretty cool.
>>
>>317413015
You don't get what he's saying. Bethesda has a canon journal entry of a pre-war person mentioning Jet. That means they fucked up the lore and Jet had to exist pre-war now.
>>
>>317412795

Dude are you stupid? Once a drug is created it's not that hard to recreate once the chemicals are known. Do you think it needs to come from the original fucking source or something?

> By putting tons of brahmin shit in the vats, we found out that the fumes give more than enough of a kick. Eureka. Literally. 'Course, we had to test to get the mix right'".

Yeah because that method can't be passed by word of mouth.

Grasping for straws senpai
>>
>>317411308

the pre-war technology was pretty advanced and long lasting food was produced in mass quantities, what do you think the Vault dwellers eat, their purified feces?

To have word of mouth you have to have people who know how to make Jet CROSS THE COUNTRY. BoS and Enclave weren't big into Jet use.

Myron was the only one who knew how to make it though, that's the main reason the That gang in New Reno kept him alive kept him alive

>Because Bethesda want Fallout to be post-apocalyptic

more like they want fallout to be apocalyptic when it's POST-apocalyptic since fallout 1

what people seem to fail to grasp is that the whole fluff of the bombs and the war was just an expedient of the original developers to create a setting in which you would be able to explore a compelling "what if" scenario in a role playing model that could be experienced only with video game medium, they were literally applying table top rules ot the thing, even went as far as to make a fallout bible.

Walter in the warehouse just told me we received a massive shipment marked "Vault 111 - DO NOT OPEN". So, he opened it...and it was hundreds of gallons of liquid nitrogen! What could they possibly need that for?

they know liquid nitrogen boils at room temp and will explode if contained, right?

The Encalve had several private vaults. They lost maybe half of their people after FO2, if that. More than enough to reorganize.

Why they went East and made their new president a damn calculator is what bothers me.

Is it only me that thinks that FO4 has raped the series? It's not an RPG anymore. FO 3 and NV were already pushing it to borderline FPS, but FO4 just went full shooter. It's a decent game, but it feels dumbed down.

>>
>>317414309
honestly dunwich is the only intriguing shit they have going for them so.. yeah.

FO3 they had Dunwich and the railroad. Both interesting and new story. Unsurprisingly, they made FO4 about.. the railroad and dunwich showed up too.
>>
>>317414383
Feels dumbed down in the rpg aspects, but I found the worst crime to be how you practically can't ask for backstory anymore. Almost all lines of dialogue feel focused on the present, and the task at hand, leaving little for you to question about the past or the inner workings of things.
>>
>>317414029

Why do people assume they went east? I figured they had guys in the east anyway considering DC and Langley are right there. And Eden being president was probably more because they had succession by bloodline instead of elections, after Dick Richardson died they didn't have a true successor to the presidency.

There was an fev vault in 3

Muties captured people and would dunk them in the fev

It's literally part of the main storyline
>>
>>317414630
If I remember correctly, the US was friendly with the USSR only on a "secret" government level. On a public level, they were subjected to the same propaganda as the Chinese were.

I assume they didn't have any reason to be mad at the Soviet Union, since they didn't contest the last oil resources. China on the other hand, decided they should have a slice of the pie.
>>
>>317414630

Nothing I can remember, but by that token you don't have a million useless terminals to read either. Most of the story is from people living in the modern day and not snippets of pre-war life. I haven't played 2 in a while though, but I'd imagine anything you'd hear on the subject would be on the oil rig.
>>
>>317414630

I don't see how any of these fucking vault experiments make any sense at all, since we never learn how the vaults are monitored remotely, if at all. And even if they are monitored remotely, it would require tremendous resources extracting whatever use there is in these vaults, seen as how they are scattered all over the US.

As we all know, FEV has been the scourge of the post war wasteland. It was released into the ecosystem with a ground strike by a Chinese nuke directly on top of the West Tek facility. We know that the Unity and Overseer both confirm that FEV is pretty much endemic to the wasteland and caused much of the mutations we see in fallout. The Enclave, Overseer of vault 13, and the Unity all agree to its dominant presence in the wasteland and its ecosystem.

We all also know that the Enclave’s plan was to bunker down, weather the fallout, then reemerge and take control of the wasteland. With FEV in the ecosystem, the escaped experiments, and the mutations out in the world their plans of rebuilding was ruined. Since the Enclave didn’t hop on a ship and colonize another planet, and the multitude of failed vaults, it’s safe to say their plan B was foiled before it even got off the ground.

The Enclave in Fallout 2 even stated FEV was an impediment to their plans, and needed to be wiped off the face of the earth with a counter virus. They tried this again in Fallout 3, indirectly proving the FEV had worked its way all across the United States.

FEV single handedly stopped the Enclave's plans and stopped their plan of world domination dead in its tracks. China accidentally stopped the Enclave dead in its tracks and laughs were had by everyone for their good fortune, right?

