Are two separate matters. Unfortunately, as of late, GW seems to be forgetting the latter and focusing entirely on the former.

You know if you use the tiresome excuse that the warhammer series was made by "thst kid" what do you have to say about Harry potter, Lord of the rings, and star wars? Quit calling the kettle black.

Alright, /v/. You're playing a 40k game as a guardsman and holding that line as best you can when a Space Marine chapter brings reinforcements.

Which chapters would you be most glad to see? Which chapters would you politely ask that they go away please?

I'd tell ask those team-killer faggots The Unforgiven to fuck right off. Politely.

I just don't understand why people claim thst Warhammer40k is too "OP" is sci-fi genre not allowed to make something feel powerful? Is thst only reserved for "DE bad guiz" Nothing in Warhammer is good. All fight to survive. Maybe it's because Spess Mahreens are the first thing people see and ignore the other shit like the Imperial guardsmen who do all the hard work and die by the millions... Fucking weak shit like Halo and Mass Effect making everyone like weak and inferior humans.
>>
It's a guilty pleasure, OP, best keep it that way. If you want to discuss it best go to /vg/, or if you know some lore or read some of the books you can try and go head to head with /tg/. I try not to talk about things I like on /v/.

To me, WH40k was always the silly younger brother of the real meat of the franchise - WH Fantasy, even though it's clear that WH40k has been the more popular product for the last 15 or so years.

I'm glad that they at least decided to give WHF a proper digital burial before shooting themselves full of drugs and creating the Sigmarines.

So, who's hyped for Warhammer: Total War?

I didn't get into 40k until 2 years ago, but I wish still had that silly air to it along with all the 80s metal and epic.

I'm just now getting into tabletop, and I'm planning on playing Rogue Trader (1E) using modern unit rules. I wish the universe still had that seem feel it had in 1E.
>>
>>316807194
Deffinetly...but I really wish they'd make something like mount and blade where YOU can fucking participate in the battles. I yearn for that experience charging in as an Orc nob or Reiksguard knight into the fray...
>>
>>316806591
>Warhammer40k is too "OP"

Anyone saying this doesn't bother with much other scifi. WH40k is quite vanilla in technological power levels.

They don't build ringworlds, they don't use antimatter weapons and virtually everything is directly controlled by something that's more or less a living being so for being about galaxy-roaming species in the very deep future they're surprisingly lowtech.

WH40k isn't very serious scifi though, it's carefully designed to fit the grimdark mood and narrative of warhammer and maintaining this is prioritized over technological or logical consistency. It's more a superhero comic setting than scifi.
>>
>>316805191
I bought and played vermintide for like 90 minutes and I really liked the artstyle/design

there a similar game, but doesn't require 3 friends to enjoy?
>>
>>316808105
Let's not forget the strange emphasis of "in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only WW2 trench warfare."

I never understood this. Why isn't aircraft hitting M3 and while dropping bombs / accurately firing while completely untouchable? Why aren't ships doing anything from orbit except total planetary destruction? Are satellite-based attacks too complex technologically?

Sometimes things make sense, like on Armegeddon, they orks built a shield strong enough that no weapon could pierce it and they had to march through slowly Dune-style. But on the open field, why aren't warbosses picked off by any of the tech that is even today available?
>>
>>316808606
Because, brotip, Warhammer 40k was originally just Warhammer Fantasy set in the future, ironically still reliant on knights (marines) fighting dragons (tyrranids) with their (chain)swords.
>>
>>316805473
Everyone in that picture looks so calm, even the tyranids. Some of the guardsmen even look bored.
>>
>>316809071
Nids were barely even present in 1E and listed as one of the dozens of "possible alien natives a rogue trader might encounter on a new world." I agree on the knights though.

>>316809090
Well, they've probably been holding that line for 4 weeks straight. I've talked to a marine before who was in a 12 hour shoot out. He summed it up as, "Well, after the first hour or so, you just get bored. Eventually it's like "just shoot me or let me shoot you. I'm hungry and it's getting dark, asshole.""
>>
>>316808606
They do have stuff like Valkyries and so on. Its probably more a thing of availability - creating those aircrafts is expensive, but what they have an almost unlimited supply of is humans.

