I realized that my overclocked 970 was starting to get up to 81C while gaming, so I made a fan curve and it seems to stay at 74 or lower instead. The fans are still plenty quiet at 50-60%, I don't understand why the GPU's default hardly makes use of the ACX cooler until it's fuckin' burning. I know the GPU is still safe in the 80s, but why not crank the fans up to keep it cooler?

Yeah, that's what my fan curve in the image does. I'm thinking of making it even more aggressive. It's 45 at idle typically, so that's why I have it kick in at 50, when any gaming would drown out the noise anyway.

Not to mention, it's still damn quite. My first GPU, oh man, it was like a fucking airplane. Was also EVGA, but an old 9600 GSO blower

Hey, it was cheap, and it runs Fallout 4 at 50-60 frames at minimum unless it's gotta load assets or I'm in Diamond City. It's done everything for me from playing everything I owned up maxed out with good frames up until to Killing Floor 2 and FO3. And it still handles KF2 at high with good frames, but it gets choppy sometimes.

Well now that SSD manufacturers have learned that even cheap SSDs from 3 years ago can last 40 years under 8 hours per day loads, then they'll finally start investing in larger capacities for cheaper costs.

That's the whole point of having them in a gaming PC. Yeah, put the OS on it too, but it's mostly for gaming. Games are the best thing you can put on them, even. Not a lot of file transfers needed unless the game updates a lot. And still it's barely doing anything to its lifespan.

That's quite a jump for idle. Maybe it's not returning to a low-clock state for some reason? Mine did that too because I used different type of connectors for three monitors or something. Like, if it's two DVI, it will underclock, but if you thrown an HDMI connection in the mix too, it will stay clocked and increase idle temps.

The only thing that's ever going to harm your SSD is defragging it.

And by harm, all it's doing is wasting read/writes for something it doesn't need to do.

Your SSD is going to last for a very, very long time. It's going to last longer than you're going to own it, because you're likely going to replace a 120/240/480 GB SSD before it dies anyway. Are you going to still be using it in 5-6 years? It's still going to be working fine if you are.

They're already making 1 and 2 TB SSDs. The prices on these will go down as the prices on the current sizes of SSDs did. Are we still paying $300 for 60GB? No.

I like just sliding the game into the console and it just works. I read about the issues the issues people were having at launch on PC and didn't feel like tweaking anything.

My friend told me he will give me the 750 Ti for $100 with an active replacement plan. But I'm looking to get something better, 980 is too expensive though, and it's major selling point is 4K which I'm not looking to do for a while. Is 950-970 any decent? Or should I stick with this GPU?

I'm no expert, but if it's working for you then sure.

JohnnyGURU is a god when it comes to PSUs. He has lots of info up about them you should check out if you're uncertain.

Dunno, didn't play much with it yet. It got some nice benchmark scores and it seems like AMD has the upper hand in mid-range GPUs nowadays.
>>
>>316638349
Get a better CPU cooler and replace your thermal paste, then overclock your CPU. Consider getting a second 580 as well -- you are only driving at 1080p to be fair

Please assist. I'm in a decent spot so I don't really have a budget, i'm looking for one or two upgrades. What'll it be, and why?
>>
>>316642461

That looks fine as-is. If anything get yourself a nice SSD+HDD combo for storage if you don't have a NAS.

If you must upgrade the CPU, the i5 Skylake is nice for the money, but barely better than the Haswell i7s. The Skylake i7 is in the same situation. But LGA1151 is a new socket, so that's always nice to have.

So, /v/, I sold some stuff i had and my bed and got $340, then i sold my PSP and NDS for $60.
I'm also about to sell my Wii+chink component cables+Zelda twilight princess for another $60~70.

So far i managed to get $470 for my build, a I5-4460+Z97 Motherboard+8GB RAM (8x1)+430W PSU+HAF 912.
>No GPU
Cant afford it, i cant even afford a good 21~23" 1080p screen yet but soon.

I'm about to buy everything this black friday, with this i will be able to be part of the master race?
Is PC gaming worth it? there are a huge amount of games i want to play but i cant because pic related.

How the build will look like in the end.

I5-4460
IGPU because poor, then upgrade to GTX 950/960
No HSF because poor.
GA-Z97X-UD3H
8GB 1600MHz RAM
1TB WD HDD or 1TB HGST HDD
EVGA 430W
HAF 912/200R/300R

>>316643864
For now, yes.
I'm going to add a GPU this Christmas.

I'm sure 430W is enough for a GTX 950-960, but im thinking of upgrade it to a EVGA 500W B to have some space for other options.
>>
>>316644021

I5-4460
>locked cpu because poor
IGPU because poor, then upgrade to GTX 950/960
>still poor even after the upgrade
No HSF because poor.
GA-Z97X-UD3H
8GB 1600MHz RAM
>The new norm is 16GB
1TB WD HDD or 1TB HGST HDD
EVGA 430W
HAF 912/200R/300R

You need an SSD as well.
>>
>>316644297
Actually i already have a 120GB SSDNow 300 for $38 about to arrive in 3 days.

Its not great but at that price there is no problem.

So, how does it looks? because its a really big upgrade from the computer im using right now even if i it doesn't have a GPU.

My current PC is starting to fail, HDD managed to last 19500 Hours till the first mayor failure happened, the motherboard is fucked up, doesn't allow to reboot the computer, only to turn it off and on, also 2 out the 6 USB ports are dead, so is the SD slot.

That im getting the money its sure to buy the list i said, but no GPU so i don't have to buy cheaper parts.
>>
>>316644965

I've got an HDD @ 36,000 hours, and another @ 55,000
