Here's a good quote "The style and graphics of Spore which hasn't changed too much, but the art is 'cuter' in today's Spore, in order to attract a wider variety of players." They also decided to drop any content that didn't fit the 'cute' style or meet the 'wider audience' demands.

This is a footage of a playable Super Mario 64 demo from a 1995 trade show. You can see some older versions of several courses as well as an older hud. At 7:52 a mini-map of the level appears on-screen, something which was cut out of the game entirely. Mario also has regenerating health in this demo, though that may have been added to make it easier for the trade show visitors.

It looked horrendous
I'm sure most of us know that originally Fallout 1 was going to be Wasteland 2. But did you know that before that it was going to be an original game about a time traveler who accidentally kills the first human? The story would have the player traveling to different time periods that have been effected by this and setting things right. In the end you would travel to the present to save your girlfriend. This plot was scrapped for being too stupid.

The overall idea was to have Kraid at one end of a large cavern, and some rickety platforms at the other end that Kraid could reach out to and tip over. He would also fire missiles at you from his belly ports. As I recall you would have to climb to the top and trigger something to collapse on him several times. so ion other words another valve game made worse by retarded playtesters

>>316604682
Well...yes
STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl suffered quite the development hell. As a result, a substantial amount of stuff was cut, some due to rushing the development and some due to realizing it just couldn't be done. Some would later be put into the later games, while some would remain forgotten.
Pic related is Rusty Hair, a type of anomaly that was cut from ShoC. It would spawn the Thorn, Crystal and Sea Urchin artifacts.
>>316604682

>>316606964
Who knowsBest bet is that they would describe it as "Eli's Flies" or something similar to make more allusions to LotF
Deus Ex had quite a bit of cut content. Two major locations were cut: the White House and the Moon. The White House was cut for being too boring.
You also could originally stay loyal to Unatco, which there is still a leftover of in the final game. During the NYC return mission, going to the NSF hideout but not sending the alert signal before returning to Paul will trigger a conversation where JC will say he refuses to help Paul and the NSF. Also notable about this mission is that the path to continue the story is blocked by a keypad rather than a locked door. If you know the keypad code already you can skip doing this whole segment, suggesting it was originally optional.
>>316607182
I'm not sure if i follow. Who's Eli and what does Lord of the Flies have to do with it?
Kinda interested in the whole MGS thing but i don't have the mental fortitude to glean the plot from the games alone
>>316607537
There was also supposed to be a huge refugee camp which also got cut due to technical problems. It pisses me off because that might be cool
>>316607567
Eli is Liquid Snake when he's younger, and Kojima makes a lot of the things pertaining to Eli to reference Lord of the Flies in some way.
Before Team Fortress 2 became what it happened, there were 3 or 4 concepts for the game.
Originally it was supposed to be realistic class based military shooter with 12 classes.

>>316608910
Second known concept was thanks to Half-Life 2 2003 leak. Along with HL2, source code of Invasion along with 2 models leaked. At beginning people thought it was actual part of HL2 as Seven Hour War.
Source code was fully compileable.
Game was set in sci-fi setting, where humans and aliens fight for resources.
Here's how it looked like based on source code.

>>316608910
man that couldve been amazing. much better than the shitpile tf2 actually wound up being.
The Senran Kagura artbooks show some very different early designs for almost everyone in the cast. Some more interesting ones are that Hibari was originally an engineer and Haruka had glasses and cat ears. Hikage had a dog theme instead of a snake theme, and Homura used to be a complete tomboy with short hair and pants.
The most notable thing about the early designs: almost everyone has an early design with small or flat breasts. It seems Senran Kagura wasn't always about Life and Hometown.

>>316610058
Straight out of one of those sci-fi shows, yep.
>>316610184
It really is amazing. Some of the builds were released by the devs after ShoC's release, maybe due to requests, maybe they just wanted to give the folks a better idea of how it all started.
I mean when you look at all those builds it's almost like you can see all that progress made by your own eyes. Like watching a person's lifetime, from the moment of birth to adulthood. Of course, not as poetic as I describe it, but you get the idea.
Perfect Dark once had Gameboy Camera support for a feature called Perfect Head. This would let you upload face shots to be used in the Combat Simulator as custom character heads. Rumor is that this feature was dropped in order to avoid being the target of bad press after the Columbine shooting happend, but this is unconfirmed. Developer sources claim that the feature was too difficult to use as only a perfect front face shot would come out looking any good on the head textures, and the hairlines would never match.

