Crash didn't have the effect on the console world that FFVII had, nowhere near it. I mean, everything about FFVII ended up a significant influence to that generation. From all the 3rd parties following Square as they left Nintendo for greener pastures with Sony, to the sudden, huge popularity of RPGs in the west, to the glut of pre-rendered cutscenes that filled the game and came to define what FF, RPGs, and hell, PS in general was about. FFVII is like, 'the' PS game of PS games. MGS and Crash and Spyro are there too, but they didn't have the same level of impact.

There are so many obscure plot details that most people don't even understand that there's barely a chance you would have picked them up in casual discussion.
