SAC Motoko is more fun, more likable, and more faithful to her portrayal in the original manga.
In the movie she's just brooding the whole time, concerned with things she should never be concerned about at that point in her life, and clumsily exposits the show's messages because they weren't confident enough to convey them through the events of the story.