Sleeping victims were carried to its wooden hut, arranged into five pointed star connected with heads. Then it stands on 4 limbs above the middle of their heads and absorbs energy using them as one time use conductors.
>>316614981
I just read up on this. It was supposed to spectate STALKERs in the distance and eventually make them fall asleep. Then it would carry the bodies into it's hut and place several of them in the shape of a start (heads together in the middle). It'd arch over them with feet and hands on the ground, open up it's body and suck out the life energy of them. It's some kind of unique monster.

The name and apparently a bit more than just the name are derived from an old slavic folklore creature - Leshy or Leshen - the same thing that was probably the best looking monster in TW3.
In folklore, Leshy were guardians of the forest, usually described as giants or tall humanoids who had the ability to confuse travelers, make them lost, or put them into magical sleep, sometimes causing them to sleep for many years. They weren't evil though. Not usually, at least. Were supposed to have their own wifes, usually called "Leshka".

I feel you both. No cancellation of anything has ever made me so sad.

Oh fuck that thing would be so scary when you're just roaming the woods.

>This saddens me. Mafia III will probably be a disappointment as well.
Without a doubt. That said, it's really difficult to say whenever Mafia 1 was just a stroke of luck and Mafia 2 was doomed to fail due to the team incompetence, or whenever it was fucked over by Take2. I guess we have to wait for Kingdom Come - it that turns out good, we are all justified to just pick up the pitchforks and torches and burn Take2 down.
HL2 cut content is some seriously soul-crushing stuff. The entire game was supposed to have a much more dystopian/horror feel to it, from the mask-wearing citizens to the aggressive stalkers and neverending night. The closest thing to a "friendly" environment was an underwater arctic rebel base.
You can still catch glimpses of it in the industrial look of the final game, and in much of the music (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dl0voOrev8).

To be honest, the final art direction of the game was fuckton better than what the older version showed off. Sure, there were more and more interesting ideas, but the actual visual side of it was pretty damn bland. The idea to go for less openly distopian, and more subtle Eastern-Europe post-totalitarian aesthetics was BRILIANT and move the game to a whole new level. Sure, I'd like to see more of the ideas for more unorthodox creatures and some locals to see in action, but in terms of art direction and settings, the finalized game was an improvement over the original concept.

you can thank the german faggot that leaked the whole game for that
Valve basically scrapped the game after that and rebuilt it.
>>316619573
Yeah, sure, it looked like Quake 2 bleak bullshit in most of the demos, but you have to remember that the majority of changes happened long before there were any playable demos at all, so what we saw in the 2003 leak isn't really representative
>>316619741
How fucking wrong can you be? Most changes happened long before the leak and existed most as concept art and whatnot
>>316620774
Now that just ain't right, and i don't even play GW

I don't get the hate for this game or the series for that matter. They were great experiences and the environments were like a character themselves; your surroundings weren't generic crap that's been done a thousand times over.
>Shin Megami tensei Nocturne has the Star Wars theme and unused music in it's files.
>Not unused, but you can access the debug mode of Nocturne by going to a save terminal, taking out the disc, and putting in any PS2 game disc in it to go to the debug menu
Another cool one
>SMT IV has unused dialogue of Burrpughs explaining the AR mode that you were suppossed to buy instead of already having it at the start of the game.
>SMT IV also has like hundreds of unused demon dialogue ranging from regular enemies and to demon hordes.

>Molecular Stage
>Not much is known about this stage, and it may have never existed as far as a concept. However, it was said that it operated more like Tetris. It was likely scrapped because molecules can't think for themselves, and the Panspermia theory (that life is brought to planets via comets) was favored to make the game more exciting.
Wasn't this a joke from /v/?

There's literally playable prototypes of early stages
It might be in development secretly now GSC is back though.I hope ;-;

Yeah, the name and not the actual developers

Anything Pepsi Man and the new guys make will be miles better than Survarium, that's how I look at it.
Each class was supposed to have a unique third ability, but the idea got scrapped due to time constraints, which REALLY hurt the Necromancer, as that would've been his ability to turn corpses into minions, which all of his weapons are balanced around.

>Strelok was main character, game was telling about how he got into Zone
Wait, so was it a prequel, or was it about how Strelok came back to The Zone after leaving with the military in CoP?
>>316611084
this looks so much worse than the original exo
the other renders look good tho
>>316598052
The thing about cut content and concept art is, although it looks good on paper, and it may not work well in-game.
I can't hate Valve for wanting to try something new with HL2 as well.
Man, the combat in the beta of Mass Effect 1 looked much better than what we got in the end.
