How is the game, lads?
>>
>>316581249
Worth a pirate, not worth buying. Gets boring after ~7-8 hours.
>>
Awful as an RPG or a fallout game, pretty good as an open world shooter
>>
>>316581283
Open world usually get me too.
>>
mediocre at best
some cool tidbits but thats about it
>>
>>316581249

I'm liking it so far, around 20 hours of gameplay. I don't know why there are some many persons shitting on the game.
>>
I would like to know: How long do you have to wait in one location for enemies to respawn in cleared locations/dungeons?
>>
>>316581249
I like the new crafting and building system
>>
strangely addictive.
I hated FO3 and Skyrim but just doing chores in this game (helping settlements, growing settlements, creating trade networks, etc) oddly hasn't got boring after 30 hours.

It's no New Vegas but it has some lasting appeal and mods are going to make it amazing.
Worth a pirate.
>>
>>316581579
From my experience they don't unless you take a settlement quest to clear them out again.

It's basically the equivalent of Skyrim's "INFINITE QUESTS" where you can just clear out a building again.
>>
bland an ugly
>>
>tfw actually jealous of people playing it just because I want to make cool characters in the character creator
>>
>>316581637
This.
I've spend almost 22 hours turning Sanctuary into a fortress.
The bridge is the only way in, and has two high towers on each side with spot lights and turrets.
>>
Gameplay is fun, best it been yet, but overall way too easy.

The new stat and perk system is even worse than I anticipated. It barely makes sense (especially the special requirements for perks) and you can still pick up and be effective with a minigun without any related perks and 1 strength.

Companions are surprisingly interesting.

Story is completely awful, roleplaying experience is non-existent.

7/10, mods will make it pretty good from a gameplay perspective once good overhauls come out.
>>
>>316581982
you're going to fucking love The Castle.
>>
I like it a lot, worth getting no matter how you do, I bought it and I certainly don't regret it, I've been doing a lot of side quests to avoid that awful story quest writing and I've been entertained for a long time
>>
Do you think it might be discounted during the christmas sales on Steam having only been released in November? Even if it's only 10%, I'm poor as fuck.
>>
>>316582049
What difficulty are you playing on? I have it on hard and I die all the fucking time because ammo is sparse and things almost always hit pretty hard
>>
>>316582240
Maybe but not much.Obviously they'll expect it to sell regardless at Xmas, but maybe Steam is different because at Xmas surely nobody buys anything that isn't on sale.
>>
>>316581249
its like having sex with ex, you know she is bitch and dumped you for money. But you just cant stop having guilty sex with her
>>
>>316582272
I think it depends on playstyle.
I went full charisma and int and have upgraded the pistol perk to 4/5, I die pretty often because I don't use power armor.
It's kind of annoying to constantly feel like I'm playing the game wrong.
Also playing on hard.

Fun.

The settlement building is kind of glitchy to work with but oddly addicting. I came home from work the other day and meant to go out and take care of stuff. Instead I spent about 2 hours building a small dormitory for my settlers, complete with bathroom and kitchen and couches and a stairway to a upstairs where I placed some laser turrets pointed at the opening in the outer wall.

Castle is less of a blank canvas than Sanctuary or some of the other settlements, but it's got winding stone hallways that are all already wired (just supply a generator and it's all already got lighting).
It also has large walls surrounding it, a chem store prebuilt and you learn how to make artillery there.

I think I will enjoy the new call of duty more than this, which is bizarre for me.

Fun fact: adults scale up too, just you don't see it.
I didn't realize you had to remove fusion cores from your armors so an adult settler stole one of my armors.

>>
>>316581249
Best gameplay in an open world Beth game so far.
Fantastic companions, they actually rival New Vegas'.
Very detailed character creation, weapon/armor modding, and settlement building.
Pretty well built and densely packed world, very fun to explore.
Better factions than 3, BoS is vastly improved.
Story is slightly better than 3's but still kinda shit.
Dialogue wheel is shit and the voice acting/background really deter role-playing. Mods fucking when.
Overall, if it gets even half the mods of Skyrim, the game will be pretty damn great in a few months. For now, I'd classify it as "very fun".
>>
>>316582924
Survival only gets difficult when you're fighting massive amounts of enemies because the healing is so slow. Children of Atom can absolutely fuck your day up if you let them surround you and the higher level Feral Ghouls break your arms and legs like they're made of paper. Glowing Mirelurk Hunters can also be nasty if you fight more than a couple.

But yeah, Survival isn't that difficult if you've got a brain about it.
>>
>>316581249

>Enemies with infinite granades, hiding behind cover, continuously throwing that shit at you non stop.

Yeah, it's not very well made.

