Blizzard never left according to the people still buying/playing their games. These are the people who will eat anything Activision's Blizzard shits out no matter how ridiculous it is.
They have since realized that they have a decently large following of people like this who are loyal to them and have since started cutting the resources and effort they put into their games all the while increasing the cost of them and/or upping amount of micro-transaction based content.
Now Blizzard basically has a relatively small development team that gets shifted around from game to game. Their marketing sector dwarfs their development sector by a huge margin. They've taken almost everyone off of their unsuccessful flops like SC2 and Diablo 3. Right now all of their resources are being pumped into Overwatch and Hearthstone. They don't even give a fuck about WoW anymore because history has proven that everyone will buy any expansion they release for it anyway because WoW. Legion will be garbage but will sell record breaking copies on release.
