It depends on a lot of factors, but I'd say I generally gravitate toward more inhuman races.
Argonians and Orcs in TES.
Looots of races in WoW, including Draenei (yes, including the ever rare males), Orcs, Trolls, andWorgen.
The plantfolk and Charr in Guild Wars.
Roegdayn and Au Ra in FFXIV.
I actually gravitate toward humans in Dungeons and Dragons settings, though. Can't say why that is, half-orcs and tieflings just lack some kind of appeal for me.

Guild Wars had a good thing going until the salads came along.
Humans were strunk as fuck and dwarves all got turned to stone and were magic users as oppose to fighters. Beast races were fighting to take back land that the humans had taken.

Yeha, Guild wars 2 has the Sylvari, which are a plant-people twist on Elves.
They're an extremely new race in terms of existence and have only been around for 25 years. Despite this they're fully fledged in terms of intelligence as they exist in 'the dream' before they're 'born' and gain all the basic knowledge they'd need, while learning some other stuff so each individual is unique instead of a hivemind. They're 'born' as adults.

Depends on the game setting and what idea I find most interesting.
In a game like Arcanum, I'll always go Dwarf because I love the flavour if brings with it in that game.
In a game like Morrowind, I'll most often go Dark Elf for the the buffs and to feel at home within the setting. (Even though everyone still calls you outlander).

Nah, it's still alive and they never gave up. It's more that the previous guys that started it, announced it WAY too early. Normally, most companies doesn't really announce their games until they're 1 year or two from completion.
When EQN was announced, they had barely started. I'd say we got another year or two before it's released, maybe even three. They're keeping it under wraps for now, since what they're most likely doing right now is just the "Boring" stuff, like AI, mechanics and such.
I mean, sure, some of us would probably love to hear and see about that, but the problem is the general reaction and impression showing off a game that doesn't even have much assets and props and mostly just coding and AI. People will assume it's shit regardless of how the end product ends up looking like, leading to less sales.
It's why NDA are so common for alphas and betas for example, because they know that the common man are too retarded to look past the exterior.
Of course, I have no idea if EQN will be shit or not, but I can assure you that they are working on it.

I always go the charisma route, if there is charisma rolls. Usually the best races for that are elfs and humans.
If there are no speech checks, I go the one most suitable for knight/paladin, again most often human.
