I really hate the direction with the new demons. Yeah the big noticeable demons like the Nathrezim were "edgy evil" but as a whole the burning legion demons were a weird mishmash of standard "fantasy demons" and their overall color pallet was more read than anything.

Because it's easier to write it that way. You can have characters fall to a vague idea like "corruption" and make it seem that while they may have chosen to be "bad" there's a darker force out there willing to prey on their bullshit (Old Gods/Legion/etc). You don't have to ever worry about if a character is actually bad or good because at the end of the day he now has giant demon spikes and is shooting hellfire out his cock so he's clearly evil.

This has been the case since literally all of Warcraft and it works. It also means people can be "redeemed" no matter what. I mean fuck look at WoD people complained that the Iron Horde meant that the big turning the Orcs into demon blood junkies meant fuck all since they're savage niggers. Bam Gul'dan makes some demons show and suddenly Grommash is literally forgiven of ALL war crimes and that's the official stance from Blizzard.

Hey let's take a look at a previous expansion that featured a lot of Legion influence with Burning Crusade.

The Legion had a hand in many of the events that took place during the Burning Crusade expansion. They were found in many zones and were the final villains of the expansion! Now another big thing to remember about the Legion is that more than being literal demons they're an amalgam of races bent in service to Sargeras. They look demonic but even in the case of the Eredar they're not actual "corrupted" into anything more than big red guys.

In Burning Crusade you had a bunch of factions fighting and not all of them were Legion controlled. Illidan and his forces were made up of a bunch of unique races and were at odds with Legion. You also had many factions that did not care like Gruul and his ogres, the fuckers in the mana crypts, and the arrakoa.

Skip ahead to Legion and literally everyone in that expansion who is a villian is working with them. All are subservant to the Legion and all are given giant fucking spikes and green fel gaudy fucking bullshit. It all looks the exact fucking same.

The Legion "corrupted" in that it manipulated people with promises of power from behind the scenes. The "New Legion" literally gives everyone ever giant green fucking power spikes and shit to show they are "Legion". You don't have to have a fucking demon uniform to show you're a villain. You can be evil to be a villain.