The Space Marines also use Thunderhawks in pretty much every deployment where its possible.
>>
>>316809383
They have aircraft, but it's slow moving and essentially Hollywood-helicopter tier. Just sits there in there air like a flying tank waiting to get shot down. And when they move, they are going slow enough that it doesn't change anything.

They should have aircraft that shits all over pic related - either in fluff or even table top, like a Master of Ordinance but for fly-by's.

I don't think it's a coincidence either that Marauders are essentially just "futuristic bent-winged B52 bombers."
>>
>>316809672
>They should have aircraft that shits all over pic related
They probably did. Before they first got fucked by the iron men, then by the warpstorm and then by the heresy.
I mean, IIRC the landraider used to be a weakly armored transport craft during their height of technology, and now its one of their top vehicles, only outclassed by a few things like an Capitol Imperialis.
>>
Fuck fallout 4 & their normies fanbase. Literally ruining /v/.
BUMP.
>>
>>316805191
I'd appreciate jt more if the games werent so unanimously shit

except for the dawn of war games and maybe space marine
>>
>>316810098
Your opinions are shit.
>>
>>316809832
But they are still a space-faring race. Techpriests in old lore and current can build space faring craft with ease. A B-2 Spirit is leagues behind that in technology. The average 40k space ship still being produced encompasses a B-2's technology and tons more. So why don't they have anything like it?

But the answer goes back to the WW2 trench warfare thing. It takes different genres of 40k to actually try top ush outside that box, like Battlefleet Gothic.
>>
>>316810196
have you seen the vast amounts of pure shovelware coming from this franchise the past few years?

ever since THQ died relic just said fuck it to 40k even though they're literally the only people capable of making a decent 40k game
>>
>>316810196
Not him, but I completely agree. Dawn of War 1, Space Hulk: Ascension, and Space Marine are the only "good" games out there. Fire Warrior? Regicide? All those mobile-tier shit games? Fucking Storm of Vengeance?

There isn't a single game out there that actually takes advantage of the universe. Even DoW1, my favorite of the batch, is good because it is a fun RTS with 40k themes. It doesn't take advantage of the universe itself and the second game even scraped out most of what they had in DoW1 for the emphasis on "tactical" gameplay.

But hell, I'm trying to convince someone's whose post costs of "another opinion from mine is shit." Clearly a waste of time.

I guess I haven't. How about instead of complaining you tell me what or where to find this stuff and I'll gladly go read it write now.

Because seriously, there's no trace of fun, whimsical, or light in anything 7E. I've read most of the fluff sections in current codices.

Ah I see, you're one of the morons who thinks the "Fun" from the earlier days of 40k were supposed to be lighthearted and stupid. Sure some were.

But 40k has always been about the parody, and it's still fantastic at that.

Also Newcrons.

So how does that negate a satellite/orbital strike?

And on that note, when they have shit like ork/nid infestations, why don't they just fire a single torpedo instead of going full exterminatus or marching millions to their deaths? You can't say dozens of Russes, millions of lasguns/flak armor, thousand of heavy weapons, and all the other shit found in regiments is somehow cheaper than a single whatever missile (hellfire? cyclone? I forget the name).

Ultramarines, because I'm getting the best of the best and they're not total assholes to guardsmen in general

>Telling a Space Marine to do anything
>Ever
Besides that I'm probably being a huge fag and playing a special snowflake Felinid Regiment from Carlos McConnel because I can. So I guess I'd be nervous around Space Wolves?
>>
>>316811293
Because usually those ships are having to fight against other ships of the enemy and surprisingly enough, 40k has strong defences to withstand orbital strikes.

In fact, tabletop rules DO allow you to deploy orbital strikes.

The problem is 9/10 you're fighting in infrastructure you'd not enjoy totally glassing.
>>
>>316810908
I meant an actual developed game and not a dead mod that's never been updated to this day. I want a proper 3rd person warhammer fantasy game that let's you participate in the battles.
>>
>>316811202
Alrighty, friendo. Be bitter and don't tell me what to read. And what I meant to say in not so many words was "doesn't does itself too seriously" (but I had used it already in the post you were replying too). Light and parody fall under that.
>>
>>316811519
Why faction has orbital strikes? The IG MoO's attack is called "Artilerry Bombardment" so I always assumed it was some artillery battery set up away from the battle.