I can put up with some level scaling problems, with weak as shit enemies surrounding one fucking god like bullet sponge boss, but the infinite grenades take the fucking piss. Huge AoE and stupid damage and thrown at you from any range.

I'm OK with everything else.
>>
>>316582993
>>316583114
wait, so some aspects of hard difficulty are harder than survival?

wtf?
>>
I paid 48 USD, I enjoy the game and find it very fun.
>>
>>316583243
I'm not saying that definitely, I'm saying I remember Skyrim having a weird difficulty system like that.

Also I think it's more to do with how you play, most of the people who are dying on hard aren't using power armor or heavy weapons.
I don't even use rifles.
>>
>arrive in the institute
>"We've been waiting for you to show up! We'd like to talk to you..."
>They wanted me here so instead of inviting me or abducting me, they waited for me to figure out how to build a teleportation device to come here myself...

Great writing.
>>
It looks like a good base for mods. I'll pirate it in a couple years.
>>
It's pretty alright. I'd describe it as a reskinned borderlands with better writing and some Minecraft sprinkled in. Just don't jump in expecting it to play like the older games.
>>
>>316581249

>>
>>316583042
>Best Gamplay in open world Beth game
Agreed. It's still not amazing, but it's far and away the current best of all Bethesda games.

>Fantastic companions; rival New Vegas
I don't know about that. Nick Valentine, Paladin Danse, and Curie are really the only companions I like as much as the New Vegas ones, Piper, Cait, and McCready are all annoying in my opinion, haven't unlocked any others.

>Detailed character creation, weapon/armor modding, and settlement building
Gotta admit I didn't expect to like building settlements as much as I have. The weapon and armor modding is great if a little broken, but I expect mods and DLC to really take advantage of it.

>Pretty well built and densely packed world, very fun to explore
Kinda. It's got some neat areas and isn't as boring as Fallout 3s world, but it's kinda small and not as deep or cohesive as New Vegas.

>Better factions that 3, BoS is vastly improved.
Definitely agreed here. The factions all feel more mature than in 3. I guess they learned their lesson from Obsidian with how to write factions. Still not as good as the Legion, NCR, or House, but definitely a step up from the corny factions in 3.

>Story is slightly better than 3's but still kinda shit
I'd disagree here and say that it's much better than 3's but still kind of shit. Fallout 3 takes the cake for piss poor stories. If the Fallout 4 twist hadn't been ruined for me I'd think it was kind of clever.

>Dialogue wheel is shit and the voice acting/background really deter from role-playing. Mods fucking when.
The voiced protagonist and dialogue wheel don't really bother me because it's pretty much the character I was going to play anyways, but yeah. It really hampers role playing and forces you into a role.

>Overall, if it gets even half the mods of Skyrim, the game will be pretty damn great in a few months. For now, I'd classify it as "very fun"
Yeah. I'd classify it as fun, but I agree. A few mods here and there and some neat DLC will be ace.

Yeah, and turrets help. They're especially nice against Feral Ghouls because they have pinpoint accuracy against those wily fuckers. But unless you build a giant wall around your base and funnel the raiders into a hallway of turrets they won't be able to hold off an invasion themselves.

You've gotta be a charisma man to get the most out of settlement building. In fact, I wouldn't even bother working on settlements until you have 2 ranks in Local Leader and 7+ charisma. But settlements bring in a steady income of caps if you've got shops built. Speaking of shops, they'll typically have some good shit for you, lots of caps to trade with, and a lot of junk material useful for building new shit. Primarily though it's just for fun. If you don't like building settlements you don't have to.

tl;dr Fallout 4 is surprisingly fun despite the almost constant bugs, engine limitations, questionable mechanical design, awful UI, bad framerate, cringy story, and ugly visual design.

>navigating menus with a mouse that has a halfsecond of input lag makes doing basic things like switching inventory items a total chore.
>enemies are either flitting camouflaged critters with no obvious hitbox that flit around and charge straight for you in combat or are hitpoint-sack humans who can take 5 laser beams to the face and constantly plink your health with aim-bot perfection.
>framerate tanks into the 20s sometimes leaving combat entirely in the hands of VATS or else I waste tons of ammo trying to uselessly shoot impossible targets
>constantly full of inventory cause of vacuuming up garbage everywhere fro crafting
>perk sheet is a confusing clusterfuck of pointless animated icons instead of a concise list and so understanding the basic requirements of how to do things is an unnecessary challenge
>basebuilding minigame is utterly ridiculous afterthought. I chose to completely ignore what amounts to a minecraft decorative mode. Even if I wanted to the UI for building the modular pieces is absolutely awful.
>story and characters are trying to be both melodramatic and serious and also wacky and zany and so the whole thing seems amateurish and eye-rollingly corny. Most of the characters are unlikeable and the voiced dialogue is hammy immersion-breaking.

