Playing this game for the first time. What skills should I increase

General Deus Ex thread too I guess
>>
>>316616305
swimming and poison resistance. Trying to get past the toxic sludge pool without level those skills is a fucking nightmare, the game really should have warned you about not leveling them.
>>
>>316616465

Isn't swimming/environmental situational as fuck though?
>>
>>316616305
You seriously can't go wrong no matter what you pick. Unless you want to go lethal.
It's the augs that make the real difference.
>>
>>316616558
it is he's fucking with you
>>
Ignore low tech weapons. You get a sword later that one shots shit.

Ignore swimming. Don't understand why people always recommend it.
>>
>>316616998
>Don't understand why people always recommend it.

>being this new

There's a unique bio mod that is ridiculously powerful that can only be reached with high swimming skill.
>>
The game will give you a path to go down, generally. Realize that you don't have to go down that path, and that there's almost always another option.
>>
Pick at least one weapon skill and increase that. You're inaccurate as fuck and do shit damage without proper training. You should increase hacking at least a little bit so you can hack turrets.
Also the game never tells you this, but if you plan on stealthily meleeing guards aim around their belt area / where the pants and shirt part of the character model connect. That's the melee weak spot, not the head.

>>316616998
>Ignore low tech weapons. You get a sword later that one shots shit
IIRC it doesn't kill the heavy MJ-12 troopers with one hit unless you have the melee dmg augment and leveled up low tech. On higher difficulties you really want that one hit to kill them since they slaughter you in less than a second if you're standing right in front of them.
>>
Suggested mods for a first playthrough? I remember a reddit post suggesting a bunch, but I always take their stuff with a grain of salt
Inb4 "hurr no mods first playthrough", I'm talking about fixing and rebalancing shit
>>
>>316617959
Deus.exe to make the game run on modern rigs, enable better resolutions and get rid of the game breaking issues.
http://kentie.net/article/dxguide/
>>
>>316617662

I'm at UNATCO and I have pistol, rifle, and computer at trained. everything else is untrained, and I have 975 skill points. What do I increase?
>>
>>316616305
Pick Rifles or Heavy Weapons, they come with the best weapons (Sniper Rifle, Flamethrower, GEP gun)

Swimming has few uses, only level it up once for convince.

Only level Lockpicking and Electronics once, you will find enough lockpicks and whatever the electronic version was called to get through anything you need to.

Get Computers to advanced so you can turn off cameras and turrets, it will make life easier. I recommend doing this early.

Medicine makes medkits much better, but you only need to level it once for bad situations, the augment does a better job healing when maxed.

Everything else is iffy at best and useless at worst.
>>
>>316617959
You don't need mods for first playthrough, and that's all there is to it. Get Deus.exe and you are good to go.

However, if you are really insisting on getting some rebalancing, google gmdx.
>>
>>316618208
Both electronics and lockpicking are always useful skills since they enable you to bypass locks and certain security measures with less tools. Saving your points for later and increasing either rifles or pistols could also be good. If you plan on stealthing a lot you get the silenced pistol much earlier than you get a silencer mod for the rifles.
>>
>>316616305

swimming. max it out
>>
>>316616305
Don't pick swimming because it's fairly useless
>>
>>316619163
Putting at least one point in swimming is pretty useful though, albeit not until mid-game. Before that there is exactly one place where you are going to take a little damage if you have no points in it and refuse to use a rebreather.

wbout for HR? any tips?
>>
>>316620696

Smash it.

Play original deus ex
>>
>>316620696
HR is just a normal FPS with some RPG mechanics. Don't really need any tips for it.
>>
>>316620696
Yeah. If you absolutely have to play DX game that is not DX, at least play Invisible War. Because as godawful as it is, at least it is a Deus Ex game. Unlike HR.
>>
>>316620696
HR has I think one or two stupid side quests that you literally cannot complete without adequate hacking skill, so be sure to increase that. Other than that there really isn't anything complex or outright shitty skills that you should avoid. By the end you've probably maxed out most skill trees.

