I don't know what people thinks but I think not being able to interact much with the enemies make horror games way more intense.

Honestly, it didn't even need the alt-tab spook or THAT part to spook me. This image with the music and how it lingers was extremely unsettling. Especially if you're shit like I am and she starts crying.

Standard subversive stuff.
Fella goes into it thinking he's in for a qt puzzle game, but weird shit happens like strange .txt files and pictures appearing in the install folder as well as THAT part.

Nothing deep, but it worked for most people who played it. Also metsu mode is fun shit.

As a kid, these monstrosities always made me outright dread venturing as far as the Magic Crafters world. The fact that they always tended to sneak up behind me while I was exploring and were nigh-on invincible when I tried to take them on without the fairy's power-up just made them the symbol of fear for my young mind.

I haven't played many horror games, I'm sure there are scarier things, but these guys almost gave me a heart attack every time they showed up.
>>
The scariest thing was a flash game with some jap girl, then she runs at the screen and fills the frame, you can hear a load cracking as her neck bends so her face fills the frame.

I saw it once without sound and thought nothing of it, then watched it with sound and it was terrifying. The sound is really jarring.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? I think you scroll down a page with still pictures and writing, then the last image is animated and the page scrolls to it by itself.

Probably the bathtub jump scare in Eternal darkness.

Later parts of system shock 2 used to freak me the fuck out, but the graphics just don't do it for me 15 years later.

FEAR and its expansions have some very tense moments. There's a particular one halfway into the first game, where you're in the office building. If you get too close to one of the cubicles, Alma does a superfast crab walk at you out of nowhere. The radio static only actually plays while she's doing it, so you don't get any warning, and it's such a short distance you don't even time to prepare for it.

People still freak the fuck out and empty their shotguns into that one cubicle.

The house I grew up in was legit haunted.

There were several rooms no one would go into, and whenever some part of the house was falling apart, you'd magically be told about it just by being in the house.

For instance, there was a summer when my window had a crack in it. No one got to sleep for days until we fixed it.

Every night for my whole life, at around 2 am, there would be knocking from somewhere in my room.

It was always there, so I didn't think about it until I was much older. My assumption was that it was just pipes in the wall, or a window sill finally cooling off from a hot day, but when I moved out, I realized that it was someone tapping the closet door behind my bed.

There was this one time my mom decided we needed to fuck about with the furniture. Beds had to be turned around, all the little tables had to be relocated, and so on.

This didn't go over well, and lasted less than one day.

The room above the kitchen is the one place mom won't even go into. You can hear booted foot steps from it even during the day.

There was this korean webcomic that like starts out doing the usual creepy buildup in asian psychological horror, but when the reveal happens, the creepy buildup subject (a new girl in town iirc) turns around and has this really fucked up face. It's done as an animation, so you actually see her turn around. There might be sound with it as well. The most fucked up part, though, is that when you scroll up after that, EVERY PANEL IS THE SAME ANIMATION OF HER TURNING AROUND

Fucking christ, this.

Spiders in general can fuck right off. I love Ty the Tasmanian Tiger but to this day the spiders in that game make it absolutely unplayable. When I was a kid, I cheated to always have the kaboomerangs so I could kill them easily, but that didn't stop them from scaring me shitless. In the spirit of fariness, I would ONLY use the kaboomerangs for spider destruction until I had properly unlocked them

Also, Baby Sheegoths in Metroid Prime ensured that scaredy-cat child me never even made it to Boost Ball/Wave Beam.

But I got over that one pretty easily. Now I fuckin' love Metroid Prime. Spiders can fuck off though.

This god damn fucker from King Kong. It's fucking jaw/teeth jutting outward made it look vicious and the fact that you have to let it chase you around for a time is fucking horrible. What's worse?

When it chases you and is nearing you, it arches its head down and opens its mouth like it's getting ready to fucking have you for dinner. It kills you in two hits and the fact that it almost always looks at you while it lumbers towards you is the worst.

I'd say it is one of the most tense and threatening enemies in a game I have played to date.
>>
>>316884845
Nigger are you serious? I've played FEAR like 5 times and it's not even a little scary other than the stupid jumpscare in the first level where a face flashes on the screen, and even that is just mild. It's an action game first, an inflitration game second, and only after that does it seem they focused on actually making it scary.

I sleep on the topmost floor of the house. Every night, just as I'm about to fall asleep, I hear people on the roof. As in, the clear noise of skin from at least 10 people, like they're barefoot or slapping the ground with their hands.

I really, REALLY hope my roof is being used as a spot for an orgy.

Because if you've lived somewhere for so long the creepy shit becomes routine, then it doesn't matter.

I've seen some shit in that house, man. You don't even want to know. The worst was when my parents fucked with the furniture in my room, and I experiencing living nightmares until they put everything back the way it had been since they moved there like 20 years prior.

To this day, that room looks EXACTLY the same. Mom doesn't like going in there unless she has to

Other than that one time, I never felt that there was an evil presence in the house. It was just a very commanding one.

