Technically the REmake is a proper REMAKE, not just a remaster. And as one, it's the best one out there.
Luckily, the HD Remaster version is pretty good all around. Could've lived without the new Very Easy mode and casual-control scheme, but those don't really matter.

yeah, the Remaster ain't perfect, but considering the limits the devs had to work with, it is pretty good job none the less. Definitely far more pleasing to look at on HD screen than emulated version upscaled, since the 360p backgrounds get smudged up too easily.
The best way to play the HD Remaster, IMO, is to run it at 720p, FXAA3 enabled.

1, REmake and Zero are the only games in the series where you HAVE to do little awkward circles and run past all the enemies because they are bullet sponges. 2 and 3 did it way better. 4, 5, and 6 are great action games.