Also unlike the original Deus Ex where you mainly get EXP from completing objectives and exploration, in HR you also get EXP from enemies, with non-lethal (especially melee) bringing the most points and lethal non-headshots the least.
>>
>>316621152
What makes IW so awful?
>>
>>316621259
It's not. It's just not as good as the first.
>>
>>316620696
Hacking, Persuasion, and extra battery life.
>>
>>316621259
Half-assed, full of bugs, loading times that used to put Sonic 06 to shame but are still quite bad even on modern computers, terrible game design decisions, small maps, butchered hacking and computers in general, story feels like fanfiction.

Otherwise it's solid.
>>
>>316619514
I actually beat the game the very first time with full swimming. I remember it being useful. I just can't really recall all the details. It's been too long.
>>
>>316622051
>It's been too long.
You know what you must do
>>
>>316622303
Replay the first level and then stop playing?
>>
>>316622051

There are lots of places where swimming is useful. The game was designed that way, and if you purposely go looking for swimming approaches, you won't be disappointed.

The thing is though, in most cases, alternative approaches to the swimming one are a lot more useful and convenient - safer, put you in better/more advantageous positions, more things to collect along way, etc.

I can only think of two exceptions personally, one of which is only marginally better, the other one that you don't actually need swimming, aug, and/or rebreather to use. Same's pretty true of hidden stuff reachable by swimming.
>>
>>316622402
Replay the first two levels and then stop playing
>>
>>316622402

I just gas grenade the corner of the door and skip all that bullshit. Takes you straight to UNATCO.

I got the PS2 version for giggles. I'll see what it is like.

Deus Ex? More like Deuce Sex, because this game is fucking shit.

I start the game, and some old guys are talking about some boring shit. Something about a plague, I guess. The only cool part was when they were talking about me being a supersoldier.

My hopes were dashed as soon as the game started. Considering I'm a "nano-aug" (what the fuck does that even mean?) the fact that I die in a handful of pistol shots is shitty.

Guns and melee in this game are both broken. It takes forever to line up a shot and bullets do laughable damage.

I couldn't even bear to finish playing the first level. Fuck this game, and fuck /v/ for calling this turd a great game.
>>
>>316623183
Nah, not really. Morrowind has a few memorable quotes, but it's hardly above the average.
>>
>>316623209

Nice pasta.

>>316623273

I have a lot of Morrowind quotes, but only because I've played it for so long. Most of them are random greetings from NPCs.
>>
>>316623472
B-b-b-but it's pasta!

All these years, and you stupid Deus Ex fanboys come up with the same reply once again.

You fags have called it pasta from the day I wrote it, and your utter lack of originality is the reason that your "counterargument" hasn't changed.
>>

Don't get me wrong, /v/ is pathetic. We all failed as human beings.

Which just makes this guy's case all the more sad, since even among pathetic failures he managed to hit a new low.

He has been posting his crap in every single Deus Ex thread for the past, what, two years? Three? Waiting for someone to reply so he can continue with the same "b-b-b-ut it's pasta" crap. Every single time.

No one can hate a game so much that he'll waste his life away doing the same thing day after day, year after year.

Like, I can't even feel mad. This is beyond pathetic. His life must be insanely shitty, because this is madness on a level a sane person cannot begin to comprehend. I pity the son of a bitch.

And we'd... we never really put that into the game as content... but er, it was, that was our decision, and we kind of made it lightly at the time, as, er, okay, whatever, we'll destroy the Trade Towers. Well, yeah, that's a bit of an understatement. Putting one or two points in low tech will allow you to ohko everything except transgenics and animals with the prod.
>>

>Pick a combat skill and stick with it

>>
>>316635385

If you want to do that for a challenge, that's cool. 100% pacifist stealth winds up being a huge timesink though, when you can whack someone in the spine and get them out of your way. Or just shoot them. If you haven't played it so many times you're out of ways to make it fun for yourself, you should just do whatever you want.

If you just want a challenge and don't care about the extra time involved, try to get your arms and legs blown off in the first mission, and do the whole game as a cripple. Step it up.
