The combat remains really boring the whole way through, but the puzzles get better as it goes on.
The main draw of the game for most people is watching the story unfold, since things get interesting in Zone 2 and really hit the fan after you beat Zone 3. Be sure to go back to all of the zones after you beat 3 too.

Actually, believe it or not the creator has stated that the real story isn't that at all.
It's actually thatHugo was a kid with psychic powers who recreated the world after some sort of terrible apocalyptic event. The guardians were his imaginary friends.

OFF honestly for me is only good for its Soundtrack, Monster Design and Style.
Game play is meh, Puzzles are meh, Story is a bit too up to interpretation for my liking.
I still like it tho. For a RPG maker game is pretty neat.But yeah, fuck those people who try to make it out to be the best RPG ever, same goes for Undertale people too. Some games honestly just are good for what they are and yet people try to make them out to be amazing trips.

The only good part of OFF was the monster designs and music. The combat is utter shit that takes fucking forever because of the pointless ATB and you can just run the entire game on auto because it's so pathetically easy. The random battles also turn it into a grindfest and make it so that you spend 90% of the actual game time just watching the slow fucking bars fill up instead of playing the fucking game.
The puzzles suck and the endings are all shit.

It does only appear once Hugo is dead to be fair, and by then the world is so fucked up it doesn't matter.
Plus the ape's show up even if you flip it right?
So it's not like flipping it actually wiped EVERYTHING away.
Maybe the switch honestly does nothing but end the game and killing the Judge is what the Batter really has to do to really finish his quest, since Zone 0 is still presumably normal as long as he's alive.

I think it's because of Undertale.
Undertale came out and become popular, LISA's been popular for a while, so people have been asking about other RPGMaker games and OFF came up and a bunch of new people tried it.

Seeing how popular OFF got actually gives me some inspiration to make my own game, mainly because it shows that if you can make an interesting enough story, and can draw basic yet creepy designs, you can potentially attract a decent sized fanbase.

RPGMaker is an interesting case as far as "good" games made with it go, as the most interesting ones tend to be where there was a significant effort to create and use custom assets, sometimes way out there of the default JRPG look, like with Hylics.
Or whatever Jack King Spooner puts out. His games tend to be a bit on the incomprhensible side though. Except Beeswing, that was a nice, personal auto-biography-turned-scrapbook realized in gamemaker.
It's not really as easy making games with it as its made out to be.

Looks like I'm not the only person who feels that way. If you were really turned off by the writing, you should probably just leave it. The writing and dialogue stay shit the whole time, and the gameplay adds nothing. I'm usually a huge faggot for these types of games, but I really thought this one was garbage.