Not quite, as the Chinese didn’t accidentally stop the Enclave. They knew what they were doing. They knew about the Enclave. They knew what West Tek was, what it was doing, and what would happen if a nuke hit it. They would know all this quite easily.

We know that China had an insane amount of spies spread throughout the United States. We find them all over DC, the Pitt, Point Look out, we find traces of them in the Mojave and even infiltration of top secret labs researching biological weapons that almost no one knew about.

Sometimes you can ask for background, but if there's ever two options for that, you're fucked because picking one locks you into that branch of dialogue.

If there are "Ask about A" and "Ask about B" options on the wheel, asking about one keeps you from ever asking about the other.

And people still ask why others have issue with the wheel.
>>
>>317416646
The Chinese also knew about Liberty Prime, the Pentagon’s dirty little secret. Oddly enough, they finger West Tek as a possible collaborator.

In order to know about a secret lab like Sub Level 1c and to know it contains a biological weapon demands almost total penetration of the US government. This would likely compromise practically all research labs, military bases, and any storage or armories including West Tek as a government delegation was on site directing West Tek into avenues of research and reporting back the often disastrous findings.

The same delegation also moved FEV from West Tek to Mariposa for safety reasons, locking down the experiments so that even the military staff didn't know about it, prompting a rebellion when they did find out about FEV. This radio silence cut the Chinese off from knowing anything more and any other place FEV is sent after Mariposa. However, they didn’t need to hit Mariposa as West Tek was still a depository of FEV. Hitting West Tek also has the distinct advantage of correlating perfectly with the westerlies, air currents that will lead the airborne FEV across the continental United States. On top of all this, West Tek dropped off the grid , cutting China off from knowing anything more than FEV being in West Tek. This explains why Mariposa never got bunker busted. They knew the flaws FEV had due to the incoming reports of its limitations leading up the war that were relayed back to the federal government, and they in turn used it against the Enclave. They would know the characteristics of FEV, which means they knew FEV couldn’t be destroyed by a nuke, and largely couldn’t be removed.

The point is, China would have enough reliable information presented to them to form this plan. The weather patterns, the characteristics of FEV, everything. With the information from ZAX, the Chinese could assume that FEV was incurable and permanent.

>>317416934
With all this, the damning evidence is the pattern of the nukes. The majority of nukes that were launched were all air burst. The ground bursts only appear at places with significant value, symbolic or not. The first ground strike we see is at West Tek “that just so happened” to release the agent that single handedly foiled the Enclave conspiracy.

The second was at Fort Bannister, which contained some interesting artifacts to say the least and a recovered alien body. It is also no coincidence that the Enclave tends to use reversed engineered alien technology and that was the source of their power. The third was Vault 87's front door, which also got hit with a ground strike. it’s no coincidence that 2 FEV depositories get hit by bunker busters. This one being disguised as a simple vault. What other vault got singled out the way vault 87 did? The answer is none.

Fort Constantine, with its stockpile of nukes, wasn’t hit. Hopeville and its many nuclear silos wasn’t hit by a bunker buster, as that came later. Indeed, the vast majority of army bases and other places weren’t hit with the ferocity that these 4 places were.

All 4 of these places had value to the Enclave and contained government secrets that China would never know about if it didn’t have deep penetration of the government, or knowledge of the Enclave. China repeatedly singled out places with strong Enclave ties using bunker busters.

Even the bunkers near Black mountain, which was almost hit with a bunker buster, held value to the Enclave as it was meant to be a forward operating base in the event a “crisis” happened just like the remnants bunker near jacobstown. A base that is close enough for the Enclave to extend their reach beyond the Oil Rig.

Hidden valley was abandoned and filled with graffiti. Why launch a nuke to hit a supposedly abandoned base far away from where anything is happening? Yet "just so happens" to hold a vast importance to the post war Enclave plan?
>>
>>317417270
The only answer: China was corralling the Enclave’s post war presence and limiting their influence without destroying the oil rig and its oil directly. Even a pre war Chinese naval computer, the Emperor v8.8, tells you the location of the Oil Rig, and called it the "enclave Compound." The Enclave’s post war plans lie in ruins and their “shield” of sitting on top of oil becomes worthless.

It becomes obvious that the Chinese weren’t firing nukes to places important to America, but rather to the Enclave. The Chinese were fighting the Enclave in the great war and they knew it. The fact that they didn’t target the Pentagon, and its little surprise in its basement that wasn’t a surprise to the Chinese, partially due to America announcing it, and turned it into a crater is a testament to that. The Pentagon didn't get hit with multiple bunker busters like Bannister did, reducing it into a huge crater.

China never touched the more strategic locations with bunker busters. Likewise, purely American symbolic buildings Congress, the Washington Monument, and the Lincoln memorial are all still standing despite having vast symbolic importance to America sitting within a major population center.

