Sonic Advance 3 was so perfect. It's a shame that Rush just decided to ignore the platforming in favor of boosting. Boosting DID help 3D Sonic a ton though, but I never liked it with 2D.

Sonic Shuffle had some great ideas but the load times and shitty monster battles kind of ruin it.
The card system for movement is a million times better than random dicerolls though, especially when everyone has their own VMU and can see their cards on the controller. Lots of strategy involved that you don't get with Mario Party.

The only thing I didn't like about monster battles was that when everyone's deck is down to just a few cards some of them become impossible to win because no one's got a card high enough.And some of the minigames are unwinnable like that fucking crocodile emergency.

card movement sounds great on paper until you run out of cards or don't have the one you want, then you have to either pray that you can randomly pick an opponent with the right card or get lucky and have an S card saved for the right now. in order to get precioustones you also have to land exactly on the spot or else you don't do the battle. if you play any amount of single player the computer will semi-constantly steal cards from you, so you spend five plus turns having to pick cards blindly from the other players. basically, it's shit.
