3 > 2 > 4 >1 >5 > 6 > 7
Any questions?
> 5 lesser than anything ever
>>316825716
more like
3 > 2 > 5 > 4 > 1 > 6 = 7
>>316825716
Why can't we have nice things anymore?
4 sucks, hard.
>>316825716
Anybody got a torrent for 4?
>>316825716
>>316829686
is 7 that bad?
Tried to play 6 the other day, holy shit it was awful. Zero unit diversity, towns locked behind that stupid experience shit, game was buggy as fuck.
The only consensus with this series is that 3 is the best and 7 is the worst. Everything inbetween is up to debate.
>>316829886
Yeah, it's essentially 6 but worse. Once again proving that HOMM is as dead as it should be.
>>316825716
2=3>5=4>1>6>7
5 was real good, but you cant discredit the innovation and glorious soundtrack from 4
>>316825716
3 > 2 > 5 > 1 > 4 > 6 > 7
>>316829886
m8 its even worse than 6
>>316830002
>>316830131
But how? HOW?!
3 = 2 > 5 > everything else
Only correct opinion right here, gentlemen.
>>316825716
>that progression over time
3>5>2>1>4>6>7
fite me
>>316830283
this desu
past 5 is crossing the shit game line.
>>316830214
reused assets, shit graphics/sounds bad optimization and its in the vain of the 6th version instead of literally any other version
:c
Why 6 is bad again?
>>316830214
Oh it's very simple. Focus 90% of your budget on flashy visuals, avoid all the complaints you got from your fans about the townscreen, and streamline the units and factions so they feel very similar to each other for that all-important multiplayer which no one plays because your game sucked.
>>316825716
I think what you mean is
3>2>1>why would I even play other
>>316825716
3 > 5 > 2 > 1 > 6
Too different from main series tier : 4
Haven't played yet : 7
>>316825716
Agreed, I've played all HOMM games, a lot, grew up with them
And I simply agree with your opinion
I actually think that 5 with Tribes of the East is basically on par with 3.
>>316830691
You're not wrong.
>>316825716
How does HoMM compare to RTSs?
Most RTSs feature a narrative campaign and then single scenarios, does HoMM work like that?
Does it have a map editor?
Does resource gathering work in a similar way?
I'm not familiar with turn based strategy and I'm not sure I could get into it if it's too different.
>>316830431
Blood Crystals
5 starting factions with only 1 added later
Neutral Stacks grow faster than you do
New creature tiers.
'Noble Savage' Stronghold theme.
'Ching chong' Sanctuary theme
'Necromancers are the good guys now' Necropolis theme
'More spikes mean they're more scary' Inferno theme
>>316830757
Well it's turn-based instead of being real-time so you should already can most of your expectations.
Just play it yourself, what's there to lose other than a couple of hours you'd waste on /v/ anyway? Pirate 3 and go at it.
why did they move away from the hex system for combat?
>>316830757
>How does HoMM compare to RTSs?
Well, HoMM is turn-based. The slightly less interesting cousin of the RTS, but she'll put out after a while and she fucks as if she's done it all her life.
>Most RTSs feature a narrative campaign and then single scenarios, does HoMM work like that?
It has (at least the good ones have) multiple campaigns for each faction, and single-player scenarios.
>Does it have a map editor?
The good ones do. Not sure about 6 and 7 though.
>Does resource gathering work in a similar way?
You find mines around the map. Capturing a mine grants your a few resources per day. You can also find chunks of them laying around.
>I'm not familiar with turn based strategy and I'm not sure I could get into it if it's too different.
It is quite different. But in the good way. Don't worry HoMM1-5 won't scare you off. Just remember to think through your moves. It's not about speed and macro, but smarts and micro.
>>316830879
>'Noble Savage' Stronghold theme.
Why does everyone turn into dindus after a while? I though Stronghold where hardcore savage rape-machines.
>>316830757
If you're looking to get into it, start with 5. The first campaign is well paced, explaining things bit by bit.
>>316831086
I see. I'll give 3 a try then.
>>316831327
Good man.
>>316831224
They are, but the campaign forces it down your throat. The big bad Wolf Empire pushing out the Orcs out of their land etc.
'Muh ancestral homelands and honor' doesn't even make any sense with they're supposed to be the results of wizards experimenting on convicts and criminals with demon blood.
Since everyone loves 3, how about things you DON'T like about it?
I'll start with this shit. Water movement was pretty ass overall, if you didnt get Navigation on anyone you were just fucked by players who did
>>316831628
Mostly just balancing issues, Inferno is underpowered as fuck.
>>316825716
Ok.. what is so bad about 7?
Well it is bugged as fuck, I know that. What else? What makes the 4-6 better?
I played 3 and 7. Liked both.
I remember trying 4 once and thinking it was complete shit.
Why can't they just make a new heroes 3 like they're doing with age of empires 2? There's no sense in making more and more iterations when they're just worse every time.
I heard somewhere they lost the source code or something
>>316832424
You mean like HOMM 3 HD?
They did, it didn't go too well.
>>316832561
It's still homm 3, with none of the addons and other issues. They couldn't include the expansion because they lost the source code or something
So if i want to get started with HMM i should go from 1 to 7 or just get the good ones and ditch the rest?
>>316834239
Go 1-5 and stop
>>316834239
2-5 are worth playing
>>316831628
I honestly never liked the creature design. I prefer 2 there.
Ghost Dragons are cool though.
