America's didn't ruin shit and has generally been making the same sorts of games they've been making since pre-gen7. The problem is that the budget explosion of last gen slowed Japan's output to a crawl, and what they did put out tended to try too hard to be like popular western games.
The players in the Japanese industry who sill have an interest in making console games at all anymore and haven't pivoted entirely to mobile seem to be recovering and returning to their old output, though, so I'd imagine Gen8 will pretty much be the reverse of that image.

Look at the kind of games that Japan use to make, games like Mr Mosquito, Gitaroo Man, Katamari Damacy, Viewtiful Jow and Killer7 were all incredibly off the wall and weird games. Playing those games made you really wonder what the hell was going on through this persons head. They were insane and that was what Japan was known for at the time, producing crazy and insane games.
Compare that to the average Japanese game now which tends to follow a very static formula. While I still like Japanese games I can't deny that Japan has lost that quirky charm they use to have in favor of generic JRPG #2467.
Both the West and Japan are creatively stagnant as far as I'm concerned.

I believe it's far more likely that media reflects reality. Japan has foreigners as blonde because realistically most people there have dark hair, and blonde hair is immediately identifiable. This is also why it has become designated foreigner hair in even the cartoony settings, it's immediately recognizable.
But America actually doesn't have that many blondes, so their characters also reflect reality, with mostly hair colors you'd see in real life.

The moment you start to advance in the game or play on something other than easy, you will get slapped down in straight order.

Trying to appeal to as many different types of players as possible always makes the end-result mediocre. Just like a "general" solution will always be worse than a specialized solution to a certain problem. What players need to do is learn that not every game is for them, find out which games they actually enjoy, and stop giving a fuck about "gamer cred" and playing/finishing games just for the sake of saying that you did it. I think rather than being annoyed at ideologies primarily, people are upset at lack of standards. Just look at people's reactions to AAA games always being met with rave-reviews, and people complaining critic metascore to user one. There's disconnect between audience, and people who get to communicate with developers, and that is making people upset.
The ideologies come in play when many of the people whose views and ideas about games /v/ would disagree with side with certain ideology, thus creating association of dislike. /v/ can be fine with somewhat obnoxious and assholish behavior, as long as you have something to show for it like Kamiya. But many of the people that /v/ has become upset with really haven't done anything worth noting, which only fuels the rage when people pay attention to them seemingly without reason.

For example, Guilty Gear AC had one of the best AIs I've seen in the fighter, with the AI freely using advanced manuevers for higher damage and lockdown, even using high end Eddie corner lockdown tricks that only the best GG players can pull.
Yet, drop the difficulty, and the AI does not use these advanced moves or is as aggressive in pursuit.