Despite all this, I've actually played it for about 20 hours or so, mostly for the openworld exploring. There's moments of genuine discovery and thrill of combat, especially once you get into a rhythm of exploring, combat, scavenging, return to base, crafting, improvement. I just think about how much better it would be if the game weren't constantly suffering from the above myriad of unintended behavioral bugs, shoddy UI design, poor graphical performance, and not having a cornball story rammed down your throat.

My old crappy PC can't handle FO4. It could handle Witcher 3 on medium. FO4 runs smoothly and then it goes into hissy fit <10 FPS at random which is unplayable when in fight.

Power armour is pretty fucking sweet, it definitely feels like you have more of a prescence with it than in F3/NV - only problem is enemies still have no self-preservation so I had a raider run at me with a fucking poolstick. It's more fun once you get the "fixed survival"-mod for it, changes the game into Ranger mode, you and enemies alike takes more damage. So it is basically just as hard, you will still get one-shotted by certain enemies, but you won't have to spend as much time fighting them.

>Fallout isn't a RPG anymore
>Fallout is a FPS game now

Literally *who* cares?

I'd say good riddance. I don't have time for RPG slogfests like past entries in this franchise (3's start was tiring and New Vega's first hours were downright boring). After a tiring day of work, all I want to do is relax and play something easy and fast for 2 hours or so before going to bed, and that's what Bethesda gave me, a simple, satisfying and RPG bullshit free where I can either play for 10 minutes or 2 hours and still feel satisfied.

All these assholes Metacritic bombing and posting negative reviews are all unproductive manchildren who can't accept that their *game* (as if RPG spreadsheet simulators count as this) isn't the same anymore. Thank Jesus it isn't, and I can't thank Bethesda enough for giving me a chance to enjoy this franchise as well, I even pre-ordered the DLCs and can't wait to play them.

Deal with it guys, times have changed.

protip: if you decide to do the basebuilding, rope off an entire area with metal walls except for one entrance and put 3-4 turrets in front of it.

Raider raids are rare, but having turrets negates any damage they can do. Also any of the minuteman quests are infinite, so be aware that if you do them you're not doing anything other than expanding your list of bases and leveling up. The Gun Nut perk is worth it.

You know what's genuinely impressive?

Bethesda actually managed to create a dialogue system that flows naturally in and out of game play, and actually engages multiple actors in a scene without freezing time. The four direction dialogue is rather lame, but I can't help but feel like there is huge potential there in, for a more in depth branching conversation path system.

because it wasn't blatant.
I know because I was going to make an epic meme image with Todd's face and that quote, but when I actually looked up the quote it's kind of muddled.

>Can you tell us how big the map's going to be?
>"I avoid answering that, and I'll tell you why. If you look at our previous stuff, it's kind of like that. We don't actually measure it like that. Because Skyrim is one size, but the mountains take up a lot of space. That's not really a game place, it's in your way, you have to go around it, so we're not really doing that. In the city, it's very dense, but there is no load - like in Fallout 3, there's a load - for areas of the city, we don't do that. So it's very dense, the buildings are tall, and a lot of them are open, so you can just walk in and around, so... it's big. I wouldn't say, you know, if you played Skyrim, I couldn't tell you it's X bigger, so we're just saying it's about the same size."

Some questions for anons who have the game:

Are there "essential" NPCs that can't be killed and instead just go unconscious or whatever? I know the companions (or at least the dog) is essential, but in general, are essential NPCs a rarity or are they very common? One of my favorite features of New Vegas was the fluidity and that the game allowed you to kill anyone and would adapt to your actions. Really annoys me about the "essential" characters in Bethesda games.

Also wondering how do NPCs react to crimes? Say you hit someone, do just those who witnessed it become hostile? Do they attack or run away? Is there a forgiveness system in place or will those NPCs always be hostile?

Also, how is the quest structure? Is it more layered and open-ended like New Vegas, with a lot of variety and ways to go about the quests?

I can't help that the RPG aspect of it moved away from player stats and into more of an equipment based. Balancing weight vs damage/protection, damage vs recoil, range, etc.

Which could have worked out great if they had actually scaled back carry weight appreciably, but since you can still lug around an entire junkyard on your back, it's just kind of an upgrade system instead of any kind of balancing act.
>>
>>316588474
>Are there "essential" NPCs

NPCs don't react to gunfire near them but will just turn hostile if you hit one in the same "faction" as it.

in NV you can replay the game 20 times and find npcs on the SAME FUCKING PLACE every time, there is only a few enemies that actually roam around and even they have tiny patrol areas, so if you play the game enough times you could as well play blindfolded.

In 3 there are a few more "randomness" into it (not much, but atleast every now and then something weird or crazy is going to happen making exploring actually fun)
