Solid game. I've always been a fan of the battlefield games, and BF4 is basically BF3 but improved in every way. I have the advantage of never knowing what BF4 was like at release (which no doubt soils many people's opinions about it).

The spawns are easily the worst part about the modern Battlefield games. Not just squad spawn, even when you're spawning to defend your checkpoint. I can't count how many times I've spawned right next to an enemy or even a tank.
Doesn't help that the most popular maps are so straight forward, like one big choke point, instead of having to go far east, or west.
Another thing that I find annoying is how rifles with an effective range of 500-600 meters turn to cotton candy after like 70 meters in this game, I realize it's balance issue and is not so bad on hardcore, so I'll let it slide.
The rest of the game is great though.

The performance issues on launch really let me down, And while I didn't mind the spawn on any squad member aspect of 3, the short ass default spawn times meant that if you didn't wipe out an entire squad in a few seconds, you're very likely to get shot in the back, or in the face by someone with waaaaay too much spawn invulnerability.

- You are invincible for a few seconds when you spawn as long as you don't move so that you don't get insta-killed.
- You have a camera that shows you if your squadmate or flag is safe or under fire. Use it wisely.
Also, play it on Classic so that you can only spawn on your squad leader. Game is much better in Classic.

Yeah I know about the camera, it's partly my own fault on that note, but I also mentioned when spawning on a checkpoint it's not all the time, but enough for me to point it out.
I also only ever play on hardcore, haven't been playing lately though and I only got to try classic once. But it'll be my go to game mode from now on.

I think the issue here is because every infantry unit and every vehicle can have any equipment that they want.
Every single fucker is going around with thermals in their vehicle, and on small chokepoint maps that is a death sentence for infantry.
I think Battlefield would be better if they had dedicated classes for this shit, instead of letting everyone be anything. I mean the older battlefield games only let you choose between regular/alternative weapons depending on what faction you were, and what they would be equipped with in reality.

If you are referring to the fact that it is not talked about on /v/ it is because it is a good game fundamentally. Of course to it was the game series that started season passes (premium in BF franchise). At the end of the day though I think DLC is bull shit most of the time but I will buy it if I like the game for what it is. The new star wars battlefront it taking it a bit far though with its skeleton structure and all the meat of the game being the DLC to come. But I did enjoy the beta to a degree but it (like any game) can get very boring and tired. Also MFW EA heralded the destruction of content filled games with the season pass model.

Something about it was off. The maps felt a lot more confined, the gunplay (at the time) was terrible, didn't have that natural drive to play for the objective, commander mode is an abortion of a gimmick and a generally more stupid playerbase (not the game's fault). I still enjoyed it but I'd have BF3 anyday of the week.

I stopped playing BF4 after two or three months since I didn't want to buy EA's overpriced map packs and refusing to do so meant being constantly booted from servers.
Even then, DICE was taking is sweet time fixing the technical issues with the game. A lot of maps regularly had sound cutout issues. Servers shit themselves when level destruction kicks in.

There's also the fact that veteran players are relocated to support roles because inexperienced players don't know how to effectively take down aircraft, tanks or hold down defensive positions.
You have level 140s holding down the friendly flag all game with stingers popping flares to save the casuals from getting genocided by attack helicopters or jets when they'd be much better placed on the offensive.

Battlefield 4 is really immersive if you just try to forget the scoreboard for a moment, have a drink or something to help you not care about k/d ratio, and disable all the popups/music, etc.

I went Premium and barely play most of the DLC maps since most servers run standard maps. Seriously, try looking for any of the naval strike maps on a good day and you'll see one or two abandoned servers.

BF is for combined arms, which was something I always wanted to have in a multiplayer game and was extremely inovative. My wish was fulfilled when Codename Eagle and BF showed up.

Because no sniper uses PLD and thus no engineer carries laser guided missiles.

Well until this recent patch the PLD/SOFLAM was a nightmare to use because it locked on to everything other than the tank you were pointing it at. That made recons not use them. Combine that with the fact the PLD used to be 300m to lock and revealed your position not only because tanks have psychic powers but you have a giant red beacon on your face, and you have the perfect anti-fun gadget.
Now that it has much better lock-on priority and the PLD being 500m recons are using them much more often.
Engineers just need to notice the change.
Seriously though, just sit in a tow launcher and kill tanks from across the map since it has a fucking retarded 650m lock on range.
