Todd, shouldn't you be making Fallout 5: Call of Duty edition?
>>
It's an attempt by them to attract as many casual players or people who don't want to bother with lengthy dialogue sessions.
>>
>>316819260
But it's a book where you can have choices
There's literally no other medium as perfect for it as video games
>>
What happens if I open the sarcophagus? All these fags are telling me not to open it, so I definitely should right?

>>
>>316819673
Choose your own adventure books are cumbersome and INFINITELY inferior, that's what I was talking about. Having a system manage the background stuff so you can just immerse yourself and read is much better
It's barely a video game but it's a good thing in itself
>>
>>316819459
What about visual novels
>>
>>316819836
Yup, meant to post a JC but couldn't find one in my folder
>>
>>316820039
No visual novel has a dialogue system like this. Ever. They're all just picking a path every once in a while, and then just clicking start to advance dialogue
>>
>>316818108
Is that onslaught of text considered to be a good thing? Are you one of those people thinking words raise your iq?
>>
>>316820426
No but a good amount of differing dialogue options is a good way to raise the feeling of being immersed in a roleplaying game where you can do and say whatever you want, the more the merryer
>>
>>316820645
You don't do shit, it's a character driven game. If you ever played Torment you would know that you just go down the list, option by option and strike off endless sentences of painful prose.
>>
>>316818273
Graphic engines and voice acting.
>>
>>316820832
maybe that's how some people play these games -- selecting the ramaining responses and skipping reading the text, but there's some people that actually enjoy reading what the game has to offer, and I do think that more dialog choices (even if it's for pure RP purposes) is better than less choices.
>>
Planescape was always an outlier. FO4's dialogue wheel is retarded but every or even most 90s RPGs did not have as much dialogue as Planescape did.
>>
Planescape's story was on par with an average schlock fantasy novel. Games are just not a good medium for narrative.
>>
>>316821794
No it wasn't
This makes me question if you've ever read anything made in the past 20-30 years in terms of books or if you're speaking out your ass as a /lit/fag that doesn't actually read books

The fuck? Sure they are, it's just fucking autists can't be arsed to read words. This is why shit like the dialogue wheel and voice acting game into play.

What about 4 and 5 (they seem identical) and 14 and 15 (one is lie and the other is bluff but they're the same sentence)?
>>
>>316821937
Serious question: are you retarded?
>>
>>316821378
The point is that the dialogue choices are not choices at all, they don't dissapear when you choose one except in the Ravel scene. Ah what a shit game, can't believe it's still praised. Bethesda is a braindead company but dialogue should be narrowed down compared to Torment.
>>
>>316822478
As far as I remember, you can still go back and choose the other options.
>>
>>316822478

>>
You know what upsets me?

How you can't craft ammo. Fuck you
>>
>>316822593
Serious question, did you go through high school ?
Did you read the most famous works of the ages, going from ancient epics like The Illiad and Oddysey, through middle age books about el Cid and Tristan and Isolde, all the way to works of the renassance and romantism periods, like dantes Divine Comedy, the Decameron, Les Miserables and the like
Those stories are nothing special
In fact les Miserables specifically, lauded as a masterpiece, is fucking mediocre, with hamfisted messages that are bashed over your head. Yes the restoration period was bad Victor, we get it. The stories in it are no more complex than what you'd find in genre fiction, regarding poverty and the tragic fates of characters, except just without the fiction
So my question stands, are YOU retarded / Did YOU pay attention in high school when you went through all the most famous and aclaimed historical works ?
>>
>>316818108
What happens if I want to ask more than one of those questions? How do I know which option progresses the dialogue?

Why would you want that?
You have basically infinite ammo in this game asides from mini nukes and alike.

so now that we've had some time with the game, can we all agree that Fallout 4 is way better than Fallout 3/NV but worse than FO2 and better than FO1
>>
>>316818108
>The series has gone from a slow cerebral game to a faster paced more action oriented one
both ways have their merits. Id very much like a true successor to fallout 2, but fallout 4 is still a highly enjoyable game regardless of its lineage.

No, although it depends. More options doesn't automatically equal better.

It's infinitely inferior because the medium is not suited for it. At a certain point the tedium of having to find the right page becomes too cumbersome for it to be practically possible. That's what makes it well suited as a computer game.

In theory you can use a physical notepad to draw the registers of your computer and manually do the operations for any computer game in existence, so the argument that you could also give it a physical representation doesn't hold, because you can do that with any game out there as well - yet the practicality of it makes it non-viable. And the same applies to choose your own adventure books once they reach a certain degree of depth and complexity. Not to mention that Torment also implements a whole lot more of game-logic which people who claim it was "just a VN" forget about, proving that in most cases they're repeating hearsay rather than relying on their own experience due to the fact that they haven't even played the game.
>>
>>316826936
So basically you're saying you're too lazy to look for the page that continues the story. Video games are also guilty of the same thing, it constantly break the flow of reading for gameplay sections.
>>
>>316828717
I've already told you why this is a nonsensical argument:

>In theory you can use a physical notepad to draw the registers of your computer and manually do the operations for any computer game in existence, so the argument that you could also give it a physical representation doesn't hold, because you can do that with any game out there as well - yet the practicality of it makes it non-viable.