Yes, it's way better than it has any right to be, especially because most movie tie-ins are shit. It's only real fatal flaw is that replay value is not that great.

The very first time you see Pyramid Head in SH2 still spooks me. You hear a scream from down a narrow hallway, and when you go to investigate there's metal bars halfway through blocking the way. And on the other side of the bars, just barely visible, is Pyramid Head silently staring at you. The first time I played it I obviously had no idea what it was, but on replays it gave me chills.

>tfw legit fucked up

The romanticizing of this in the media really irritates me. It's not fun to want to kill yourself. It's not fun to wish you never wake up when you go to sleep. It's not fun to have nightmares. It's not fun to hear things or see things. It's not fun to have soul crushing loneliness at all times because everyone is afraid of you. It's not fun to be perfectly fine one minute, and then think you're going to die.

I wish I would meet a girl or something that is just as messed up as I am so that we could support each other and end the loneliness, but that'll never happen.

Sorry for ranting.

Not scariest, but recent thing to scare me is the enemy they added in the last Exanima content patch.

>Enter new area. A little to empty and quiet.
>Find my first locked door. As I click on it, something roars and starts pounding behind it.
>I figure I'm safe and it's locked behind the door.
>Hear it smashing and roaring off-screen, eventually disperses.
>As I'm casually exploring rooms at the end of a long hallway, wave after wave of skeletons suddenly come at me.
>Fend them off after a while, but didn't lose much health while completely forgetting about the creature at this point.
>Venture deeper and see a busted gate, but before I can go further I hear the roar again.
>Never seen it before, thinking it looks like some generic demon or large humanoid.
>Ready myself while facing an open door-way.
>It comes from the side-hall out of fucking nowhere, throws me into a wall.
>Try to get up but it knocks me back over like a toy.
>Finishes me off like a gorilla.

It's literally impossible to be scared by horror games/movies. Whenever I'm with friends I have to pretend. How do I join in on the fun, bros? I've played/watched all the classic horror games and I just can't seem to ever find the thrill of getting frightened.

Yeah, mom's lived there since the 1970s.

The biggest room in the house is the one above the kitchen, obviously a master bedroom sort of deal. Also has all the air, heating, and water pump in a side room, and a big ass closet where the bad guy in a Bond movie would store his expensive suits.

I've spent a grand total of about one night in that room. Few things in live are as disturbing to me as considering going into this one room. I always expected there to be some old army officer giving me the thousand yard stare at me from across the room, or handloading revolver cartridges in a corner.

Not him, but I lived in a haunted house in Jacksonville, FL where my family would hear and see things often, usually little girl noises. We never knew why. There'd always be noises coming from my closet at night. Usually crying or whispering. I'd be too scared to move and just sit there and sweat. My closet had a lock on the outside of it for some reason which always bothered me. My dad took it off and replaced it with a normal door handle and that night I heard giggling and laughing from behind the door for the first time and then the noises stopped.

Sure. Most of my city friends would agree to one sleepover.

Just one, then they'd ask about the late night knocking sounds. Some kids were stupid enough to go into the master's bedroom, which ended many friendships.

I'll inherit the house in a couple years, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to cope with living there. I'm not my mom, and the house doesn't respect me enough to just let me move back in.

>Especially since every small town seems to have its own original creepy shit that went on in the area

Wish I could remember any of it

Once I woke up a little ahead of my body, so I felt numb and couldn't lift myself up or raise my arms. I was a little panicky so I stared at the floor. I watched a bunch of little shadows skitter around my floor until my body started to get the pins-needles feeling all over.

It wasn't so bad except that I have a large poster of the film Perfect Blue by Satoshi Kon, and on the poster the woman is staring ahead, so it looks like she's always watching me from wherever I am in the room.

Pretty spoopy for me.

I more or less just get creeped out by the concepts of the enemies, but yeah in game it's extremely hard to be creeped out by them. At least the sounds they make are somewhat scary.

I wish /x/ hadn't ruined skinwalkers
I grew up in an area with a bunch of natives and they would always tell stories about wendigos and skinwalkers
Shame that /x/ made a billion faggot stories about them and now they're played out

There's a little bust next to it. You can't miss it.

If you're just slightly insane, the eyes will actually start observing you.
If you're close to drained on sanity, the statue itself is looking at you, and twisting its head to follow you.

There's also a little horse like object pretty close to it. With super low sanity, the horse starts running in place, and you can hear whoosing winds.

This game legit creeped me out because it had a lot of the ingredients for a horror game so I was always expecting some shit to happen all of a sudden

>Enter video room
>Expect the lights to go off except for the TV and the door to close/lock then some scary shit to appear on the TV with eyes that follow me and I have to approach the TV to turn it off
>Nothing happens

That part in the secret room where the light bulb breaks legit freaked me out. Fuck this game. It should have been a horror game not a stupid narrative "experience"