All the bunker busters launched at America were methodical, and every ground strike was at a site of Enclave importance. China wasn’t blindly firing at whatever looked important, it was a surgical dismantling of the Enclave and its sources of power.

With FEV no longer under their direct control, they can no longer use bio weapons to exert control, as they tried with Death claws in Fallout 2

Without alien technology, they can no longer reverse engineer advanced weaponry.

With FEV in the wild, the bioweapons and mutants meant for China get unleashed on America and in turn the Enclave. The Enclave, instead of rebuilding with survivors and using the locked away FEV for backup now finds itself in a world where they sit at the bottom of the food chain.

As someone who has very little fallout knowledge (I regretfully admit to having picked the series up at 3, and while I plan to play 1 and 2, I haven't yet gotten around to it) is there any chance of a Fallout taking place in China, or perhaps up near American annexed Canada?

NV makes references to a place called Ronto, so I suppose it's possible there's an Ontario wasteland out there somewhere. Honestly, the Great Lakes region would be a pretty cool place to have a Fallout game. The Detroit/Windsor area, Niagra Falls, and the Greater Toronto area would all make neat settings, assuming pre-existing lore hasn't already wiped the areas off the map.

The Jet is mentioned in Fallout 4 as a pre-war drug.
And the West Coast has much more of a Brahmin/farmer culture than the East Coast. They have Brahmin barons in the West Coast.
The Jet creation was motivated by the Mordino family wanting to control New Reno, it was extremely accidental.
They used Brahmin shit as fertilizer for their shrooms and then noticed that the slaves working on fertilizer vats were getting high from the fumes.
AND to get the dosage right it took "about a hundred slaves". And the side effects until they got the dosage right was "mostly heart attacks, cerebral hemorrhages, psychotic episodes...that sort of thing."

Bethesda has no regards for the lore.

There's the normal fallout bible made by the original writers that spell out pretty much the entire settings events.

There was a cancelled game which was going to feature the Pacific Northwest and China.

Those were the nuclear weapons utilized by the super powers in the Fallout universe. They didn't use Tsar Bombas, but instead low yield atomic weapons that spread radioactive fallout all over the place. It's the reason why there is so little destructive damage, and so much radioactive damage.

Ok that's fair, but what did you mean when you said "the US suffered from its own superweapons but China only got hit by dirty bombs"?
>>

The reasoning is that people see the Great War as basically a reverse switch for human civilization. All the standards of the world revert to caveman levels, and work their way back up (this time, with plans)

So people take China, and the culture that they already have (Huge amounts of people pushed into small areas, immense pollution and Communism doing it's business all over it), and bring it down the same way that America did, AND add in longer lasting radiation, and that gives us MAJORLY fucked up China.

There's a bunch of people in 81 that are outsiders, like the hairdresser. And iirc, the brotherhood qt with Danse joined up as an adult

It's really a guess off the population density of China itself and the U.S ground forces pushing in mainland and given how the U.S treated Canada I can't imagine how they treated the Chinese populous then.
>>317419761
Oh The original BoS. So despite both their limited manpower the Enclave still had tech to outclass the brotherhood and well they were fairly unknown to the brotherhood still. Why fight an enemy you don't know or understand?

>The Jet is mentioned in Fallout 4 as a pre-war drug.

Then the problem is the naming.

The effects as I already mentioned are not consistent which does suggest that they are not the same drug.

It's just the fact that that bethesda used the same name for both.

That's interesting, though I have to say, Mainland China is a fucking enormous place, with long stretches between the important shit. There would have to be something, somewhere, right? Of course I agree with >>317419304 that the series is more about The 50's American WOOOORLD OF TOMORROOOOOW~ gone wrong than portraying a broad spectrum of interesting post-apocalyptic locations.

To be honest, setting all gameplay and engine disputes aside, I thought FO3 and NV complemented each other well from a setting point of view. The temperate Capitol Wasteland, followed by the more arid Mojave Desert. Fallout 4 has a good Aesthetic, if you ask me, mostly because they didn't shy away from adding a splash of color to the world this time around, but in terms of game atmosphere, it really doesn't feel that far from Fallout 3.

I really hope that, whether it's made by Bethesda or Obsidian, the next Fallout takes place in a more frigid, or maybe humid climate. Either irradiated tundra, or flooded and devastated Florida Keys, instead of more Big Ruined City and its surrounding rural areas.

Except Washington DC which was hit by special mountain-creating nukes which turned everything green.

Oh damn you're right. Honestly the whole Cabot story feels completely out of place in the Fallout universe.

China doesn't exist anymore. Even if you believe Mothership Zeta shouldn't be cannon, there's a lot of evidence in the lore that says China got completely fucked by nukes since America was a production powerhouse that I'm way too lazy to look up.

It'd be interesting to see what happened to the UK or something, but I think keeping it in America is best for the franchise.

Sending wastelanders on suicide missions as a rite of entry was sort of BoS standard fare.
